Decanted 1hr, small amount of sediment. Lightly perfumed nose. Purple to the rim. Young (I know, shocking revelation). Approaching full bodied without being at all heavy, smothered tannins. Nothing much in the way of complexity or depth, but excellent refreshment value with food. May have the stuffing to improve with a little more time in the bottle.

Decanted 1hr. With Boeuf Bourgogne. Exactly what a cru bourgeois should be. No pretensions to greatness but excellent refreshment with food. Simple flavour profile, good typicity, a tannic spine and absolutely no alcoholic heat. Very enjoyable.

Obviously far too young but still excellent. Deep fruit & strong tannic structure still to fully integrate. Very promising & enjoyable even in this adolescent stage.

Cellared for 6 years. Drank on the boat anchored off the Isle of Wight. Deliciously mellow and nutty, benefitting from a little cellar age. Strong bubbles and balanced acidity. VGV.

Petit Verdot heavy blend (30%), and it dominates the palate at the moment. Lacking depth for a 2017, but nice juicy acidity. Not really for me.

P&P with chilli prawn linguine. Surprisingly round & weighty but lacking acidity, so comes across as a little insipid and lacking refreshment. Not my style.

Purchased from Heathrow T5 duty free, then P&P. Painfully dry with sour wood dominating the taste. There may be nice fruit behind the wood but impossible to know. Far far and away the worst Rioja I have ever had.

P&P with Roast Chicken dinner. Fabulous rich Cabernet nose, and more of the same on the palate. Certainly New World, but plenty of tannic structure & fresh acidic lift to balance the rich body. Loved it.

VTS fill. Cork coloured the along its whole length, but extracted in one piece. Little sediment. Wide tawny margin on decanting with fabulous, classic Pauillac scents. First sip after decanting, sweet & light, tannins completely subsumed, lovely fresh acidity. Medium length, but that freshness persists wonderfully across the palate. Very classy, but this bottle is in the 'Drink Up' phase of it's life... 93 points.
...Or so I thought.
Two hours in the decanter and everything has been turned up to 11. The previously inconspicuous tannins have firmed up beautifully, complementing the fresh acidity and fabulously intense flavours across the whole palate. Ethereal weightlessness. Tiny sips are enough to fill the senses.
Possibly the most beautiful wine I have ever had. 97 points

Decanted 1 hour, with Comte cheese. As reported in recent notes this wine has really blossomed. Classic Bordeaux notes of damp earth and blackcurrants on the nose. Fully integrated tannins, a little freshening acidity and no noticable oak. No overblown 2003ness. Extremely enjoyable.

Nice cherry nose on opening, then into the decanter for 3 hours. Nose still there with the first glass, a little spice & perfume. Classic palate, terrific tannic spine coupled with plenty of cherry and raspberry fruit. Acidity in balance. Really enjoyed this classic barolo, and absolutely no rush to drink - with all that supporting fruit it will just mellow out for another decade or more.

Screwcap, p&p on a hot evening in London, with crudites. Wow - what a beautiful wine. Fresh, slightly floral nose, no gasoline. Pure and elegant in the mouth, light acidic freshness & wonderful fruit. Light weight, as expected and hoped for in a kabinett. This is all about its purity, no bitterness, no excessive sweetness, just an angel crying on your tongue. Wonderful.

Costco purchase. Decanted 2 hours, then consumed over 4 hours. Young (obviously) and still purple to the rim. Dense & opaque. Light nose, floral with some swirling. Soft tannins well covered with fruit, oak just a suggestion in the background. Primary fruit very pleasant, moderate finish. Medium to full bodied (for a bordeaux), and 14% abv is disappointingly high for a 2016. At £20, a pretty good QPR. Will certainly improve in the cellar.

Purchased on release. With grilled lamb & chicken, Turkish style. 1 hour decant. Moderate sediment. Generous nose, classic Graves notes. Wonderfully subtle in the mouth, secondary flavours and a weightlessness one wouldn't associate with 2003 Bordeaux. A wine to sip and contemplate. 13% abv very welcome indeed, both at the time and the next morning. Delicious.

