Less than 90 points, really? Getting blue fruits, nice mouth feel, seems like it is quite a step above the other J Lohr, about 93points if not more. Now that I gave it a couple hours, very nice jamminess covers the palate with balance, plenty of fruit. I am quite fond of this wine with steak

3/23/20, 7:35 PM - Solid 91-92 points from me! Needs an hour or so of decanting to shed the overt sweetness and vanilla... after that it’s quite a good drop.

Lacks richness and tannins are a little rough so I can't rate this any higher. I am surprised at the people who rated it higher and if they are honest reviewers. I have been to the Round Pond winery and they have some very nice wine albeit a lot more expensive.

This wine really delivered tonight, perhaps the best showing since its bottling. As has been stated in previous notes, nice deep, dark purple color and extraction, with a deep, dark purple color. Ripe dark fruit composed of blackberry, blueberry and black cherry fruit. On the palate is a big, full-bodied, fruit forward, yet nicely crafted and not overdone. 94.6 Points and perhaps the best is yet to come.

The nose was dark yet zesty, showing woodland herbs against polished black fruits, dried florals, and sweet spices. On the palate, I found silky textures, offset by cool-toned acidity, as fresh black fruits enveloped the senses, washed clean by another burst of acid and saturating minerality, creating a wonderfully balanced expression. The finish was long, as saturating dark fruits and minerals gave way to sneaky tannins, leaving an impression of youth but also one of pure satisfaction. I love it when the hype is justified.

Nice flavors and an elegant style. Beautiful nose and on the palate, plum, cassis, blackberry, raspberry and tobacco. This is a very decent medium to full bodied Cabernet produced in a classic style, exhibiting good structure and balance. A very solid 94 points, I like this label.

2015 Martin Ray Cabernet Sauvignon Synthesis Napa Valley
Nose: Bright, sour cherries with some firm, dry oak and slightly dried earth. After some time, vanilla appears on the nose.

Palate: Dark, purple fruit, deep earth, same firm, dry oak and some vanilla as well. There's noticeable amount of heat and oak.

Dark Ruby with some purpling. Dry with medium-minus amounts of chewy tannins. Medium bodied with medium to medium-plus acidity. Good finish of about 10-12 seconds. So maybe the bottle I had before was some bottle variation but it was really bad variation. This is a lot better but can use a lot of decanting or just more bottle age. Still young and harsh but a hefty decant will help the harshness. Enjoyable now minus the heat and some oak though. Give it another at least 5-8 years for some oak to integrate and the heat/harshness to settle a little.
  • DuckfaninMT commented:

8/15/19, 2:23 PM - Nice notes, both of them. Glad to see that it appears to have improved with some modest aging. Will be trying this tonight.

Aromas of pencil shavings, violets, smoke and chamomile. Extraordinary velvety tannins and elegant mouthfeel make this juice a joy to drink. Raspberry preserves, cassis, dark cherry, black currant, and anise. A lush balanced wine should stand tall for a while. 94 points.
  • DuckfaninMT commented:

6/15/19, 5:09 PM - I’ve not revisited this wine since the “overly grapey/fruit bomb, purple juice + added vanilla extract” 2013 vintage. Those couple bottles went down the sink.

Your notes are tempting me to give this another try.

This is Platonic-realm-of-forms level perfect Napa Cabernet. Cassis-driven, and without a note out of place. Perfectly proportioned over its middleweight. Plenty of evident tannin but very approachable already. Finishes long. Not profound but classic. 92+

Impromptu dinner at the Sullivan's.

A really terrific Cabernet. Medium body wine with crushed blueberry aromas. On the palette the wine is berry laden, fresh and well balanced. The mid palette is a bit of a let down with muted fruits which are present but not expressive. Finish is more wood than fruit. Overall easy to enjoy and better than most at this price.

