Floral and mineral with just a hint of orchard fruit and a kiss of lemon. Holding up incredibly well and a joy to drink. Perhaps it is lost a little bit of its luster from its youth but glad I was able to experience this with some age behind it also

Lovely, it isn't Muscadet and it is okay with being its own thing. Lime, lemongrass, orchard fruit, and beautiful texture. Versatile and greatly appreciated.

Past it's prime I'm thinking. At this point it's kind of a train wreck, floral on the nose with some sweet orchard fruit but without the structure on the palate to hold it together. Lots of RS, sweet and disjointed...

Opened on the deck with friends and did not disappoint.

Light petrol compliments the core of orchard fruit. Leaning toward off dry but with medium plus acidity to hold it together. I regret not taking a more detailed note, glad to have another bottle.

Brought to Literary Society, firmly middle of the road with no obvious flaws but also held no interest.

Par for the course for an entry level wine in a difficult year, stick to the more prestigious offerings in 2013.
Red
Showing beautifully despite its youth, wonderful balance leaning toward darker fruit and violets on the pallet and that trademark marine sedimentary soil tannin structure.
White
Brought to the Literary Society, perfect for one of the first warm summer days. Enjoyed by all.
Red
Enjoyed but did not rate or take specific notes.

Memorial Day BBQ, great to share with friends. Darker fruited but seemingly light on the entry yet the acid and tannins are fighting a bit keeping this from being more highly rated.

Big zin! Heady nose driven by spice and perfume (dried flowers and musk). Fine grained tannins finishing with a ripe fruit driven finish. 14.5% abv

Boisterous sweet fruit. Pleasant and easy to like but a tad simple. One trick pony but that trick is enjoyable. Must truly have some RS because the 15.5% abv is barely noticeable.

Big, ripe, jammy. Cornucopia of ripe berries, despite being only 14.7 abv (middling for a RRV zin) it is definitely showing its heat a bit.

On the whole a nice wine but nothing I'm going to run out to get more of.

Lovely wine, lighter bodied but certainly not lacking. Primary grape/berry fruit, violets, Anaheim pepper, and a striking stony minerality. I could drink this all day, will search out more. Over performs for the price.

Wow, what an experience! Some air definitely does this good, better after 30 minutes int he glass and great still on day 3. Lighter in color than I expected from an oxidative style, pale gold. Preserved lemon, almond skin, hints of apple cider, and some kind of robust floral note not normally associated with white wines (think rose hips or potpourri). Also a fair amount of granite minerality and medium to med plus acid. Extremely long and lingering finish. What a unique wine and a treat to drink! Fabulous producer and a wine that definitely speaks of the region and year, wish I had more.

Wow, great wine. The time has done it well, and will go many more years. At first still closed, but with a 3 hr decNt opened up a lot. Espresso, extremely dark chocolate, black fruits, and earth are where this wine is at. Awesome with ribeye, herbed fingerling potatoes, and grilled cauliflower. Packed with flavor but falling into the 'cocktail wine'category for me with the high extraction and alcohol level. An absolutely fabulous wine nonetheless, will buy more and wish I had more of this to save. A special wine. 15% ABV! imported by Jorge Ordonez. Buy again.

Unreleased... Wow, I may be a bit biased, but Zach Lawrence really did a fabulous job on this wine. Beautiful raspberry, cherry, strawberry fruit on this wine with cedar and an herbal undertone (think basil/slight mint/marjoram). Hints of mushroom on the finish. Just a beautiful wine, true to the varietal, appellation, and year. Very young now, but showing incredible promise. If I were to be super critical, it is slightly hot. Enough acidity and purity of flavors to go for some time and improved greatly with a 2.5 hour decant. That said, should be great in 3-7 years. 90 now... With decant. Excited to see where this goes and to experience future vintages with this vineyard.

Wow... It amazes me that I agree with the text of the previous tasting notes (for the most part - not reminding me of Gamay at all here) but I completely disagree about the score. This wine is an adventure....

Double decanted with an aerator (the old school kind that just pushes the wine across the side of the decanter, not that newfangled super-aerate plastic crud). Very barnyard and fresh turned earth from the get go, with medium plus tannins and medium acid. Loads of black fruit - blackberries, black cherry, boysenberry, plum. A very interesting wine, kept me engaged throughout the meal (ribeye and cauliflower) and dessert (an assortment of very dark chocolate) and paired well with it all.

To be completely honest, I could be under-rating this at 88. Very enjoyable and greatly benifited from the decant, would love to see this with a few more years in the bottle. A very tasty and engaging wine, drink now - 6yrs.

BTW, I absolutely love good Gamay, just don't see any close relation.

Killer Syrah. Strikes an excellent balance between fruity, earthy, and meaty. A superb example of what SLH has to offer. Pairs equally well with sirloin and dark chocolate. A beautiful, deep, rich wine that I perhaps drank 3-5 years before it's prime. Fabulous now, no need to wait, but no need to rush either.

Wow. I would have never guessed California if I had tasted this blind. Blind I would have gone to the south of France or Italy. Created from the rather obscure Arinto grape (an italian varietal), this has lovely cut and minerality with a good dose of pear, apple skin, and lemon. I could drink this all day long. I can't stress the mineral aspects coming off this wine enough! Just fabulous. Amazing with local crab, broiled asparagus, and wild rice. Will purchase more. Natural cork (seemed somewhat compromised - slight leakage - but the wine was sound); 13.5% abv

This is an unreleased, employee wine from Wrath/San Saba. From 2007 (in shiner, I believe it was 2007 vintage but was possibly bottled in 2007) and a case was forgotten or lost in the warehouse. Ambiguity surrounds this wine... Not sure if it is the mission grape, or grapes from a California mission (or possibly both!). Your guess is as good as mine!