P&P. With pasta bolognaise. Have had these in the cellar for around 8 years, they were overly sweet & ripe in their youth. Age has been very kind indeed, though. Dirty dirty dirty on the nose on opening, even more so with a swirl around the glass. Barnyard & sweaty socks turned up to 11.. This transfigured to beautiful sour cherry complexity in the mouth, though - fresh & round, correct acidity & gentle tannin, in the very best burgundian tradition. I'm amazed and underscoring this wine, if anything. Sometimes dirty is good.

With almonds & various cheeses night one, Steak & chip-shop chips night two.
Night one.... Poured one glass & ploughed through it with masochistic determination. Almost no nose and the very definition of 'tannic' in the mouth. Just a wall of dry tannin with something behind it, that no amount of swirling would penetrate. Cork replaced, in the fridge for 12hrs, then removed at midday the next day to come up to temperature.
Night two.... Enter stage left, miraculously transformed wine. Enticing sweet cherry & herb nose on pouring. Palate unrecognizable from yesterday. Full & sweet, cherries & red fruits all over the place but with burgundian lightness of touch as it glides over the taste buds. Tannins are present & correct, but part of the balanced whole. Gorgeous.

With roast chicken et al, P&P, consumed over 2 hours. Wow. Mildly bready nose & palate upon opening, but developing intensity with air & as the temperature increased over the two hours the bottle survived. Last glass at nearly room temperature was wonderfully round, full of bakery elements and fresh acidity. Sadly this wasn't a magnum!

Opened 24hrs previously. With a roaring fire on a cold night. Fairly restrained nose, but massive black palate - every black fruit you can shake a stick at plus the expected spice & cigar box. Only sweet when you think about it. Still very young & primary, but already magnificent. No spririty or alcoholic notes whatsoever. My best wine of the year so far.

P&P from magnum on the first autumnal evening of the year, with roast chicken & all the trimmings. Very pale colour, translucent. Next to no nose, but lovely aged mellifluous palate, warming & soothing in true good-for-the-soul Burgundy fashion. Mushrooms & angel's tears. No show stopper but exactly what I had hoped for.

With cold cuts of roast pork. Audouzed 2hrs. Purchased in France in 2005, this has been lurking in my cellar for quite some time now. Very Pommard initially, firm structure to the fore, fruit in a distant second place. Over the course of the evening, while the wine was never less than 'tannic', it came much more into balance - the last glass being best & beautiful. A Burgundy for Barolo lovers.

With roast pork. Audouzed 1hr then poured through aerating device. Lovely nose with a little swirling, those typical loamy, mushroomy notes that elicit an involuntary 'Ummmm'. Same on the palate - still fairly primary fruit, plodding slowly towards maturity. Moderate acid, just enough to control the fruit, which completely smothers the tannin until 2 or 3 hours into the bottle. When Burgundy's good it's oh so good. Punching way above its modest village classification.

Audouzed 3hrs, one glass poured, remainder refrigerated 24hrs before drinking the next night. With The-Whole-9-Yards-Chicken-Dinner. Wow - first glass was nice, but +24hrsput this wine in a great place. Deep and masculine, chocolate notes, baskets of dark fruits. No shortcomings in the tannin department either, and not even the slightest hint of flab. What a fabulous bottle of wine.

Big & bold in true Aussie style, but no overt oak to spoil the party and a really lovely acidic spine to keep everything fresh & moorish. P&P in YYZ. Massive perfumed Cabernet Franc nose, properly eyebrow raising, with an immediate return for a second hit. Juicy and intense in the mouth, big cassis fruit, but not even a hint of jaminess. Perfectly pitched acidity and a gently grainy, tannic, mouth-watering tail. Pauillac meets Loire, with added sunshine. Wonderful.
