Blue fruits, hint of greenness...decent backbone here, a little astringent, opening up with some air, still fairly lean, modernish aromas

5/1/21, 6:31 PM - I didn't pick this one up, it was part of a Zoom tasting, but they person opening does live in Toronto so could very likely by from LCBO

BIG. plum, fresh diapers, oaky, chocolate; silky, big fruits and long finish.
  • AWBryce commented:

11/26/19, 6:11 PM - I didn't think it detracted from the wine, it's just a very particular smell (as in clean and just opened from the pack) and it was subtle

Very light (in terms of weight), brioche, lemon, faint McIntosh apples; palate is lively, acidity balances the ripe fruits on palate. Medium plus finish.
  • AWBryce commented:

11/25/19, 7:11 AM - I usually find Cristal to be a bit of a lighter style, it might add some weight with age, but the flavour profile will change as well.. definitely not disappointment, just observation. I thought it was drinking well as is

interesting, vanilla extract, red berry, earthy, dead wood. a bit advanced , but decent acidity, med finish.

10/26/19, 5:25 AM - I wouldn't worry if you consume it within the next 5-10 years

Petrol, citrus bomb, unripe nectarine. Chalky mouthfeel, mediocre palate, medium finish.
  • AWBryce commented:

1/21/19, 3:38 PM - Hmm, i thought it was okay... But definitely not their best effort, and definitely behind a lot of other Ontario Rieslings, but maybe it was just the bottle? I'm a big fan of anything else they make up to date

Gorgeous bouquet, great balance between the ripe fruit and high acid. Easily on par with many estates barolo.

1/4/19, 5:28 AM - Yes but in Italy where we tasted they are both much cheaper haha! But I am also a big fan of burlotto

Sweet red fruit nose, this shouts Merlot. A massive wine, ripe fruit long finish. Needs a decade or two.
  • AWBryce commented:

10/4/15, 4:29 PM - Yes, its an 80/20 blend. I found it unusual, but the nose was all sweet red fruit and almost no perfume/ flowers as I'd expect from a cab franc dominated wine.

Red sweet fruits on the nose. Still fairly structured, needs some time to flesh out.

Borgogno dinner (Bosk at the ShangriLa Hotel, Toronto): Tobacco and leather nose. Less acidic than the other vintages, which let the sweetness of the fruit shine through. Nicely balanced, softer and rounder than the others, but still has grippy tannins. My rank: #2.
  • AWBryce commented:

1/3/15, 2:09 PM - Sunny, just picked up a bottle that was reconditioned in 07, is this something to hold for a while or enjoy?

  • AWBryce commented:

Nose wasn't as opulent as some of the other young Tuscans, but this one was showing some nice liqourice. Sweet fruit and dusty tannin on the palate. This is nice but needs a lot of time.
  • AWBryce commented:

10/15/14, 1:58 PM - Undoubtedly. I have a feeling it will be hitting its stride in 2025 or just before then.

Rich gold colour. Mature, oxidized, nutty and yeasty nose. Based on previous notes, the palate may have mellowed somewhat: it's tart and dry but not excessively so, with good body and round mouth feel, and notes of toasted bread and underlying green apple. Fairly short finish. Paired well with sushi, but drank well on its own, too.

Just basic fruity Rioja, with no interest. No offsetting acidity or tannin or structure of any kind. Fruit juice. I cannot see 89 points for this wine. My tasting note says: "poor quality".
  • AWBryce commented:

2/15/14, 9:14 PM - Sorry to hear this, J. Thought it might be promising, especially at that price.

  • AWBryce commented:

Slightly subdued nose compared to the 05 le gay, but the taste was incredible. Ripe blueberry, some astringency, long finish and some grainy tannins.

Surprisingly approachable, this will be stellar to those who are patient.
  • AWBryce commented:

1/24/14, 9:15 AM - Perhaps I should've said 91+... Points are relative. I could see this becoming a 93-95 pointer, but at this point in time I thought it 91. Maybe my 91 is your 95?

Cherry and barnyard aromas, this seemed to open up with time. The palate was rustic, with grippy tannins, ripe red fruits and a medium finish.
  • AWBryce commented:

1/21/14, 7:17 PM - Hahaha, meant to type fruits! This what happens after a few drinks on a mobile phone.

A bit tough and young. Cedar, fresh oak (not toasty or vanilla, fresh oak wood), dark fruit.
  • AWBryce commented:

7/2/13, 8:13 PM - Any recommendations as to when to drink this? Do you think the oak will integrate with some time?

  • AWBryce commented:
