What a great wine. Bordeaux in its truest form. Drunk from a magnum bottle, therefore perhaps a little bonus.

Rather disappointing. It has peaked some years ago. Drink very soon. Probably a bad bottle?

One of my favorite bordeaux wines not coming from Bordeaux. Intense and very round after about 1 hour. Perfect to drink now.

Rather unspectacular. Usually Alion comes with more volume and richness. Probably going homeward.

Rather disappointing. A weaker showing of my favorite champagne brand. Not the first bottle of DP04 that was disappointing. Considering the age (not old yet!) the wine comes with too many oxidative notes. A problem with my delivery years ago? Three more bottles from the same delivery, after that six from a different delivery. Let’s hope those will be better.

Took some time till it really started. But after 2 hours it was a great tuscan bdx blend. Rather young, but therefore it was a perfect match to ossobucco.

Great nose, very rich. After that, this richness fills your mouth with loads of sensations. Rather dark, but very precise. It lasts and lasts.
Has reached its prime drinking window. An appropriate compensation for a rather weak meeting with a DP 2002 I had some weeks ago.

Very difficult to judge right now. In the beginning rather weak and thin. Well, no surprise, it’s a weak vintage. A few hours later I tried again, now it was somehow better, but still no wow. After all, I still remain unsure, what to think about bdx 2013. I know that it was one of the seldom weak bdx vintages, but on the other hand, other so called weak bdx vintages like 2007 brought lots of pleasure.

Will 2013 follow the path of 2007 (decent wine for a bargain) or will it be more like 1997 (only a very very few decent bdx)? Time will tell.

After 2 hours of decanting, it was ok. I was hoping, that it is too young. Therefore left half the bottle in the fridge over night to try one day later. Unfortunately it only became worse the day after. I think there is less in there as supposed.

My last bottle was eight years ago. Back then I wrote, that it still needs more time. Now with an age of 23 years I am not so sure anymore. Probably it still needs more time. But probably it’s just all there is and the Leo 2000 might be a weaker showing of the great 2000 vintage. Only time will tell.

Excellent wine.

Very round and smooth on the one side, deep and ample on the other side. Unfortunately this kind of wine has become very expensive. Bought it for around 130 bucks back then, new vintages are at about triple the price. Well, at least there are dozens of great tuscan wines that don’t have the same pedigree, but almost the same quality at half the actual price of a Solaia.

A chance find in my cellar. I stumbled over it while making room in my cellar for the latest BDX arrivage. Never added this wine to my cellar and therefore it was a surprise.
Usually I don’t like this kind of wine, but I have to admit that this is really very well made and the proceeding age probably has softened its heavy character a little bit. Still very full with a dominant alcoholic sweetness and a wagon load of fruitiness. But it succeeds in managing all this to a sort of roundness that is typical of great wine.
One or two bottles of such heavy and alcohol-loaded wines is enough for me per year, but this one is a very worthy representative.

Excellent. Right now it is far better than the 2002. Fresh, a lot of pressure, very precise. I wish I could swap the quantity of 2002 DP in my cellar with DP 2003. Unfortunately I only bought 12 bottles back then (because some critics were sceptical), now only left a few.

To be honest:I expected more. This potion made a somewhat watered-down impression. This was a surprise, as this bottle had been in the same automatically regulated cellar since arrivage. Let's hope for more luck with the next one. Considering the vintage, the chateau and the ratings, there should be much more fun in these.

What a positive surprise. Considering the negative image of the 1997 BDX, I hope and expect the best 2013 BDX to prove the same in 20 or so years: perfect terroir and skills are able to produce great wine also in aweful years.

Great wine for very fair price. One of these many great examples, that excellent Bordeaux doesn’t have to be expensive. There’s enormous value in Bordeaux left and right of the famous lables.

This wine is in the second half of it’s prime drinking window. To be enjoyed probably within the next 5-6 years.

I really was curios about this one, as I only had fully ripe PR Winston two or three times so far. When drinking premium champagne, it almost always is DP or Ruinart. So I wasn’t quite sure, what to expect here.

It started very cidre like, probably an artisanal cidre or so. But when opening an almost 25y old champagne, you know that the gustatory footprint can change dramatically within 20-30 minutes. Well, it wasn’t that dramatically in the end. It improved quite a bit and was rather lively with a smooth and enjoyable perlage. The cidre core gained brioche and nut elements. Nonetheless I wished for more complexity, or at least a less dominant cidre core.

Nice experience, but no need to restock (particularly since prices have doubled since release).

Part of a pre easter dinner (after a cristal 07 and before a baron 03). Usually you buy this wine to impress. It’s always a good piece of table small talk to tell that story of „this is the white wine of Yquem …“. Besides that it’s a decent white bdx, not more not less. You can buy white bdx of the same quality for 15% of the price, but you won’t have the nice story to tell. So in the end, you buy the label here. That’s why i stopped buying Ygrec with the 2010 vintage.

The last bottle 7 years ago was phenomenal. Now, it was not on the same level as back then. Still a great wine, it seems that some of the 2003 bdx face problems in their long time aging process. In typical vintages, you can forecast what a wine will taste in 5 years or so. atypical vintages as 2003 remain a black box. Judging by this bottle, the Baron 2003 has already passed its phase of perfection. Nonetheless fun to drink. Although the next day it had to confess, that it’s in decline.

Rather disappointing. Surprisingly, it’s more or less one dimensional. I never have been a big Cristal lover, but this one was my worst Cristal so far. As there remain quite some more bottles down in the cellar, I really hope, time will do this one a favor. I stay optimistic and will try the next one in 3-4 years.

Sometimes I really don't understand wine critics. This one is around 87 to 88 points in many pro reviews.

But when I taste this one, I see an excellent wine with great potential for the next 20 years. I wouldn't be surprised to see this one melting in its 1982 version in some years.

If you like real Bordeaux and also like to place some safe bet, then buy some bottles of this one. 87 points? No way!
