Dark red. No bricking. There's a coolness to the age-induced ripeness. Lots of ripe red fruit; clean acid; moderate, chalky tannins and, possibly, some oak. Silky, medium body without heaviness. Not lacking complexity, nor elegance. Finely boned. Reasonable depth of flavour. Clean, fresh, reasonably long finish. Remarkably not shut down, yet it's best yet to come as it develops tertiary flavours. Enjoyable if still young. Wait if you can. 92++

Tasted blind Vs 2015 and 2014. The 2016 was head and shoulders above the others which were dominated by secondary flavours (spice, cedar, menthol, etc.) This wine had a depth of flavour and velvet texture showcasing the reserve wine that was declassified and blended here. I gather that the winery regrets this move, but what's done is done and this wine benefits greatly. Tastes much better than its lowly labels would suggests. I'm not surprised in the least that it won the Jimmy Watson trophy last year. A great wine.

Terrible for what it is supposed to be. Tastes like cheap Nero d'Avola from the South. Nothing like nebbiolo should be. Thick, confected, oaky/meaty. It really seems like they have put the wrong label on the bottle. Being Italian, you never know!

Take one of the most traditionally made Medoc wines from superb terroir generally regarded as being able to produce wines of the equal of many Classified Growths in the coolest part, most northerly part, namely 'Médoc', in a warm year and what do you get? One of the wines of the vintage. The best Sociando Mallet at the moment. Cool palate, yet full bodied and plush textured with flavours of dark berries, pencil lead, cedar oak. No heat whatsoever. No jamminess at all. Tasted blind, you'd never pick this as a 2003. Magnificent. 5-10 years in the tank at least. Wow!

In a word, wow! Other tasting notes below say it all. A truly amazing wine. Giuseppe, the winemaker, totally proud of this wine. One of the best he's made.

Good colour. Medium body. Surprisingly rich. Plenty of gentle, balsamic acidity adds balance and extends onto, and freshens, the finish.

What this wine lacks in body (ie. it's definitely not 1er Cru-like), it makes up in flavour, balance, (reasonable) length and sheer drinking pleasure.

Good, pale colour. Fresh. Stone fruit, citrus and subtle creaminess (from lees? or oak?) Plenty of gentle structure. Will surely make it to the start of the next decade, maybe more.

In a good place. Needs to be serve on the cool side and given time to open up to reveal it's depth and keep it balanced. It's a bit unbalanced lacking depth and bite when slightly warm. Has earthy, truffley and mushroom element that vanishes quickly. Any greenness (?) of the vintage is hidden by both primary (tangerine and lemon) fruit and secondary/tertiary flavours of butter, butterscotch and roasted nuts.

Second night
Subdued nose when served cool. Deep, mellow honey flavour delights the palate extending onto the expansive finish also featuring green melon, cashew, caramel and preserved lemon. Clean, crisp yet flavoursome. Classic moderately oaked and aged chardonnay as opposed to the classically younger, unoaked AC Chablis from 2014 opened at the same time. Paired well with creamy, cheesy, slightly spicy chicken!

(Bottle was still fresh over next 2 nights.)
