We decanted the wine for two hours before we poured the first glass. It was dark ruby in colour and offered some floral notes, blackberry, cherry, black currant, bell pepper, some vegetal notes, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, leather, cedar, tobacco, cigarette smoke and graphite on the nose. On the palate the wine showed blackberry, cherry, black currant, vegetal notes, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, leather, cedar, tobacco and graphite, paired with medium to medium-plus acidity, medium-plus slightly bitter tannin and average length. The oak was quite prominent, the wine seemed awkward and was very upfront; it had a good initial attack, but fell off from the mid-palate through the finish. Disappointing; Talbot seems be one of the Châteaux that fared less well in the patchy 2011 vintage. Would not buy again.
