Amazing nose of little red fruits, spice box, bright red cherry, and some congested sweetness. Palate is beautiful. With high acidity if the vintage but well integrated with medium tannins to match and a long sweet finish. Both palate and nose are complex but highly primary. Seemed to open up after 5 hours. Not as stunning as the Chambertin 08 I had a couple years ago but beautiful and could develop phenomical complexity in 10 years.

Rating this a touch behind the CSJ which I loved. Was hoping for a step up in excitement but did not find it here. The wine is beautiful, with detailed Chambertin nose of pine needles, cherry and red peppers, some meceration which we noted was like caponata, which could be signs of ageing. The fruit is still extremely pure. Less intense then the CSJ, when I had it a few years ago. Could go down too smoothly and you could miss the nuances. Maybe it is just a more elegant style, or maybe going through a muted phase. Could emerge with awesome secondaries in 5-10 years. I remain optimistic!

This was really lovely tonight. Followed over six hours. After 3 it was pure sweet serralunga fruit. Nose had dark cherry but also high toned minerality. Tannins were in a good spot and the palate was not overpowering. Long finish. No rush, and this will show a lot more with time, but was delicious after long decant.

Agree with previous tasters that this is a beautiful young wine. Light on its feet but still deep and full bodied. Cherry, herbs, medicinal, earthy, smokey. Was bracingly tart right out of bottle but softened and put on weight over 5 hours. There is an X factor in there too which keeps you coming back for the next sip but hard to define...like Rousseau burgundy.

Great showing on this. Took about 30 minutes to open up and was great for several hours. Subdued nose of red fruits with a zing of pine needles, tree bark, leather. Palate has integrated but retains some nice acidity and tannin. Pretty wine and holding up well for its age.

Nose was a hit oxidized. Showing maturity and (a bit too much) wet leaves. Palate was a nice surprise. Rich core of red cherry fruit and earth.

A huge surprise. Sweet pure mature fruit. Amazingly fresh for its age. Stood up to some very nice young wines and was a crowd favorite. Resolved tannins but still in balance. Impossible to assign a score....

This was signing tonight much better than my last bottles a few years ago. Maybe that was a bad bottle or maybe the extra age helped. Chalky, high toned citrus, Apple and lychee. Full bodied and well integrated.

Had with the 2013. Soooo hard to pick a favorite. On second day they were both signing. 2013 more elegant. 2010 richer with black fruit but still very smooth with earthy and herbal notes. Very long finish. Fantastic!

Had with the 2010 and followed over two days. Day one the 2013 was closed with firm balanced tannins. Day two it opened into lively and elegant cherry fruit. Great herbal, mineral, cedar backbone without taking away from the beautiful fruit. Delicious!

Strange showing here. Very ripe blackberry fruit with some medicinal qualities. Not characteristic of traditional Barolo in my book. Like high acidity Amarone? Maybe this is bottle variation? Had with the Cannubi which was much more typical. I’ll wait a few years to try the next bottle.

Had this with the 2010 Monvigliero. This was rough and tannic, with classic Barolo notes. Smoke and ash. Herbal and floral. Well balanced full body and acidity to match the tannins. Long warm finish. Difficult to rate at this stage. Lots of upside potential. Best to wait 5-10 more years.

Hard to believe this is 20 years old. It is textbook Barolo in a great spot and still not showing secondary notes. Nose is all tar and roses. Palate shows some cool notes with bright fruit, good acidity and potent tannins. Based on the condition of this bottle, it has 10 years+ left.

Followed over two days and better day Two. Nose of elegant oak, rich black cherry. And some intriguing straw and herbal notes. Closed compared to its potential. Palate is dense and concentrated. Long finish. A step above the other 2010’s we had tonight.

This has opened considerably over the last couple years. Was open for business after a couple hours. Classic tar and roses and a bit of burnt embers on the nose. Palate was tannic and acidic but great balance and sweet balsamic fruit. Seems to be entering its drinking window which can last a long time.

Soft musky scent of an old wine. Animal fur, old leather, bit of barnyard. Palate was gorgeous and a pleasant surprise. Ripe sweet fruits, very mature, still very very pretty and nothing offensive. Some tart acidity and a pleasant medium finish. Slow ox for 6 hours and didnt evolve much from the beginning. Would compete with much more expensive Barolo from the same era.

Agree with previous notes about the incredible nose of pepper, grilled meat, and raspberry fruit. Tart and savory palate which works for old world palates and will probably show more nuance with time in bottle. Got better with air until it was gone at six hours. A clear buy at this price point.

Aromatic nose of mint, herbs, grilled meat, burnt embers. Aromas still jump from the empty glass. Big tannin and big acidity, savory and sweet at the same time. Young and will improve with a few years in bottle.

I think this is more approachable than the Cannubi 06. Seems more touch of modern oak than her current vintages. Drinking well. Integrated black fruit, find tannins, wood and acidity. Some interesting floral notes on the nose. The palate and finish are delicious and long with good acidity.

Better than I remember last year. Interesting nose of pine needles, spice, cinnamon, lavender. Palate is rich and spicy with full body and good texture, and lively acidity which goes great with the rich fruit. Delicious and held up well next to 2006 Barolo.

Really impressive villlages wine! Followed over 3 days and was best on day 2/3. Nose of medium red fruits. Palate starts drier than I expected but emerges with beautiful sappy fruit with juicy acidity. I would say this is drinking perfectly if it wasn’t so closed on day one.

Dark fruits right out of the bottle. Pretty florals developed with time. Some earth, mushroom, barnyard. Nicely mature but still plenty of fruit left. Not sure it will get better. Darker fruit and Probably a touch better than the 2002 charmes.

