deep and dark, this took a little while (2 hrs) to truly open up and show what was inside after PnP. Tons of dark berry fruit underpins dark chocolate, smoke, violets, and black olives. This has more minerality than I often expect from SQN. Lots of tannins here, but covered up in the smooth packaging right now. This should age nicely, but a pleasure to drink now too.

Checking in with the offering of the 2018s live. Wow, this is great. Nose shows underbrush, herbs, earth, and perfumed red fruit sitting isn’t he background. On the palate, the fruit is brighter and holds up — the combination of the nose and palate, both good by themselves, makes each one shine a little bit brighter. Well balanced, the finish lingers nicely. Drank well by itself, but also even a touch better with food (sous vide chicken breast). Should continue to develop nicely.

Dried pineapple, still some fresh tropical fruit, spice (allspice, white pepper). Temperature important here — too cold and it doesn’t show enough, too warm and the alcohol is prominent). Long finish

Can see a lot of arguments here — as a QbA it overperforms and shows the class of Muller. As a QPR, so many better rieslings for the price. Still, this gives a glimpse into the genius of Muller.

this was a powerful champagne, but showed a lot of elegance and complexity from the extra time on the lees. long finish. compelling among the tete de cuvees at this price.

Delicious. Quince, marmalade, ginger, lime. Still has a long life ahead. Finish just goes and goes. One to seek out.

What better wine to open for Christmas? This continues to shine, still so youthful. Some black olive notes showing on nose. Great peppery profile with dark fruit notes — blackberry, black cherry. The herbal character on this adds interest. So intense, it is unreal this is almost 15 years old now. My last bottle, but hope not my last chance to taste this spectacular wine.

Needs time -- so youthful, and yet so delicious. black fruit underpins infectious herbal aromas of eucalyptus. palate shows the same black berry fruit, cocoa, and tons of Rutherford dust. Tannic grip very present, but tannins that will soften with time. long finish. Spectacular.

Decanted 2.5 hours. Bright red fruit profile with strawberry and raspberry tones hitting first. As the nose develops, some really nice spice notes start to emerge, wood spice and herbal notes. Round mouthfeel. Palate is balanced, but finish shows the weight, including the alcohol.

My first time with the Five Shooter Grenache, it delivered. Layered black fruit, with a surprising minerality that gave this a nice freshness. Dark flowers on top of blackberry, black plum, and slate. Paired with sous vide Flannery NY Strip. Finish is long but the fruit fades a touch more than I would expect from SQN. Excellent.

I said goddamn! This was great. Deep dark fruit and coffee on nose and palate, but with a great sage and spice note. Day 2 the nose is intoxicating — there are some great herbal notes although the alcohol comes through a bit on the nose. Surprising minerality on this. Palate is ripe as one would expect, but there’s enough acid here to balance. Shines on the long finish — black fruit and dried herbs battle back and forth. This has a long life ahead and will get even more interesting over time.

Thick and oily on palate, this shows nice tropical notes, guava, nectarine, honey. There’s a white pepper note on the med(+) finish that I quite liked. Could use more acid to balance out the weight on this. Still very youthful, but unclear where it will go.

Decanted 6 hours, then drank over next 4. Beautiful layers of dark fruit, peppery spice, dark chocolate, and dried herbs. Classsic SQN texture. Long finish does have a bit of heat.

Holding up pretty well for a 12yo QbA, this has developed some nice honeycomb and quince notes, in addition to still some fresh citrus and stoniness. Nice balance, although weak intensity holds this back (and why it is classified where it is)

red fruit notes most prominent, with clove spice and perfumed notes. a bit thin at the outset, this picks up weight in the midpalate, but fades again heading into the finish. the finish has some bright red fruit that dominates (in an unpleasant way) initially, before the spice and floral notes kick in.

opened and let sit 6 hrs. nose shows dark blue and black fruit, eucalyptus, and some great herbal aromatics. fruit slips to the background on the attack, where this is in a bit of a dumb phase. the midpalate and finish continue to deliver, with black pepper, clove, eucalyptus, blackberry, plum, and blueberry. tannic structure is really great. once the attack comes out of this dumb phase, this is really shaping up to be great -- sadly, this was my last bottle!

Well past its prime, this was oxidized. Could still sense some depth, and nice acidity there, but I would expect an "Eiswein" to go further... alas, this is "Ice Wine". Still have a few more, so hopefully the others will be in better shape.
