Another wine nearly at its prime.
Areation for 5 hours prior to consumption, the first glass was filled with endless floral and red fruit nose, where iris, violet, roses, raspberries composed orchestra playing.
Truffles and boletes ,together with Indian spices arose in the flower bouquets in the second glass, I could simply not describe properly the elegance of this wine at the moment;
The third glass was dominated by red fruits, some lovely cigar/tobacco nose decorated the sweet/spicy basis, which reminded me some northern Rhone "Divas" such as La Mouline or Chave, the touch was supple, full-bodied, with some polished but firm tannins, marvelous!
I bought it 11 years ago from a connoisseur based in Paris ——spending 1500 Euros——which was an incredibly high price at that time. But thinking about the rarity, I have nothing to regret.

The Best Burgundy Red I have ever tasted until now...
Seductive and endless floral nose with a tiny bit of candied fruit , and with sheer texture in the mouth.
The wine was at its prime, I'm so lucky to observe its best aspect , because the bottle variation of this wine is huge.

A Negociant Version 1947 Cheval Blanc bottled by Calvet. At that time Cheval Blanc was not even in "Grand Cru Classé" growth.
I could not imagine a 74-year-old wine was able to present such youthful aspects. When uncorked, the aromas were enclosed and tannins were astringent. I didn't hesitate to use a decanter, and even though, the bottle was not opened until 2 hours later.
The first glass revealed aromas like sous-bois, balsamic, tobacco and some elegant aquilaria nose. There was NO vegetal nose at all, which means high maturity was embodied in the wine. The acidity was high and the body could be classed as "medium to full".Tannins were still very astringent.
The second glass : the balsamic nose vanished and more aquilaria and tobacco nose arose, accompanying truffle, graphite and cedar nose, corresponding its cabernet franc base. The acidity went smoothier but tannins were still firm and a little bit dry. The body went fuller, and the aftertaste was very long.
The third glass:at its prime! except the aromas mentioned above, some primary and secondary aromas arose magically! Could you imagine you can find violet, figs, dried rose and blueberry nose from a wine more than 70-year-old? The touch and the tannins went ethereal and even a little bit sweetness could be observed from the wine! This is the ultimate "balanced" wine I have been dreaming about for long time.
I'm not sure if I can taste '47 Cheval Blanc once more, but I'm clear that I'm so lucky that I can have it in my 30s.

Another OMG wine.
The second vintage of this mysterious cuvée exclusively produced for auctions.
Only in magnums, the nose and palate reminded me the 1989 Haut-Brion (seriously!)
I was like in the Neverland, surrounded by endless aromas and aftertaste.
The price of this magnum is largely the same as 1989 Haut-Brion (in bottle), so what else are you looking for?

This wine is totally like OMG!
I will say if we can find a wine with ultimate balance among elegance , complexity and power, I will say an E.Guigal La Mouline.
I can still remember what my oenology/viticulture professor said: "Côte-Rotie might be the wine with most complex nose in the world". After trying this La Mouline 1983, I deeply believe this.
After 2 hours' decanting, the aromas nearly blew me away.
I could find floral nose like iris, honeysuckle, violet and lilac; fruitiness like cherries, plums, blackberres; spiciness like rosemary, fennel, cinnamon, cloves, tobacco, mint, black olives, black pepper; tertiary nose like mushroom and sous-bois. The co-fermintation of Syrah and Viognier in this wine played me the most gorgeous melody in the world. The body of this wine is full, but with high-toned acidity, the aftertaste last 60+ seconds. Absolutely one of the best vintages of Guigal La Mouline!

Another beauty of Cabernet Franc that you should not miss.
Nearly perfect mouthfeeling, extremely balanced, very high acidity regarding 2009 was an extremely hot year.
Still a baby but.... a stunning wine that can get even better in next two decades.

My first 100/100 given. Parker said this is the wine he would like to have before he dies, I totally agree.
Never had a Bordeaux with such a perfect combination of floral, mineral, smoky, woody, fruity, toasty nose. The body and the tannins are simply flawless with the engagement of acidity. 45+ seconds' after taste. Speechless.
Should try if you have the occasion. Seriously!

Completely fascinated. This is kind of wines that I would like to taste for my whole life. Using Schott Diva Bordeaux glass (not a perfect glass for this wine though) but it was explosively aromatic and with ultimate elegance. Do not want to describe how complex the aromas were, just a sense of perfection I have got from this bottle. The palace was so balance and the touch is more than etheral, the acidity was vivid more than too high. Tannins were silky from the very beginning. Aftertaste 30+ seconds. Fabulous!

An ex-chateau wine, extremely healthy. At its peak, still a lot of fruits and floral notes, with good tertiary aromas. Medium bodied, melted tannins, and long finish. Not to miss it. Assumed to be one of the best wines in the 1985 vintage Bordeaux.

Too good to have it. Complex yet pure, full bodied yet crispy, super balanced and with a lot of potential. I love chardonnay of this style, forget about Meursault/Montrachet style chardonnay, new world wines should have their own benchmarks.