This was completely shut down for the first 6 hours. Later on, and on day two, it was noble and refined and reminded me of Conterno's Francia in a cool vintage. Nose is classic and very integrated. Difficult to point to a defining characteristic. Pine needles, tar, tree sap, fall potpourri, cloves. Palate was sweet cherries, medium weight, balanced acidity and very refined. nothing out of place. Very long warm finish. I suppose this should be kept for 10+ years to put on weight and gain complexity.

Slow ox for several hours. Exceptional wine. Seems to blend positive elements of Burgundy, Bordeaux and brunello. Intriguing nose of elegant black fruit, smoke, dusty leather, all-spice and other herbs. Palate was velvet, not silk. Very refined tannins and a nice texture. Med-acidity, which is in balance. A really nice blend of grapes and styles.

Rich and opulent right out of the gate Became very pretty, pure, rose petals, violets after 3 hours. Went through a heavy phase but then lightened up. Palate is beautiful and refined with an underlying power. Spectacular!

Followed over 4 hours. Great nose of menthol, eucalyptus, underbrush, cherry and dark fruits. Tannins were surprisingly rough compared to my expectations. High acidity. Palate is not in balance and does not live up to the nose. Maybe it's the vintage or maybe will integrate in a few years.

Compared to the 2011 crus tonight, this seemed to be in its drinking window. Black fruit with some hints of chocolate. Rich but balanced. Less tartness than the 2011s. Enjoy in next 2-5 years.

Some residual sugar but great balance and it doesn't come across as sweet. Potent nose of lychees, lime. Delicious to drink on its own. Did not complement thai yellow curry as well as I expected...acidity seemed to clash with the food somehow. Would buy this again.

Had with the 2010. This was a touch lighter and fresher. Pretty red fruits with some darker spice like pepper. I expect the 2010 to develop more complexity and would drink the 2012 over the next 5 years.

Wow - this was just fantastic. Slow ox for a couple hours, but started signing before then and was hard to keep away from it. Then followed in decanter for the rest of the evening. Nose had strong balsamic and loads of truffles and earth. Palate was power and elegance with perfectly integrated tannins. It peaked about 4-5 hours with rich dark elegant texture that was outstanding. I wish I had more of these to drink now or hold for another decade.

My first 2008 Rousseau Chambertin. The wine is clearly in a different planet of finesse and elegance. The nose and palate left me speechless! Very classic burgundy flavors, with exceptional class. Nose was quite primary but with loads of spice, dark chocolate, pine cones, and an intense floral perfume that is difficult to describe. Palate is full bodied and has some tannins to be resolved, but goes down like silk. Very long finish. A huge surprise compared to the lesses Rousseau 2008's that I have tried. This must be as good as Burgundy gets in 2008...

Showing some development in last two years. Still delicious. Suave satiny texture. Extremely elegant with deceptive depth. Red fruits, cranberry, cherry pit, potpourri spice, sous bois. Very very long finish relative to its weight. Day two it had less fruit and energy than day one.

First impression is - wow - this is showy and delicious. Good acidity and minerality and potent apricot and tropical fruits. After a couple glasses it showed its sweetness. Minerality and acidity was retained, but less balanced. I put the last glass away for dessert!

First from a 6 pack. Very difficult to rate. The wine is stuffed with great potential. Nose has a subtle perfume underlying massive black cherry. Day two showed potent spice and amarone-like nose. The palate is elegant but not showing much flavor at this point beyond the potent black cherry. These is no harshness that prevents it from being enjoyable now, but would expect much more interesting with 5-10 years more age.

Notably more full bodied than recent vintages. This is a rich powerful Carema but retains a high degree of elegance. Captivating nose of menthol, pine needles. Lots of fresh forest aromas. Palate is powerful. Held up 4 days (and then was gone!). Could have lasted longer. I hope I still have some of these in 20 years!

Had with the 96 Montelena. Both were similar and drinking very youthfully for 21 years. Not really any secondary notes. Pavots had less herbal and some deep cherry and vanilla. Full bodied, med high acidity. Drinking really well now, but might have been better balanced a few years ago.

Much better than my last bottle which must have been flawed. Had with Peter Michael Pavots 1996. Very similar and both were drinking young for their age. Very little secondary notes. Montelena was more herbal and cedary. Fruit potent, tannins smooth, integrated and balanced. Nice finish. Perfect to drink now.

Had with the 2014 which was slightly preferred. Very pretty and classic nose of brambles, red fruits and chambolle perfume. Palate has some harsh acidity but is very pretty. Reminds me of a young 2008. Probably better to drink this young.

Exhibited the standard aged nebbiolo characteristics of dried cherry, leather, forest floor, mushroom. Presentation was a step above others I have had, with gorgeous texture, freshness and energy about it which was really exceptional for such an old wine. Finish was refined and balanced. Let it slox-ox in the bottle for a few hours and was good on day two also.

Had with the 2012 Vosne villages which was also forward and delicious. The 1er cru had a deeper core of fruit and more complex nose of black fruit, spice, herbs, with a touch of exotic. Palate was fruit forward but also showed a tight tannic side. Could be a sign of good development potential. Will show well to fans of big new world pinots...not that there's anything wrong with that! Try again in a few years.

Still young. Best on day 3. I love the perfume of violets, roses, lavender spice, wet stones and minerals. Dark cherry and cinnamon also, and that citrus note I noticed a few years ago. Palate is a mostly minerality at this point, but harsh tannins have softened. Wait 3 more years.
