Drinking beautifully. Classic cherry menthol dried herbs with medium weight and long finish. Great with a nice piece of rib eye. Plenty of life yet.

Red fruits, with some added notes of rose and violet. The palate is quite lively, with nice acidity, a pleasant mouthfeel, and flavours of red fruits and a touch of spice. Oak flavours are subtle. A nice Friday night wine with pizza.

A lovely Piedmontese blend made of Dolcetto, Nebbiolo, Barbera and Cabernet Sauvignon. Ruby-red fruit like cherry and little hints of spice, supple and balanced with refreshing acidity making it the perfect accompaniment to a warming bowl of pasta.

Improved over 4-5 hours. Tawny brown, violets, sour cherry. Good but not great Barolo. May improve but I suspect better drinking over next few years.

First bottle worst example of corked wine i have ever experienced. Second bottle drinkable but flat and unlike good Barolo. Not a great advertisement for the maker or cork.

Disappointing. Decanted 2 hours prior and drank over another 3-4 but never really opened up. Tight dense fruit and not much nose. I was a fan of the previous vintage but will skip this.

3 hour double decant. Fruit started to appear although still very tight with obvious tannins. Enjoyable but hard to say if it will improve with age or is just a lean style.

Raised in concrete to retain varietal character and freshness the name of the game here is drinkability and Mongrana delivers that in spades with its cohort of plump, juicy, red and dark fruit characters, lovely perfume and gently giving tannins. It’s built to over deliver on character while remaining fresh and inviting, it’s most at home on the table with food, family and friends. This is a perennial favourite with us for its sheer deliciousness and the 2017 is no exception. A Little darker than last year’s iteration but also with a dollop more lip-smacking fruit. Great little wine. ROSCOE

Winemaker notes

The new release of what has become a foundation stone wine for us. An almost seamless follow on from the 2016. Obviously a little fresher and perkier than the ’16 at this stage, but it will follow a very similar path. Showing some red berry perfume and a light dusting of savoury oak that will develop with bottle age. Rich and soft in the mouth with a structure between medium and full bodied, but with a smooth mid palate and a lick of soft tannins. Will settle in the short term, but will build richness and complexity the longer it is in the bottle.
