3/28/24, 7:37 PM - Hope you enjoy. Cheers!
1/16/24, 9:27 PM - Thanks. Always good to know that my palate is not alone.
12/22/23, 8:40 PM - Appreciate the update. I have quite a few of the 2006 and the only one I opened was definitely holding back. I am being patient with the rest.
10/12/23, 2:07 PM - Thank you and I hope you are lucky enough to have a bottle or two in your cellar!
7/14/23, 10:57 PM - An amazing vintage to be sure. From 1st growth to petite Chateau, the quality is so consistent. Thank you for the early look on a great Labegorce!
7/9/23, 9:29 PM - Hi John, I stopped buying from WineBid when I pulled off their bar code sticker from a bottle I had purchased and found an obvious flaw in the glass. There could be no reason to put the sticker in that exact spot other than to hide the flaw. Unfortunately I found it serveral years after the purchase. I'll never buy from them again. Just my 2 cents. Jim
7/10/23, 11:13 AM - Thanks for sharing your experience John. It sounds similar to mine. I have a little more faith in the K&L auctions because my experience has generally been better. But you are right... you never really know what you are getting when you buy a bottle at auction. I will say that I have opened hundreds of bottles from retail that were ex-negociant and, other than the normal amout of corked bottles which you would expect, I can't recall any noteworthy flaws that led me to think that the wine had not been stored properly.
7/7/23, 3:27 PM - I have not had the 2017 but I did taste the 2018 a week ago and it was interesting. The winemaker used some whole cluster in 2018 and there was a hint of green in the wine. Nothing overpowering and it was nicely balanced. I slightly preferred the 2016 but it may have just been due to the additional rest in bottle.
6/10/23, 3:36 PM - Don't give up on great! You might be surprised how much this will improve with age. And I'm thinking 8 - 10 years from now is when it should start to hit its stride. My optimism comes from tasting a barrel sample back in 2017 that was absolutely stunning. I hope the complex, layered wine I remember will emerge again in the future.
5/12/23, 4:33 PM - Hope you surprise yourself Speedy. Slow it down!
1/29/23, 4:57 PM - They did not mention and I did not ask as I was mainly there to check in on wines that I already own. Sorry.
12/1/22, 6:18 PM - Hi Paul, I opened and let it air for 3 hours but did not decant. We then drank it over 4 hours. It did change over that time but not for the better. I have one glass left in the bottle so will try again tonight.
6/30/22, 8:46 PM - Agree with you. At the UGC tasting in SF, Haut Bailly was clearly in top 3 if not the WOTN. A beautiful wine with a great future.
7/1/22, 11:01 AM - I started to dip into higher level 2005s the last couple of years with wines that I bought in half bottles. Dom Chevalier, Duhart-Milon, and Pontet Canet all showed great potential but clearly not ready for prime drinking. 2005 is a great vintage and requires plenty of patience. As I'm sure you know, prices are consistently steep. If you didn't get a stock of the 2016s, I think the quality is broader and it's easier to find value. I have purchased bottles at auction and provenance is always a concern. Being on the west coast, I've used K&L and WineBid and have found K&L auctions to be more reliable. Hope this helps you find some nice wine!
3/7/21, 8:59 AM - Tricky vintage, but there are definitely some gems. Enjoy!
11/14/20, 6:04 PM - It's 5 year old Pessac. The gloss will taper with time
12/15/20, 9:48 AM - Except that most "international" wines do not have a life span of 30 - 40 years and will not evolve successfully over such a long time horizon. Les Carmes is not a classic Pessac wine, but in my opinion, that doesn't necessarily mean it's not a good or great wine. Time will tell
12/15/20, 12:26 PM - you're funny bro!
12/15/20, 8:57 AM - I gave it about an hour for some air and to lose the extreme chill
11/10/20, 5:48 PM - Thank you for your notes! Having tasted these wines from barrel during en primeur in 2019, your impressions align with my recollection of the vintage. Some of the St Emilion wines which were absolutely beautiful in the 2016 vintage had a bit of roasted quality in 2018. And on the left bank (outside of 1st growths), Rauzan Segla was clearly exceptional along with several others including Calon Segur. Thank you again!
10/29/19, 7:44 PM - Poor choice of words on my part. I was using Vacu Vin at the time, so air exposure reduction or whatever you like...
7/19/19, 10:57 AM - Hello LiteItOnFire, for me, the Pagodes seemed a bit tight on the nose and slightly hard on the finish. I think it will improve. I like the 2016s from Bordeaux and the few 2016 Napa Cabs I have tasted were impressive
1/17/19, 11:19 AM - Hi, this bottle was opened for an hour prior to dinner and not decanted. I was tasting from 1 to 3 hours after being opened. In the house style, dark and sumtuous with firm but round tannins in its youth
5/28/17, 3:21 PM - Hi Jeff,Did you intend to write "dewy" to describe the fruit on the finish? I hadn't seen that before so just curious.I appreciate all your TNs posted on cellartracker.Thank you,Jim
7/28/16, 10:44 AM - Sorry to hear this. I also was burned by the criminal business practices of Premier Cru. Crooks.
6/26/16, 8:34 PM - I suspect it was bottle variation as the wine did not come across as old or tired. It just seemed slightly awkward.
4/22/16, 10:14 AM - And thank you for your notes on these wines. I do have a bottle of the "En Bas" and looking forward to opening later this year. Cheers!
