2009 Comtesse Bernard de Cherisey Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Hameau de Blagny Chardonnay

Frustrating experience. Brought this to Kismet in Hollywood (thumbs up from the somm, whose list was almost 100% natural wines), and on the pnp it wasn't yet drinkable -- the diesel taste was overwhelming. After 30 minutes, there was nothing to taste except a gasoline/quinine combo, which wasn't fun. Our dishes had started to arrive, and this paired adequately with anything with sweetness to it -- spiced carrots, beets -- and really poorly with the more acidic things. My gf abandoned it after an hour, but I stuck with it. At the end of the meal, the petrol taste was gone but it was pretty hard to say what remained. The nose never came alive. I'm sure there's an excellent wine in here but the fickle gods of Burg decided we shouldn't experience it tonight. Oh well.

2013 Broc Cellars Counoise Eaglepoint Ranch Mendocino

How can a Mendocino Counoise be so revelatory? All I thought of while drinking this is "why have people been blending minuscule amounts of this for so long". This is deeply colored with a violet core & a light red rim. Explosive nose showing dark berries, meaty notes & loads of floral aromatics. Concentrated & rich, but never heavy. Like a Great Dane on a tightrope. Waves of fresh berries cascade over the palate balanced by beautiful acidic structure. The mid palate seems endless, silky smooth tannins add a fascinating layer. Absolutely beautiful wine.

We enjoyed this bottle, moderately priced locally at around $30+. Lots of earth. Light spice, smoke. Very enjoyable, plenty of texture but less integration. Good for a young PnP.

Nose: Baking spices. White pepper. Toasted cedar. Green/herbaceous/ vegetative notes.

Palate: Smoky & game meats. Soft cherry. Medium body, lighter color, yet detailed flavors.

2012 A. et P. de Villaine Aligoté Bouzeron

Recommended by Pavle at FnB in Scottsdale, a Kermit Lynch selection, great Aligote expression. Clear, concise, lightly mineral, citrus, floral hints. Bouzeron is a great QPR for those times when that other white Burgundy lightens your wallet. $64 at the restaurant, probably $25-30 retail. Paired wonderfully with a fruit and cheese plate.

5/27/14, 2:44 PM - This wine & vintage was on SommSelect on 5.27.14 for $28.btl w free ship on 3+ bottles. Great deal. Aligote is a Burgundian sleeper.

This was hardly worth wasting calories and alcohol consumption on. Innocuous, some structure, hints of what might have been fruit. not flawed (unless subtly cooked) just meh 82-86

K and L liquors has been promoting Lanessan so much, I've often wondered if they own stock in this chateau. I bought the 96, the 98, the 00, and the 01. Both the 96 and 98, previously consumed, were a big disappointment. They were both thin and tannic. I was about to give up on Lanessan and assumed I had been duped by K and L, when I opened the 01'. This was a wonderful bottle of wine. It was drinking beautifully and even my wife said it was one of the best bottles I've ever opened for her! This wine had plenty of life in it. Based on how the 98 tasted, I'm not sure I would wait on this wine for 3-4 years. The other vintages seemed like completely different wines. I bought a few more bottles of the 01'to drink in the near term. Would definitely recommend this wine.

2/8/13, 9:08 AM - I too noticed the push by K&L of the Lanessan but I have enjoyed 2 bottles of he 2001 and so purchased a case for everyday consumption. At $19.99 it is of great value. Thanks for your review.