As far as tasting notes go, this is quite nice! Sort of Italian Nebbiolo meets Spanish Tempranillo! Visually very light, can see through the wine in the bottle, but darker than a rose and more of a mix of blackberry and brick. A slightly darker, slightly musty and dusty nose yet with red fruit lurking. In the mouth it's all wild strawberry, herbs, fruit leather, and chalk with a wisp of tutti-fruity youth. Chalky, fine grained but noticeable tannins and just a hint of that trademark non- vitis vinifera foxy musk. Pretty wild, well made, what an experience. Vary lightly stained natural cork, no other dada as this was from a shiner. Super cool.

Purchased to make mussels in wine sauce. Nice drink but all in all unremarkable. All the components are there, tree fruit, lemon, light white flowers, and minerality but that said it seems the flavors seem to be competing instead of coming together. A previous note reminisced about the Loire valley, but I think there are much better wines at the same price to be found there (I'm thinking Patient Cottat Le Grand Caillou). Imported by Regal; natural cork; 13%abv.

Barely a rose in color, a very blonde, copper blush. Fine bead, obviously a quality sparkler. Initially the acidity is a bit overbearing, but after being open a little while it seems to come more into balance. Lots of pear, strawberry seeds, hints of watermelon and apple. Very light yeast notes under the fruit. A string of minerality runs through the whole thing. Quite a nice sparkler, but I have to imagine that a blanc de blancs may be better with the sushi tonight. Lovely bubbly, excellent QPR, compares to wines twice the price. 12.5% ABV, imported by Selection Eric Stauffenegger.

Darker and more meaty than the 09 but much more refined as well. The last vintage had curb appeal, this has depth and interest. Excited to have more, can't wait to see where this goes.
Red - Sweet/Dessert
From shiner. Nice little wine, less sweet than expected from late harvest (which I like!) red and black fruit, very ripe/big from a regular zin, but slightly lighter and more refined than an average LH zin. Medium minus tannins, slightly grapey, awesome with chocolate cake!

Nice champagne but I perhaps held onto this bottle too long. On the sweet side of brut, with lots of yeast and apple aromas. Persistent bead.

An odd presentation! Decanted 1.5 hrs and virtually no real initial attack on the palate, doesn't seem to come alive until the midpalate where it is stuffed with currants and dark fruit, leather, tea, and earth. Still noticeable but finely grained tannins. Wonderfully tasty with prime rib but an odd wine for sure. Natural cork.

Very nice wine! Darker in both color and flavor than the 2011. This is all about cherries, blackberries, mushroom, earth and tea leaves. Needed an hour to open up, but really lovely velvet palate. This shows huge promise and will be a real winner with some bottle age. Natural cork.

Wow, just lovely. Been tasting through a number of ports in various styles but this same price range (15-25 for a 750ml) and this is my standout favorite.

Dark berries with herbs and coffe undertones. A fabulously rich and deep LBV, will age for years and could use a decant if drank now. Will certainly pick up more from this house. Imported by Martine's Wines; natural cork; 20% ABV.

Wow, this just continues to impress me year in and year out. Lemongrass, gooseberry, citrus nose with a fabulously mineral palate. Like a New England stream running through the midpalate with all the granite and slate flavors. Can't beat it for $10! Truly a baby Sancerre. Imported by Vineyard Brands; natural cork; 12% ABV.

This shines a tad warmer and with a decant. Don't hold too long, but no rush to open, should be great until 2015

Worried that I do this injustice by only giving this wine an 89. A true to form, old world Chianti Classico. Beautiful garnet color that you can just see your fingers through. Cherry and red currants with a cornucopia of herb/earth notes, sage, thyme, marjoram, granite, and soil. A bit of a juicy pomegranate mid/finish. Fine grained tannins and medium acidity. This just shined with home made pasta. Not at all a 'cocktail' wine, but with a good home-cooked meal it is just what the doctor ordered! Continued to improve with a 2 hour decant. Will certainly pick up more (great at $20/btl). Made with organic grapes; 90% Sangiovese & 10% Canaiolo; imported by Coltibuono; Natural cork; 13.5% abv.

Passable but far from exciting. Sandalwood, molasses, golden raisins. Fairly coarse and short finish. No flaws and does the job, but for a couple bucks more I would venture that one could find something more exciting. Bottled in 2013; imported by international wine imports; bar stopper cork; 20% ABV.

Not exactly to my palate, but a beautifully crafted wine. A rich style of wine with the oak definitely showing it's stuff. Lemon, apples, tree fruit, meringue, toasted marshmallow. Dense mineral and marshmallow finish. A great wine, better on day 2 and 3 makes me think this will be stellar with mid term aging. Rombauer meets Chablis. Natural cork, 14.5% abv.

Green apples, almonds, sea air, and hints of Luxardo liqueur on the nose. On the palate salted almonds with a slight herbal bitterness. Almond skin and saline on the finish. The finish is possibly more packed with flavor than the palate. Really enjoyed this as an apertif, builds your appetite! 100% Palomino; Bottled 05/2013; from 375ml; imported by OLE Imports; 15% abv.
