In my opinion, VA's grape is Petit Verdot, not Cabernet Franc. I find that an aged VA Petit Verdot is similar to drinking a CA Cab, but at less cost. The wine is full bodied still with backbone and luscious dark red fruits.

If you ever get the opportunity purchase some Petit Verdot from VA and lay down for at least 5-8 years prior to drinking. You will be rewarded.

Ten years later and the wine is still really nice with possibly another 2 years left. I need to make another visit tot the wineries in the Charlottesville, VA area again.

Another outstanding Tannat produced by COB. It's possible I drank too early as this wine easily has another 5 years.

Similar notes as Niagara wines. An enjoyable bottle which certainly has a few more years. I'll hold my other bottle until 2021.

I forgot I had this bottle and am pleasantly surprised with how well the wine held up after 8 years. Paired nicely with, yet another surprise, NY Strip.

I truly believe Burgess is a "hidden" gem amongst the expensive Napa landscape. Always a good Cab at a great QPR...a step up from the mass produced CA Cabs.

I think all the prior posters may have drunk this wine too early, IMHO, as the latest posting is from 2013. I purchased this wine LONG ago and forgot about it in my cellar. While going through the cellar, I came across this bottle and thought, "Why not?" I opened this wine on a Monday evening and upon 1st sip I thought, "Meh...glad I didn't spend too much, but had to try a Costco wine." I re-corked without any special wine preservers and didn't touch the wine again until Thursday when I poured another glass. Wow! What a huge difference. The wine had opened with dark fruit and almost full bodied mouthfeel. I enjoyed it so much I had a 2nd glass and then re-corked...again without any special preservers. I had the last of the wine on Saturday and it was still singing. I was really amazed and now wish I had purchased more than just the 1 bottle.

I'm starting to think '11 vintages, both CA and VA, are much better than previously thought...but then this is a To Kalon, a vineyard which rarely produces a "bad" wine.

Still needs some time. Wine really opened up after 2 hours of decant so wait at least another year.

Tannins have softened, but still present. Good acidity and nice warm fruits with just a hint of pepper on the end.

So this is what a really good Chardonnay is supposed to taste like? I'm not a Chardonnay fan, but this was a really nice wine on its own, but surprisingly had enough heft to drink well with a Christmas rib roast. Held its own alongside an '08 Lewelling Wight Vineyard Cab and '13 Bevan St Rita's Crown Pinot with that Rib roast.

Drinking exceptionally well right now. Aromas and flavor profile more like a French Rhone. Big Pinot that is supple and smooth. Paired wonderfully with Rib Roast.

I thought this might be past prime but, despite being 375 ml bottle, this wine is drinking exceptionally well right now. In fact, it was so good, I actually drank the entire bottle in one night...by myself. Ha!

My family and I were highly disappointed. Perhaps our expectations were too high for a wine which garnered so many high scores or perhaps we should wait a few more years, but I don't know. The wine seemed disjointed and, though it did get somewhat better after warming up in the glass, it never reached the point of excellence. I have 2 more bottles...hmmm. Perhaps I'll drink one next year to see if it improves, but I'll probably give the other bottle away.

Not a full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon that one would find in CA, but this was an excellent Cab with medium body, nice balance and deep dark fruit. I can see why it won a place in the VA Governor's Cup case for VA wines. Glad I have 2 more bottles.

Drank in a Blind tasting, and over several days, against a 92-pt (Galloni - Vinous) CA tannat. This VA wine was SO much better in just about every aspect from nose to viscosity to palette. Have to rate this one higher. VA Tannats can be hit or miss, but this one is definitely a hit.

Shared the wine with some of the office staff. The general consensus is that the wine isn't a true "sparkler", but is delicious if you like a wine with more body. On the nose was oak, dark fruit and vanilla. On the palette we tasted dark cherry, blueberry and dark chocolate. One co-worker didn't like the wine at first, but it grew on her and she decided she absolutely loved it. Yes, it is different, but I really enjoyed the wine. The only drawback is that the wine seems to quickly lose the "bubbles" once in the glass. Overall, a very enjoyable wine...as long as you like a "fuller bodied" wine...which I do.

Had 2 bottles in the cellar. First one I opened was corked. <sigh> However, the second bottle was nice with cola, bright fruit and nice viscosity. I wouldn't hold for too much longer, but it definitely was a nice little wine...though not necessarily a great QPR.

I knew in advance the wine was too young to open, but was in the mood for a really good merlot. Dark color belies the changing flavor in the glass. At first dark cherry with nice acidity, but a bit too tannic and heavy oak. However, after an hour in the glass...yes, in the glass, the wine evolves, opening up to bright red fruit, less oak, but still tannic. I'll hold my other bottles for at least 3 years.

I was really concerned about this bottle when I had difficulty removing the wax. On top of that, the cork wouldn't come out either as it seemed like it was glued to the sides causing the cork to break. After pushing the remaining cork into the wine I quickly filtered into a decanter and then filtered again into another decanter.

Luckily, the wine was not flawed. Deep crimson and purple color. Slightly aromatic but full of rich dark fruit, and light cassis. The wine was medium to full bodied. An enjoyable wine despite the beginning.

Perhaps my expectations were too high? This was not a flawed bottle; just a disappointing one. Opened this to celebrate a dear friend's birthday. Barnyard on the nose, medium-to-light body with slight bricking on the rim, surprisingly bright red fruit on the palette with light tannins and nice finish. However, with all the hype, it just was not a truly exceptional wine in my mind...which this wine should have been. We were so disappointed.

Disappointed with this wine. It was a highly recommended Tannat from CA, but it just doesn't compare to the tannats I have from Virginia...yes, Virginia. In fact I had an '07 VA tannat recently which would blow this one away. Perhaps, as stated by a taster in a previous review, this wine is one it's way down.

Well this was a surprise. I remember this wine was a sympathy purchase since my palette just didn't really care this winery's wines. Age has done wonders for this wine. Dark purple, almost black, to the edge, dense full-bodied with wonderful dark fruit with integrated tannins (soft). The only complaint would be the oak hasn't fully integrated, but otherwise this nice surprise was well worth the money paid. Guess I need to revisit the winery.

Was an enjoyable wine, but have had better for lesser money, so you could say I was a bit disappointed. The wine was medium-full bodied, elegant and finished nicely, but it just seemed to be missing something. I will hold my other bottles to see if it improves with time.
