Aging quite nicely with a bright nose of mixed berries, wonderful, refreshing dark fruit on the palate with well integrated acidity and tannins. Good balance. Mellow, lasting finish. Pair with pizza, bar-b-que or red pasta dishes.

Aerated and Decanted 6 hrs. prior to pairing with beef shank, slowly braised with mirepoix and wine/tomato sauce and roasted carrots and potatoes. Deep, dense glass staining inky egg[;amt in color. Dark fruit, cherries, spice and minerals on the nose. Cherry fruit bomb, like a reduction of cherries, blueberries and plum. Very compact, powerful spine. Structured, silky tanins framed with wood bark. The finish lingers with hints mixed fruits, including apple notes and spice.

Great wine! New world "look" and nose; old world taste with new world power. This big boy's spine carries that phenomenal fruit, coffe and spice all the way through the long finish.

Sim. notes to previous tasting. Except......... This wine was popped, decanted and paired with baby back ribs smothered in bar-b-que sauce then saved for the next day. On the 2nd day this wine was still going strong, intense black cherries and spice on the nose, penetrating fruit, heavy bodied, mouth coating, chewy, well structured. The wine's acidity kicks in with well integrated tannins and heat. Beautiful!

Needs time on its side. Disjointed, overpowering sweetness and vanilla. You could freeze this and eat it as a Popsicle. There is potential...... in the future.

Filtered/decanted 4 hrs. prior to consumption with a generous quantity of sediment collected. Even at the end of the pour there was a tablespoon of superfine sediment at the very bottom of the decanter! We paired this with a Christmas prime rib dinner and it did not disappoint! This was my third and last bottle of this vintage. I love the powerful, yet elegant nose of dark fruit, floral notes and spice. Although this bottle did not have the up front, in your face powerhouse punch of the previous two bottles, this wine's evolution into a supple, balanced delivery of it's berry, herb and mocha is quite nice. Still heavily bodied, even chewy in texture. There is a noticeable drop in tannins, taking a little off the spine, but the ever present, consistent fruit still carries from the nose to the rather long finish. A great wine, one I will remember forever.

Great pairing for our Thanksgiving dinner of roasted turkey and braised English cut beef. Powerful fruit/floral nose, dark berries and spice on the palate, nice structure and integration. Long finish. This wine is ready to drink now.

Extraordinary! A bit tight initially, but after 30 min to an hour this big boy opened up quite nicely. Dark berries and a bit of cherry on the nose, more on the palate. This wine has an unbelievably strong backbone that carries the fruit, tannins and acidity in unison. There is depth, character and complexity. With all that is going on one does not seem to notice the heat which is weaved tightly into the body of the wine, which I like a lot. The finish is never ending, or so it seems. This is not a subtle wine - it is big and powerful with a statement. One more bottle left.

50/50 Sangiovese/Merlot blend from Tuscany's Poffio Bonelli. Quite nice!
Complexity, balance and a long silky finish deliver a fantastic taste experience. Profound nose of dark fruit, spice and cured meat. Currant, blackberries, raisins and spice(s) with soft tannins and well integrated heat. Each sip presents a new surprise to discover. The only thing that could make the experience better would to be in Tuscany to open the bottle.

Popped, filter/aerated, decanted and tasted within 30 min. There was not a speck of sediment in the filter or on the sides of the empty bottle, despite the wine maker's notes that this wine is not clarified or filtered in it's making. Cranberry color, medium density, very little staining of the cork with black raspberry, currant and soy nose. My expectations were quite low at this point. However, WOW, what a big burst of exciting dark fruit, spice and balsamic flavors in this medium bodied wine! There is plenty of fruit, but this is not a bomb, it is very smooth on the palate with a light texture. The structure is well-integrated, the balance if perfect with a backbone of firm support and a finish that provides miles of complextity with minerals and spice. These notes were developed over four hours of tasting this great wine. I look forward to how this wine will age.

Brickish in color, medium bodied, restrained floral and menthol, dried fruit and spice, a little off balance to the right, soft tannins carry on into the finish.

