Probably would have been better with roasted meat. Huge nose on opening, with stewed fruit, wet leather. Sharp acid on palate, but dissipates to fading fruit. Barely any tannin left. Good, but running out of room.

Nice fruit, balanced with plenty of acidity. A nice bottle of wine.

Drank this with G's miso black cod. A great pairing, the richness of the wine pairing well with the miso sauce. A great with this food. I look forward to the other bottle.

Drank this at a Briaa, chicken and steak kebabs. Breat fruit nose, with soft fruit and just a touch of tannin. A really nice bottle of wine.

Oxidized. Other bottle is doomed, I am afraid. Cork came out way too easily.

Nice, but a little old. Probably more of a 7 year wine.

Drank this with standing rib roast, Yorkshire pudding, brussels Sprouts, etc.

Cork was a bright purple. Nose was prune-y on opening, smelled classic Bordeaux after a minute. Didn't taste the wine for itself, but pairing was fantastic. Thank you Dr. Hamlin!

With Thanksgiving leftovers. Very soft palate, fantastic berry nose, almost cloudy, dark purple color. These guys are geniuses!

Maybe not the perfect pairing for Thanksgiving, but it was a fantastic wine, as usual.

Drank this with roast chicken, simple vinaigrette salad and noodles with chicken drippings. Fantastic pairing, with the bubbles cutting through the fat, allowing the finer points of the wine to be tasted with the chicken.

Drank this with a bison burger with Pimento cheese. Nice nose of dark berries, leathery(?), cigar. High tannins with a lot of fruit, alcohol on the back end. 3 more years?

Salmon was bad. Once I stopped eating it, the wine was nice. Still tons of fruit, structure starting to develop

Drank this with hamburgers. Deep dark purple (throwing sediment left and right by the way). Nice nose, with tons of dark cherry/red berries, maybe some leather or wood. Went well with my colorado blue burger. Genny liked this better than I, but it was good. Score is an average of 88 and 93 (rounded up).

Drank this for Father's Day with Miso Chilean Sea Bass. Lovely golden color, deep straw and sunlight. Nose of pineapple and honey, with a hint of honeysuckle. Nice mouth feel, full bodied but not viscous. A pretty good pairing with the miso.

Bright color, a little thin on the edges. Rich nose, with pineapple/golden delicious notes, and maybe a touch of raisins (maderized?). Buttery flavor, but slightly metallic on the back side. No score, as this bottle may have been bad. Or the wine is over the hill.

I admit it; I committed infanticide on this bottle. Fantastic nose, with classic Cote du Beaune elements of barnyard, fruit, etc. A little dumb on the palate, though. Opened up over an hour of drinking, but it was way too early. 3 years before I try it again, I promise.

lighter purple then I remember (aging, maybe?), barnyard-y nose with leather and dark fruits, fruity on the front, acid on the back, heaven in between.

Drank this with TK's split pea soup (homemade); a pretty good pairing, but not perfect (too much salt).

Drank from Magnum. Toasty, yeasty nose, elements of Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. Fruit still very fresh, but a nuttiness you would expect from a 21 year-old wine. Paired exceptionally well with country ham, cheese grits, egg dish, berries and biscuits. Happy Easter indeed!

Deep purple, strong fruity (slight fizz?) nose, notes of leather, earth, old wood, delicious on the palate, with acid, fruit in great balance; maybe a little alcohol, but palate is pretty smooth. This wine is ready!

Look, I like this wine, particularly with food, but the nose was a little quiet. GripNSip has a point, but it was pretty good with the artichoke and pancetta pasta.

Still fantastic; might be getting better. Deep purple, slightly clear on edges. Nose of wonderful wet earth, black cherry, light leather. Alcohol is there, but it is not overwhelming. Well integrated on palate. Another couple of years, maybe.

Drank this with southwest roast chicken thigh, toasty skin, sourdough and butter. Great pairing, especially with spices.

A fantastic pairing. I did not get a chance to taste the wine on a stand-alone basis, but drank this with vanilla shrimp and couscous with saffron. The pairing was just spectacular, with the wine's vanilla and pineapple pairing almost perfectly with the dish.

Drank this with braised lambshanks with olives and preserved lemons. A surprisingly good pairing (inspired Mr. Asimov's wonderful article a couple of months ago), it is the first time I have tried Madeira with savory. Sadly it was not quite as popular with my dining partners.

Nice burgundy color, clear, still lots of purple (though touches of ruby/orange starting to filter through). Classic Vosne Romanee nose, touch of bark/barnyard, but lots of strong fruit as well (cherry, cassis). Well balanced on the palate, with a touch of tannin still evident. Paired fantastically with roast chicken, fresh bread, and some nice camembert.

had this with vanilla/saffron couscous with shrimp. When first opened, a little oaky (I mourn the passing of the first Flowers chardonnays I first had, light, floral, fruity; so sad). Once the food was served, the oak seemed to have burned off. Paired wonderfully with the meal. The last bottle I could find.

A great example of a food wine. Opened it about two hours before dinner, and couldn't resist a taste. Very grapey is the best way to describe it. Not necessarily sweet, but it was in there. Let it sit for a couple of hours, and then had it with some homemade pizza, and it seemed to suddenly seemed to boil down to a more essential wine, with fruit, acid, tannin, etc. Really nice with the pizza.

A tremendous pairing with the leftover roast chicken and roasted potatoes (along with baguette with butter). Deep gold color, fantastic nose of pineapple, wonderful balance with nice acid on the back end (should have had some cheese!), but mounds of fruit. WooHoo!

soft purple color, slightly lighter on the edge, but depth of color. notes of cherry, maybe some herbs on the nose. Still tannic, but nice palate, excellent balance. Drank this with roast chicken (lots of butter on the skin), poached asparagus and roasted potato cubes. Really a fantastic pairing.

Towards the end of it's string. Still deep gold color, making it easier to see a slightly watery edge. Empty nose, with a little lemon, honey, maybe oxidation? Good pairing with some sliced iberico ham, manchego cheese, toasted baguette slices.

Drank this with homemade chicken noodle soup and biscuits.

Deep purple, with a nose of dark cherries, a touch of alcohol, oak? Fantastic with the soup. Very fruit forward, almost no alcohol, a touch of tannin, sugar in balance (but present). Fantastic example of well made new world Pinot.

Starting to hit its later stage of life (much like the drinker!). Drank this with roast chicken, manchego, baguette.

Nice color, a little thin on the edges, not brown so much as orange-ish on the edges. Still a nice fruit nose, with a touch of dirt, but not as strong as the last (that I recall). Nice on the palate, but again, not strong or overwhelming. If I didn't know better (a 7 year old Premier Cru Cotes du Beaune) I would say this is entering a dumb faze. Not possible, right? Oh what a difference a year makes (see 11/28/08 review).

Dark, staining purple color. Heady nose of dark berries, maybe some leather, eucalyptus? Lots of fruit/sugar on the front of the palate; after swirling in my mouth for a few seconds, tannin came out. This a probably several years too young, but it has the legs to carry it for a long time.

Drank this with grilled rib eye, grilled asparagus and a light salad.

Unfortunately drank this just after a 2006 Bastianich Tocai Plus. This comes off as a little tinny, without quite the richness of the Plus (not a fair comparison, but still). I hear the 2008 will be awesome, and I can't wait.

Gave this as a gift for a dinner party. Host opened after dinner was over. Deep purple (teeth staining); fruity nose of blackberries, black currants, maybe some smoke; fruity up front and very smooth on the finish. A wonderful wine. Still plenty of room to age.
