My first time with the Five Shooter Grenache, it delivered. Layered black fruit, with a surprising minerality that gave this a nice freshness. Dark flowers on top of blackberry, black plum, and slate. Paired with sous vide Flannery NY Strip. Finish is long but the fruit fades a touch more than I would expect from SQN. Excellent.

I said goddamn! This was great. Deep dark fruit and coffee on nose and palate, but with a great sage and spice note. Day 2 the nose is intoxicating — there are some great herbal notes although the alcohol comes through a bit on the nose. Surprising minerality on this. Palate is ripe as one would expect, but there’s enough acid here to balance. Shines on the long finish — black fruit and dried herbs battle back and forth. This has a long life ahead and will get even more interesting over time.

Thick and oily on palate, this shows nice tropical notes, guava, nectarine, honey. There’s a white pepper note on the med(+) finish that I quite liked. Could use more acid to balance out the weight on this. Still very youthful, but unclear where it will go.

Decanted 6 hours, then drank over next 4. Beautiful layers of dark fruit, peppery spice, dark chocolate, and dried herbs. Classsic SQN texture. Long finish does have a bit of heat.

Holding up pretty well for a 12yo QbA, this has developed some nice honeycomb and quince notes, in addition to still some fresh citrus and stoniness. Nice balance, although weak intensity holds this back (and why it is classified where it is)

drank over 3 days. really great bloody iron notes. some black cherry, but this is mostly savory and mineral. day 3 showed more black olive notes. acidic backbone keeps this drinking very fresh. soft tannins lead into a generous finish.

Drinks towards the sweet side of Spatlese. Ripe peach, yellow apple, and bright lime. Nice orange blossom and slate notes. Enough acid to stay fresh. Finish could go longer.

Similar to last note. More apricot apparent on this night. Finished with a touch of warmth (surprising for 13.7 abv)

red fruit notes most prominent, with clove spice and perfumed notes. a bit thin at the outset, this picks up weight in the midpalate, but fades again heading into the finish. the finish has some bright red fruit that dominates (in an unpleasant way) initially, before the spice and floral notes kick in.

opened and let sit 6 hrs. nose shows dark blue and black fruit, eucalyptus, and some great herbal aromatics. fruit slips to the background on the attack, where this is in a bit of a dumb phase. the midpalate and finish continue to deliver, with black pepper, clove, eucalyptus, blackberry, plum, and blueberry. tannic structure is really great. once the attack comes out of this dumb phase, this is really shaping up to be great -- sadly, this was my last bottle!

Well past its prime, this was oxidized. Could still sense some depth, and nice acidity there, but I would expect an "Eiswein" to go further... alas, this is "Ice Wine". Still have a few more, so hopefully the others will be in better shape.

This is still really young -- basically drank it right off the UPS truck! Citrus notes dominate, but this has nice depth of flavor. Some floral notes. Sage. finishes surprisingly long. Went well with sushi.

Drinking through these way too quickly, but at least staying away from my '15s! The bruised apple comes through stronger in this. Intense acidity. Nice smoky flint came through as it warmed up on day two.

Tasted at large walkaround tasting. Rounder fruit than some of the other Non-Dosé. Some interesting spice notes (clove?) -- it's a positive though. Bigger across the board, but somewhat lacking in complexity other than the spice note.

Better than the last bottle, but still a bit tired. marmalade, candied lime peel, white flowers, ginger. Really dark color. Very sweet. Lots of acid, but still could use a little more. Finish goes on for a while with great citrus notes. A good, but not great, Eiswein.

This has an intoxicating nose — the best description is that it smells like Christmas. Lovely pine and red fruit notes. Incense. Floral notes. Fruit still dominant on palate, but surprising tannins here that give it great depth, and some of the beauty of the nose carries through (forest floor and incense). Still quite young, this has some time ahead.

PnP but then saved most for night 2. Intense dark fruit with brambleberry, blackberry, and black cherry. Enough acid to stay fresh, but this is a massive wine. Long finish is really great and adds a nice peppery bacon note. Night 2 still very youthful - had not budged much.