Aging well, powerful, great backbone, but what is interesting is that the complexity, well, is becoming more complex! The nuances are unfolding like the layers of an onion. The ultra fine tannins provide extended support, the spice components bounce off each other during a finish that never ends.

Very, very nice. Not as good as the Clarendon Hills Liandra Syrah that it followed - during a terrific roasted duck with berry sauce dinner - but very good indeed.
Deep, dense, dark eggplant in color; a very berry nose, raspberries, cherries, licorice and spice with great balance and integration. The best finish I have had in a very long time. The spice thread in this wine actually supports the distinctive structure, carrying through the palate and completing the finish. I do not agree with WS that this is a 96, but in a couple of years, it might.

Eddie Merlot Bloomfield Hills, MI - paired with Tenderloin Filet and King Crab legs. Popped, decanted and poured. Youth on the lightly stained cork. Beautiful dark fruit and spice on the nose; on the palate, fruit bomb of black berry, plumb, currant, Napa leather without the dust. A little heavy on the acidity, but maybe needs to mellow out a bit with the fruit for what is sure to be a great balance. Light tannins and heat. Could use a little more backbone. Finish was an impressive surprise! This wine will age well. Nice effort from the wine maker, hats off!

Last of three bottles. In addition, I had a vertical of Buccella from this, their first release (2002) to the latest release, 2011. But then, wine was meant to drink, so my wife and I shared the bottle to celebrate our son's 40th and my 65th birthdays. This wine has aged very well and has not really changed that much since my first tasting of the wine eight years ago. The nose and fruit is clean, distinctive and pronounced. The tannins and acidity have softened slightly. The backbone and overall structure is fantastic. I would dare say this wine will keep another 30 years! So, the 2003 and the rest of my remaining vertical is very safe. I keep my Buccella wines in a single, undercounter style, 36 bottle capacity wine cooler set at 59F in a corner of my basement.

I can't get past the methane component of this wine. Popped and poured and tasted - light bodied, thin on fruit, high on heat. Lopsided. After 14 hours tasted again to see if the fuel had blown off. Not so much.
Not my cup of tea........ err, wine.

I agree with WS's 90 pt. rating. Dark, medium density, medium bodied, dark fruit and spice nose. Ripe plum, mocha, cranberries, mild tannins, well integrated heat, medium finish. Supple but not complex.

Still drinking very well. Cloudy-dense eggplant color, medium bodied.
Decanted through a typical wine funnel with very little captured sediment despite the cloudy appearance. I tested a portion of the wine with a coffee filter and was able to capture a few, very fine suspended particles. These were not bothersome since my palate could not detect them.
Lots of dark fruit with hints of spice. Nice integration and balance. Heat was muted. Nice long finish.

This wine has aged rather well! Sediment caked cork and bottle neck. Decanted thru funnel filter and poured immediately. Deep, dark, dense black-purple with dark fruit and leather nose. Heavy/medium bodied with fruit forward (black berry sauce and anise) impact on the front palate that quickly integrates with the nicely balanced tanins and heat. The beautiful flavor carries on thru a very long finish, ending with soft spice. Very well crafted. A little surprised to find this much fruit eight years after the harvest.

What a find! Recently added to the wine list at the Old Stone Inn in Washington, MI. 82% Cab Franc / 18% Merlot. Nicely crafted with deep, dense color (contributions from the Merlot) with dark fruit mingled nicely with spice and mild herbaceous notes and delicate strawberries. Nice balance of fruit and acidity, but the star here is the great backbone that ties everything together - flavor density with well integrated tannic support. This paired well with Old Stone's special Buffalo meat loaf.

Very good wine! This is a dark, dense (very dense) heavily bodied, fruit forward, new world style wine. Nice integration and balance. I can not agree with WS 94 pts. To get there I should have experienced a little more backbone and a longer finish. However, this is very, very good.

My first bottle consumed of this wine was 12-26-12. That one was not so good. This was very good, but I lost my tasting notes and can only say that this wine was dark, fragrant with dark fruit and had a velvet mouth feel with minimal tannins. Was looking for a little more back bone, but still, a nice experience. I can not give it the 93 pts that WS bestowed, but maybe it will continue to evolve and improve?
