91(+?)pts. I really don't consider this wine to be ready at this point - hold for 3-5 years, especially if you don't like a lot of oak influence while drinking Chardonnay. Complete notes on Instagram at brl_winelover

7/19/21, 8:44 PM - Tks for your comment. I simply will not buy this Chardonnay anymore - it is simply not what I'm looking for. I haven't seen Tanzer's notes on this bottling, but he is usually very reliable.

The best GG riesling 2015 I've had so far. Powerful, full-bodied, mineral and of good acidity. long ending. Perfect matching with cheese risotto. ready to drink, but with good guard potential. + 95pts

I didn't think this would still drink so young, but it did. It still needs a couple of years to mature properly, but probably much more. Even after decanting for 4+ hours its tannins were a bit harsh. So, if you must open one now, be prepared to give it lots and lots of air.

2004 is considered to be a structured vintage, and the same can be said about Barolo from Monforte. So it was no surprise to see that this wine has a great structure and beautiful intensity, but not a lot of complexity. It is definitely not floral, and its notes show more dark than red fruit - I found blackberry, black cherries and a bit of blackcurrant, with almost no tertiary flavors. It can definitely still improve, but I don't think it will ever achieve greatness. Lacks elegance. 93pts tops for now.

2/6/18, 3:38 PM - I have never had a vintage from Aldo Conterno I have really liked. Although Conterno is on record saying his wines should be consumed from 10 to 15 years after the vintage, everything I drank in this range (or younger) seemed not to be ready. So i can't really say.

I have in my cellar other Romirasco wines from 2004, 2008 and 2010, and also a Granbussia 2006. But I'm not drinking them until they reach at least 15 years.

A great friend has just arrived after two years travelling, and what better way to celebrate than with a great GG Riesling? However, this Kirchenstück is still a baby - I'd rather have waited for some 3-5 more years, since clearly there is room for improvement.

One can notice that the aromas on the nose in particular are undeveloped - only faint notes of pineapple, white plum and vanilla are discernible. Due to the use of barrique, one can also sense some vanilla on the palate, but here it is more than buffered by a cornucopia of tropical fruits, which add great complexity to this bottle. It also boasts excellent persistence and a creamy and precise aftertaste.

92pts on the nose, 95pts on the palate - and with a good chance of improvement, which my final grade reflects.

Mineralidade é a palavra aqui.

Do not open this bottle now. The wine is still evolving and I imagine that between 3 to 5 years will be perfect for consumption. Minerality is the word here. The wine is very mineral and comes to bother in this aspect. There is also the presence mainly in the nose of white fruit (mainly pineapple). I had great hopes for this Chardonnay, since it is one of the benchmarks for this varietal in Australia, and definitely was not disappointed! It is ready to be drunk now with very little decanting, but still has a long life ahead of it if one wants to cellar it.

Immediately after opening the bottle, one could already sense its expressive notes of lychee, lime, avocado and green apple on the nose. But on the palate it was even better, with its 14% structure well hidden by its nice structure, delivering notes of pineapple, green apple, a bit of vanilla and lime. It also boasts a long finish, which fills your mouth for 30+seconds.

In short, if you enjoy colder-weather Chardonnay, this one's for you - it's not a creamy, oak-dominated beast, being instead very refreshing and balanced. A great QPR - it's a wine worth seeking out. 94+ pts.

This was bought soon after I visited S-F in Bockenau. I was really impressed with their 2014 Felseneck during my tasting there, but it was not available for sale (GGs only sell after September 1), so I got a 2013 instead.

And I have no doubt that this one is the better of the two, and much better than the S-F 2011 Felseneck I had a few years ago. Although I had in mind that I was going to give it some air, it really didn't need it, so I consumed it in short order.

And the name of the game here is precision. This is a swiss watch. Lots and lots of minerality both on the nose and on the palate, and not a lot of fruit, as I expected from this house. But the fruit available was as tasty as you'd find in a Riesling - mainly green apple, but other tropical fruits like passion added good complexity. It's not that powerful - it's more like intense and refreshing, with an amazing persistence at the end.

M_Arcon and Ebrim had already described this bottle as well as one can do, and I do agree that this wine is brilliant. Gault&Millau rated it a 95-point wine, and I fully concur! A beauty.
  • br_winelover commented:

10/3/17, 6:08 PM - I agree there is very little difference between the '13 and the '14 Felseneck, but still the former seems to be a bit more precise and longer. Of course both are too young, and a definite judgment will have to wait at least ten years. But I'd drink any of these two anywhere and anytime - they are both delicious already.

Infanticide. I usually drinking my Barolo 15 years at least after the vintage, but 2007 was a hot year and I wanted to pay a little tribute to the great Domenico Clerico, who died a few weeks ago.

This is clearly a modernist wine, and clearly Ginestra. After 10 years, it is still tannic, although lots of sediment can be found at the bottom of the bottle. I had a sip upon opening, and then decanted it for 2 1/2 hours, which was a mistake - the wine closed, and was not as enjoyable. It did open up later in the glass, but not much.

It is more structured and heavier than your normal Barolo, being neither floral, very complex nor long. There's more oak than I like in my Barolo, and a complete lack of red berries and cherry which I really enjoy. But it is a wine of undeniable quality - its high acidity in particular makes it a good match for food.

94 points upon opening, 92-93 points thereafter - Hold.
  • br_winelover commented:

8/18/17, 1:37 PM - Thanks for your comment, oldwines - and I must say I totally agree with you. I usually decant my Barolo for 5+ hours before drinking, but on this night I was short of time, and thought a '07 Barolo (a forward vintage) might not need much air.
Next time I'll stick to what has been working for me since 2012. But I don't think it will change my preference for 'traditional' Barolo producers. I don't see this Ciabot Mentin ever reaching the lofty heights of a good Beppe Rinaldi Brunate, to mention one example.