I’d raise this bottle to 90 Points. And I believe I found THE trick with this baby. I had it with a Grilled Cheeseburger & Fries and THAT'S the trick for this wine. It was MUCH better with the nice char of grilled red meat with grilled onions, cheese and fries. Yes, it was only an “In ‘n Out” cheeseburger and fries, but that ain’t bad and they BOTH improved each other. Yummy!

I’d also raise this to a Very Good QPR. Love it when something like this happens to a wine one has had before!

drinking beautifully now, especially for a 2014. Celia Welch wines are almost always excellent and this is no exception. It's very typical of the growing area with lots of dark fruits, some dust, mocha but not at all hot. Will surely get better but great now as well.

Drank at Seasons 52 , floral notes with a hint of pepper on the nose.Aromas of black fruit, currants and plum with some pepper and thyme.Full bodied wine with a pleasant mouthfeel. The dark fruits flowed though on the palate along with a hint of cassis. Tannins are on the softer side but still solid with good acidity, a very solid wine from the Alexander Valley. A very well balanced wine, went well with Lamb Loin.

We tasted this at the Woodinville tasting room on 4/21/18. It had a deep, rich bouquet of smoke, black currant, plum, mocha, cocoa, pepper and spice aromas. The palate was rich, dry and tart with flavors of black currant, black cherry, plum, mocha, cocoa, pepper and spice. 91+

Currant, black cherry, gravel, and earth notes lead the way, with a notable grippy minerality that elevates this wine beyond just being your average throwdown NV. Medium weight mid-palate, with a finish that brings more black fruit and stone to the profile. Surprisingly layered and focused considering its price point. 90-92 points. A decent enough entry level Cabernet for those who aren’t looking to geek-out too much on their wines. Drink now and over the next 3-5 years.

Served next to a 2014 Hall Napa Valley, which showed fruity and flat compared to the more nuanced Phelps.

From Bledsoe Family Winery, Flying B 2016 is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Syrah aged in 64% new French oak for 20 months. At this stage in its development—the nose is heavily laden in primary fruit—juicy blackberries, black currant, and black cherry precede lighter tones of cinnamon, vanilla bean paste, and sweet tobacco. In the mouth, ample black fruit fleshes out the core. Suave tannins and balanced acidity contribute to this wine's overall deliciousness and length. 14.5% ABV | Sample

Decanted for an hour. Stunning purity, poise and length. The nose is of boysenberry, vanilla, tarragon, plum, lava rock and tool chest. A true hybrid, this is modern Napa with some old school tendencies. The depth is evident, along with the microfiber tannins. Delicious. Drink 2019 - 2032.

Excellent CA Cab. Nice balance of pepper, dark dark cherry, cassis, tannin, earth, spice. Complex enough to be interesting, and nice balance and weight. Good value at $28. Let it breathe a bit and let me know if you find something better for 28 bucks.

PnP, with loads of black currant and moderate oak on the nose and palate. Dark berry flavors emerge, and a lightly tannic finish provides needed grip. A crowd-pleasing style, with just enough verve to make it interesting.

Pleasantly surprised to find a balanced and well integrated Napa cab at this young age and at this good price point. Rated 92 points by WE. PNP. Dark purple in the glass. Flavor profile included blackberry, plum, cedar, oak, vanilla, mocha and coffee elements. Mouthfeel was thick, bordering on rich and slightly sweet without crossing the line into fruity. Slightly complex, full-bodied appealing with structure supported by dusty tannins. Medium length finish that was smooth and pleasing. While looking for a "current drinker" I found a wine that fills the bill yet has potential for some significant cellar aging. An excellent QPR.

A gorgeous transparent garnet with a slightly milky hue. The unexpected essence of peaches, yes peaches, with apricots and nectarines, are the first surprising notes offered up in this heady elixir. Still in its infancy, with as much underlying funk as the godfather of soul himself and a sweet cherry caramel backbone, it is years away from the spectacular wine it will become. But it will be difficult to resist right now. Opens like a rose with each floral smoky, ethereal mouthful. And the peachy aftertaste lingers for minutes. A wonderful wine.