Tasted during the Biondi-Santi wine dinner @GZ Ritz-Carlton. Decanted 4 hrs in Riedel decanter, still a little bit descret when tasting. In glasses it showed seemless sour cherries (an elegant expression, not like cheap Chianti table wines), a lot of floral nose, spiciness ( Sichuan pepper and nutmeg), graphite and sous-bois. The aromas were so ethereal that everybody was fascinated. The palate was even more descret than the nose, showing firm and nervous tannins, and of course very high acidities. Can't imagine a 18-year-old wine could be in that youthful. Should wait for at lease two decates to see its best.

That was an exagerated , unreal, overwhelming powerful wine. It was the best Languedoc wine I have ever tried. Decanted for 2 hrs and used syrah/shiraz shaped glasses. How come that a Languedoc Syrah could be that strong and concentrated, even stronger than many Barossa centinarious vine shiraz? The colour of this wine was inky purple, with nearly no transparency, and thick sticky tears. The nose was so powerful that, could say nearly agressive. In the wave of aromas I could find canned cherries, creme de cassis, black olives, classic Languedoc "garrigue" noses, minerality, coconut(came from the oak), violet and a lot of black peppers. The palate was big and bald and full-bodied, with very high-toned acidity to balance the huge body, making it a unforgettable wine. The 15.5% alc didn't show burning sensations, a very well made wine, can't imagine how good it could be in next two decades of time.

Very Napa-styled, good maturity, explosive nose, with bunches of cherries, violets, cedar wood, vanilla, graphite... A bit of sweetness, with very round and polished tannins, and a long long finish. It was a complex sensation, mixture of elegance and flatteurness. That might be the very reason why Napa super-premium range wines become so fashionable.

Overrated, young, but good. I have never drunk a 100% with that elegance, the wood seems to go with a good way with the wine. It's a pitty that the aftertaste is a bit too short. Can be better in 10 years' time.

A New World Bordeaux Blend which has totally renewed my recognition. It has provoked my interests of exploring Yarra Valley wines. I can't imagine that the expression could be that elegant and complex, in the nose it showed violet, pine, fur, cinnamon, tobacco, mint, graphite... in the mouth, the acid, the tannin and the alcohol have been all in roundness, just like a well aged 1980s Pauillac (not like "good" vintages like 1982/86 )this is a wine that can make you find your "inner peace".

Served at 25C, the temperature is obvious toooooooo high. Used ordinary white wine glass(riesling/sauvignon blanc shape), still, I can feel marmalade, acacia, pop-corn, butter, toffee, mineral nose. Full bodied, balanced with good acidity, some oily/sticky touch but comfortable. The finish seems to be endless. What if I drink it in standard montrachet glass! Unbelievable wine!

Nicely preserved, the best Lascombes I have ever had. The real charm of a "Margaux" style, extremely typical Margaux nose: white flower dominated, with some fur and spices. The mouth-feeling is racy, tender, a little bit nervous, mellowed yet structured. I have abandoned Bordeaux wines for a long time, but this Lascombes pulled me back, I still could not say I know really well Bordeaux wines because I haven't much experience of tasting back vintages. How difficult it is to have a wine at its peak!

Grenat colour, limpid. And the smell, it's like a woooooooo! Raspberries, violet, tar, black tea,cloves,truffle...The body is quite thin compared to other Barolos. Musculin, elegant and powerful, the tannin is strong yet with very good quality. The finish is very very long. This is a symbol of traditional style of Barolo.

My wine of the first half year. Very possibly wine of the year. It might have the most elegant(or even teasing!) aromas that I have ever smelled, just like dews on newly-cutted rose petal. After the ocean of rose, it comes black tea, cinnamon, cloves, truffle, tar... The mouth feeling is all in purity, rounded, extremely balanced, with long long finish. After a while, the tannins seems to be awake and leaves me fine-grained and structured sensation. I wish that I could have this wine every day.

Burgundy in the CDNP. Rose garden and spice shop, soft, feminin, yet the "garrigue" nose can still tell us that it is a CDNP. It's quite weird to imagine that it is a CDNP, I think most of you have the same idea as mine. Yet it is glorious.

Absolutely a fantacy. It's the best expression of both power and elegance. Inky ruby colour, explosive violet, graphite, white pepper, liquorice, fur, black berries, mint,vanilla...the feeling in the mouth showed its youth.Full-bodied, but with sharp acidity, the tannins are still nervous, thus closed. The integration of acidity, tannin and alcohol is not yet perfect, yet will be a absolute beauty in 5 years' time.

Best viognier ever. It's nearly perfect. Why I said that? Viognier is one of the most difficult grapes to handle. If not ripe, no fragrance get out; If overripe, the stewed peach and overty bitterness will drive you crazy. This La Doriane is really an exception, it possesses both crystal-like purity and montrachet-like richness. In the nose, violet, nectarine, apricot, lemon, safran, and surprisingly, well integrated oaky flavour. The touch is not as oliy as most of the viogniers, and the acidity backbone make the whole feeling harmonious. And the finish is quite long. Everybody liked this La Doriane.

