It was a long time since my last Mascarello, this one did not disappoint. It is in a sweet spot right now, no need for further cellaring.

On the nose some hints of a "natural wine". It needs to put up some weight otherwise is a bit watery

Cabernet with a Montalcino soul. I can feel the dusty territory tannins that you won’t find in bolgheri for instance. Would be nice to try it again in a few years

At this stage it its difficult to tell if this will eventually evolve into something out of the ordinary. At the moment it's just a very pretty young Nebbiolo with very appealing value for money

At this stage is quite oaky, but no more than most burgundy grand crus.
Expecting great things from this beginning 5 years from now

It is a good primitivo although Primitivo is not my favourite grape.

It is a really modern interpretation of a brunello. Sweeter, more oaky, a less refined tannins. I prefer something else but it is technically impeccable

It does not reach the 90 points mark. It tastes almost like a res jura, very skinny green, distant from pinot from elsewhere. Nose is almost fruitless with mostly geranium and a lot of dry flowers

Liked it very much, although it remained almost all night on lemony / citric notes and did not add much more depth, would have loved a little more richness

Rich and unctuous, without being heavy or obvious. Definitely Napa style, but quite pretty indeed

Perhaps it’s not ready yet. The acidity is mind boggling, amazing how wines were perhaps much better 40 years ago. Just 12,50 alcohol and a balance hard to find today

Traditional amarone, less sweet and concentrated than most, finishes dry and lean. I personally like this style, a more complex and less "in the face" wine

Not the biggest fan of this modern style. Still the wine benefits from the great vintage and it is drinking well, no need to hold

From magnum. Still very much alive, evolving nicely retaining good acidity and balance, but not going anywhere from here, better to drink it up.

This screams Langhe. Definitely more about the terroir than the grape. Do not expect any fruity Cab, this is earthy, autumnal, graphite, leather. Loved it!
