Very good. Banana and pineapple notes with crisp acidity. Great with food or would be fine on it’s own. Refreshing!

Third time I’ve had this wine and have been impressed on each occasion. Don’t know if this is vintage specific or not. If you can find the 2015, buy it. Well worth the $16 price at Costco.

This is the best bottle of wine under $20 I’ve tasted this year. The nose is rich with berries, vanilla and baking spice. The wine has a rich mouthfeel with smooth tannins and just enough acidity to keep it fresh. The bottle is heavy and similar in weight to more expensive wines. This is a statement wine from Bodega Norton and extremely well done. $16 at Costco!

Very good Napa cab. Allspice, cranberry and dried herbs on the nose. Very dry and smooth mouthfeel with excellent balance. Walks the line between new world and old world perfectly. Hard to beat at $30.

This wine is big and needs a long decant. I drank half the bottle yesterday and the rest today. The wine was average yesterday and exceptional today. It is great with food. I paired it with a medium New York Strip, which was perfect. Licorice, mixed berry and fresh herbs on the palate. Excellent acidity, with a rich, full mouthfeel and lingering finish. This wine shows its pedigree and is exceptionally well made.

Stunning wine. Dark chocolate, black cherries, raspberries, slate and Asian spice. Firm, velvety tannins coat the mid-palate and lead to a smooth, long finish. Probably the best $30 wine I have ever tasted.

Classy wine. Beautiful flavors of cranberry, cocoa and mint. A wine to savor and enjoy on a special occasion. This wine is still fresh after 11 years and will easily go another 10, but why wait? It is great right now and was perfect with a medium rare filet!

This is in a good place. Rich fruit, smooth tannins and a nice long finish. One of the most balanced cab’s I’ve had from Venge. Very enjoyable and an excellent vintage for this wine.

Best wine I’ve had this year. Soft tannins, with seamless integration of fruit and oak. Full bodied without being heavy. The finish is smooth, long and slightly sweet. Wine is at its peak.

The nose on this wine is beautiful. Like a bowl of black cherries with dark chocolate and baking spices. Love Cabernet wines produced from grapes grown in the Champoux Vineyard. Excellent!

Much better than the Venge Oakville Merlot. This has a firm tannic backbone which balances out the ripe fruit. This got better the longer it was open.

Hey now! Not bad for $10 at Costco. Bought this as a wine to make a red wine reduction for beef short ribs and poured a glass to enjoy while cooking. Surprised at the quality for the price. This is a very good every day wine. BTW, also worked great for the red wine reduction! Short ribs were awesome. Seek it out as a value wine. Plum, sage and baking spice on the palate. No fake fruit, which is common at this price point.

Picked-this up along with a Dry Creek Merlot on Christmas Eve. Popped and poured. Very dark with flavors of plum, Earth and spice. This could use at least an hour decant. The wine progressively improved while it lasted, but alas, it was gone before it was at it’s best.

Opened for Christmas Eve family gathering. This is a versatile wine we are serving with both appetizers and dinner. More old world than new world and very good with food.
Cheese tray, veggies, meatballs, ham and turkey. Nice merlot!

This cab is unabashedly new world in style. Blackberry jam on the nose and palate with significant residual sugar. Enough structure and tannin to keep it from being flabby. If you’re in the mood for big fruit, it’s hard to beat this wine.

If you are a fan of Cabernet from the Champoux Vineyard, in Washington State,
You need to try this wine. The secret to getting maximum enjoyment from it is to drink it on day two. Black cherries, spearmint and Asian spice on the nose. This wine has a full, rich mouthfeel with silky tannins that coat the tongue. This is a $30 wine that punches way above its price point. In the same league as Soos Creek.

Fred Scherrer makes incredibly balanced wines. This is a really good Zinfandel. Raspberry and Asian spice on the palate. Very refined and rich, without being heavy. Not your typical California Zin.

Very young, but has potential. Was apprehensive about opening this given some of the previous notes. This is the first of 6 bottles I have in the cellar. I have found the Ciel Du Cheval bottling from Soos Creek to need more time to age than any of their other wines. I suspect that is the case for the 2014 as well. If you have it, let it be for a couple more years.

Good Petite Sirah! Mouth filling fruit with Plums, blackberries and blueberries. Rich, but not excessively sweet, Which is a good thing in my book. Lingering fruit and spice on the mid-palate and a long finish. Excellent value of $12.99 a bottle at Costco.

Terrific Zin for $13 at Costco. Bright red fruit with notes of coffee and toast. Smooth tannins and a medium finish. Well balanced. Doesn’t have any of the cough syrup characteristics frequently found in California Zinfandel. Will buy more.

I’ve been working my way through the Trader Joe’s Reserve wines available at my local store. The Napa meritage is pretty good for a $10 wine. More fruit forward than the Red Mountain Reserve. Pretty nose with good fruit and smooth tannins, with a rather short finish. At this point, I would rank the four wines I’ve tried as follows:

1. 2016 Trader Joe’s Reserve Petite Verdot
2. 2016 Trader Joe’s Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Red Mountain
3. 2015 Trader Joe’s Reserve Meritage Napa Valley
4. 2014 Trader Joe’s Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Monterey County

Trader Joe’s 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, Red Mountain:

Couldn’t find this wine on cellar tracker. Label indicates it is lot #173

This is a terrific $10 wine, that is better on day 2 than day 1. Red mountain is home to some of the best vineyards in Washington State. Notes of black cherry and spice on the nose and palate. Good mouthfeel with a medium finish. Not as good as the 2016 Trader Joe’s Reserve Petite Verdot Paso Robles, but still enjoyable.

I first tried this wine in a vertical tasting at the winery in June of 2011. I remember it being my third favorite vintage at the time, after the 2005 and 2004. It went through a dumb phase for 3 or 4 years. Rest assured, it has come back with a vengeance, and is drinking great. I opened 24 hours ago and had a small pour, Vacu-vinned and put in the fridge overnight. Today, poured a glass and let it come up to cellar temperature. Notes of cassis, cranberry and chocolate on the palate. Beautiful, rich mouthfeel with smooth tannins and a long finish. One of my favorite wines. Robert Young rocks!

Opened last Thursday and have been working my way through the bottle over the past 5 days. As expected, the wine has gotten better each day. Classic Champoux flavors of black cherries and chocolate. I also pick up some graphite/ pencil lead notes. While enjoyable now, This wine is to young to drink and will be at its best in 5+ years, in my opinion.