My first Chianti wine ranking 90+. I shall not say Chianti is a poor cousin of Brunello di Montalcino any more, because of this Cepparello. It is very beautiful, on its own way: it showed floral and newly-picked cherries nose, with minty, graphite and sweet spice decoration. Medium to full-bodied, seemed to be more fleshy than Brunellos.Seemless tannin, lovely acidity, and a little bit of sweetness. Not to miss it.

I have totally fallen in love with the aromas of this wine. Really a collection of flowers as if I have been lost in royal garden. The pity was the finish and persistant was a little bit short, and the stalky tannin stopped me from giving it even higher rating. But still, I love it.

An extremely rare wine! Drank in magnum and blind, the colour was light grenat that I thought it would be an aged Burgundy. But the herbaceous nose told me it was a Bordeaux, but aged. The nose was complex and delicate, some rose petals, cutted grass, leather, liquorice, mint, raspberries(still!)... The acidity was simply ammmmmaaaaazzzziiiiinnnnnnngggggggggggg!!!!!!The tannin was really "soyeux"! The body was fine and elegant, just like a slim girl in mandarin gown, I have never had a Bordeaux with delicate body and acidity like that, just like an aged Burgundy. A "sage" among us told us that the difference between aged top Burgundy and top Bordeaux is very slight, I agree with him, in this case. But it's too late, the QUIE family in recent years did some stupid and unacceptable wines, even if the 2005 vintage was awful (but they rescued themselves in 2009 and 2010), the 1963 glory will never come back again. This memory is good!

Jammy, saucy, with graphite and cedarwood decoration, the mouth was full, with appropriate level of acidity, giving a balanced and smooth wine. This must be the second best vintage I have tasted for Gruaud Larose(the 1982 vintage was even better than that!)

Tasted blind ,black colour, with deep ruby hue, thought it was a 2000 Pavie. A huge, very ripe crop. Some beautiful plums, flowers, blackberries, sweet spices, mints remind me a Cote Pavie wine in fully-ripen vintages like 1990,2000,2005 etc. The palate is full and sweet, the tannin is silky but has some structures. The aftertaste is long. For Cheval Blanc, this vintage is undoubtedly value-for money.

michele Chiaro is a Cannubi holder, but obviously not the best owner. 1.6 ha owned, serveral thousands bottles produced. I popped this wine and aired overnight, the nose was so attractive, some nice black tea, tar, floral, spice, dirt notes. The body was full, but was underlined by its quasi-over-astringent tannins. Acidity was high, making sliva-holding sensation. See that? Even if a precoce 2005 is young like that, if you are not a patient drinker, turn to Barbaresco, the more fruity and softer version of Nebbiolo.

I was surprised by its balance, it was not over-ripen at all, the body was full but the tannins were nice and smooth. The nose, woooooo... All sorts of ripen black berries, plums , violet, mocha, vanilla, chocolate... Imagine that the 2000 vintage was still in youth like this, should wait for another decade to reach its peak.

Concentrated fuit notes, mint(This is the sybmol of Cote Pavie, precoce slope including Trottevielle, St George, Trolong Mondot and Bellevue Mondotte etc. ), violet and liquorice. The palate is balanced, but the tannin was still firm. All in all, this is an-overated wine. 100/100 is obviously too high.

This wine is seriously under-estimated by people. Why say that? I tasted this wine blind in duo with Chateau Pavie 2007. But nearly everybody liked the barely known Baron de Chirel for the sake of its ripeness and complexity. I should say if we didn't taste blind, the result will be opposite. The power of the label is considerable.

Tasted blind in duo with Mouton Rothschilds 2000, the nose at the beginning was so similar which made everyone on the table confused. Those black current, violet, tobacco, vanilla(still!) and cedar notes were so beautiful, that most of us mistook that was an old world. The mouthfeeling was full, opulent and deep, with layered tannin and long finish. What is more important, this wine looked like a younger vintage! Nice conservation status and outstanding performence.

Iconic wine, the oldest average vine age in the DRC holdings. (62 years old)It IS a good wine, but the price is way TOO high. 4000 USD per bottle? Come on! I'm not a billionaire, but I am fortunate that I had the chance to taste this wine. Personally speaking it was not as good as 2005 Louis Latour Montrachet for the sake of concentration, it was slightly watery in the finish. But the nose was superb, the balance as well as the body. I'm looking forward to drinking the legendary 1986, could I have the chance before I die?

This is a king without a crown. I couldn't believe a non-classé Medoc wine could be that complex, layered, souple and charming. Dare you tell which one is better-------if you put 1994 lafite and 1994 Sociando together and play a blind tasting game? In my opinion this is the best Haut-Médoc wine, event better than Latour Carnet, La Lagune and Cantemerle. Its consistency will ensure its quality up to at least 3rd growth GCC.
