Lovely fresh red juicy fruit on first pour. After 30 min darkens a little and then more plush after an hour. Excellent experience, worth tasting on first pop.

Tasted immediately on opening and pleased we did. Plummy fruit, dark delicious, vibrant. Deepened and put in weight over time, lost a little of the cheeky vibrancy of the first 30 min, but what a fantastic wine.

Surprising because when first poured it was a little flaccid. Too warm. This wine needs to be 16-18degrees C , and a half hour of air, ideally an hour, then boom. So plush gorgeous juicy alive and darkly delicious.

Not sure where this is going, fairly tight and reserved after open two hours, sour dark fruit. Hard to get a read on it - not very enjoyable at the moment. This bottle, anyway.

Losing some of the exuberance of youth, still tight and fairly tannic and serious. Nothing particularly enjoyable other than a tightly wound core of cassis. I’m sure this will be lovely... eventually.

Drinking nicely now. Not particularly memorable, improved after a few hours to reveal more nuance which suggests no rush to drink.

Inspired by DJHammond posts i bought a few on auction. Initially thoughts were, yep nice old slightly tired Bordeaux, not very characteristic or memorable. Then there was a point, about 4 hours into a slow decant, when the temperature dropped to about 18 degrees C, when then planets aligned, when Frank Sinatra sang, and when this lovely gorgeous wine flashed its personality, a thick river of joy. That moment, of great juicy dark fruits, of plumpness, and pluck, is what i will always remember. As so much in life, it’s all about timing.

Really lovely from first pour with no decant. There is a beautiful balance and delicious forest floor with some lively fruit early on, ideally about 18degrees C not too warm to keep it tight. Great for the first hour or so then faded into a nice old gal, first hour or so was best. No upside to holding so drink now if you’re on the fence, but also not about to fall apart over the next 5 years after 36 years of patience to date.

For me, pop and pour was undrinkable... musky, animal, thick, barnyard. But not in a charming way, just a bit of a brute. As you’d expect from a great producer in a top vintage. Decided to stick the cork back in after 1/2 glass, and try day 2 after a day in the fridge.
Day 2 was enjoyable, especially after a couple of hours air after it rose to about 18 degrees. Then it was more about dark juicy fruit, aromatic fun animal punch, a bit of salt lick. Will of course be awesome in 10 years but if you’re contemplating now, a mega decant is recommended.

Thoroughly enjoyable and drinking well now. Only a 30 min decant but opened up after an hour and was well balanced, youthful, energetic, quite dark, a little serious, but quite a plush fruit floor. Yes it will unwrap over time but at an enjoyable napaesque phase now.

Fairly enjoyable, but not open at all, red fruits, tart, some interesting saline notes, but they faded and it ended up red crunchy juice.

Lovely, quite fleshy and dark from first pour with no decant. Over time the grip loosened but no significant decant required, maybe 30-60 min and then a few hours of joy.

Really good after min 1 ideally two hour decant. Ripe plump rich clean and delicious. Cassis, with warm wood, a hint of vanilla, but quite fresh crunchy acids to keep it clean. The 03s are showing so well now, actually a great vintage despite the heat freak outs.

Drink to believe. This wonderful wine started as a plush approachable and clearly great pedigree wine, but I couldn’t distinguish great right bank warm year vs Italy vs even poss California. Then really hit its strides after an hour or so in the decanted, (decanted upon opening) and i fell into a pit of plush warm plums chocolate and glory, absolutely gorgeous and lengthy. Wow!! And no rush, plenty of structure and wonderful fruit / acid balance to ensure a great decade in front, but why wait as so good now.

Drinkable but oxidised almost slight sherry nose. Yes red fruits and some hidden goodness in a light frame, but killed by the funk. But not sure it’s flawed or just not lasted 6 years. If I were to rate it, 80

Really loving this. Fresh, lighter style of sassicaia, earthy, tangy, nuanced, juicy fresh mouthwatering acids, light on its feet, but I suspect will flesh out admirably, to be quite an ethereal experience in the near (3+ years) future - but thoroughly enjoyable now if you can handle the grip.

Good enough, but just not that great even after 2 hours in the glass with a 1 hour decant (I should have tried pop n pour that could have worked). Quite tight, reserved, a bit sour, lacking interest or energy. The shy kid at the back of the class. 04 is a bit all over the place, i suspect the slightly stern St Estephe needs more warmth more than some.
Edit: checked this hypothesis as a fyi, this is the highest scoring growth in SE, equal to Beasejour, Cos, and others like Calon lagging.

Just gorgeous. Enjoyable from first pour after a 30 min decant, really came alive after two hours as is typical of Lalande. A bit funky initially, which blew off to reveal Deep pure delicious layers of medium weight fresh pure Pauillac in all its earthy cassis glory, with a dollop of plums and leaves. I’m loving 01s, more so than many “better” vintages.

Absolutely bazonkas from first pour. Everyone sat up In their seat like they were watching an election result. Thrilling fireworks, insane mouthwatering acidity. Grapefruit, lime, limestone, loved it. Perfect sorbet substitute. Probably too intense for dinner.

A stunning wine to enjoy now, or in 3-5 years. Enjoyable from first pour, really worth considering decanting as at the two hour mark it was really firing with intense mouthwatering grip that i love, grapefruit, limestone all the good stuff.

Delicious from first pour, ripe, open and surprisingly fleshy but feeling very well built. Really opened up after about an hour or so. An almost merlot like lusciousness Coming through which I’ve never seen in the 2001. I’ve had a few bottles of the 01 and this was by far the best experience. it’s really hit it’s strides. given this is the latour clearly no rush I guess a couple of decades of ageing runway left but it’s so good now why wait?

Lovely to revisit my old mate, pape Clement. What a reliable and wonderful producer and place, with their “1000 year old olive tree”.
The 12 started off enjoyable from first pour, quite soft tannins and nice red and black fruits. Two hours later everything fell into place, fattened out, gained depth and revealed more stone, black fruits, juicy tension, and it was quite honestly thrilling by hour 3. One of those great journeys when you could have pulled the rip cord after 30 mins of ‘quite nice’.

Nowhere near the heights of SHL in other years. A bit flaccid initially. Firmed and fattened after about two hours, waxy and more tense grapefruit emerging, but no fireworks, so hopefully a moderately good outlook / decant required in near term.

Opened and tasted straight away. Drinkable, kind of enjoyable, an insight into an older style Bordeaux, but not stuffing. Two hours later... Dull. A flaccid wine, that did not rise to the occasion. Brings 95 into disrepute, when it can be so good.

Wow oh wow. Absolutely superb. Double decant, one hour. Nose insane, wild evocative, thrilling mind filling. On both Nose and palette were cassis, mineral, fresh cedar, forest floor, but also Asian spices, a little gunpowder and some sort of pixie dust. Very responsive to food and temperature - in a negative way. Basically couldn’t pair it with anything as despite being rich and glorious it was acutely independent and refused to tango with anything other than the blandest protein. A solo act, encore!

Bags of personality from first pour. Dark brambly fruit, unusual farmyard funk up front initially, blows off later, more dark cassis and plum is revealed. Good grip, moderate body and length. Good fun

Update 5 hours later... continued to evolve... became more plush and those early vintage notes if espresso cocoa and blueberry entered the mix alongside the cassis and plum. This is a great wine and a wonderful journey, but requires attention and patience.
