The 2005 Bruno Giacosa Barolo Le Rocche del Falletto di Serralunga d'Alba is a marvel to behold that will stir the emotions of any Nebbiolo lover. It is one of those wines that in the midst of tasting you visualize your loved ones throughout the world, and wish they were by your side to partake in its mastery. Superbly complex and unapologetically rich, this wine is so enjoyable now but has the stuffing for the long haul.

An hour of air helped here, adding more body, and depth. The wine offers layers of licorice, blackberry, dark cocoa, smoke and tobacco. Lush, round, sweet and juicy, this is quite sensuous. There is a minor touch of dryness on the backend, but you need to be looking at it closely to see that, as the wealth of ripe fruit is there from start to finish. There is no heat, or jammy notes. The wine is drinking very fine today.

From a perfectly stored bottle. Nice dark ruby colour. Wine is still very young showing a fresh nose with cherries, leather, wood, spices and hint of mint. Tannins are resolved and the wine is very enjoyable. Requires a considerable amount of time to open up. Full, ripe chewy tannins, with blue and red fruits and a long, mineral aftertaste. Wonderful balance and one of my favourite vintages from this chateau.

brick with tinges of orange on the rim - classic old Bordeaux nose of leather, tobacco and cassis - beautifully balanced mouth with just the right amount of residual tannins - nice long finish - perfect with grilled lamb chops - this wine along with the 96 Montrose and the 96 Pichon Lalande have changed my opinion of the 96s from just a good vintage to a great vintage that is drinking at its peak right now

Very nice for an '11, showing great balance, lots of dark fruit, velvety smooth and polished tannin, still has lots of time but very approachable now. Great stand alone wine or with a rich meat or barbq. The structure isn't massive but provides a nice frame, really interested to see where this goes in the next 5yrs or so.

dark red with brick edge - bright red fruit nose with cedar and lead capsule overtones (could have mistaken this for a Graves) - bright up-front acidity, tannins mostly resolved but still nicely in presence - medium body but nice long finish - for those who appreciate old Bordeaux, this is drinking beautifully now - should hold for many more years, but not sure it's likely to develop that much more than this

Extracted Dark red fruits, chewy mouth coating, currants, strawberry, raspberry, really amazing balance! This wine is great, every time I've had it and this producer just keeps getting better and better.

Beautiful inky deep purple color. Mocha, spice, blackberry, violets on the nose. Supple smooth, tons of dark blue and black fruits... that just keep going... some black pepper. Medium acid, medium tannins. Amazing mouthful that I just have to swish it around.

A Civilised, Tolerable Thursday? (Restaurante Cuenllas - Madrid): Feminine. Delicate. Almost breaking on the nose but still giving the best of itsself. Aromas to violets, meaty, ripe, floral. All very delicate and soft but well-defined. Initially, it is more masculine and reserved, but when opens it shows the well-known refinement and a fine kindness that does not leave you until the last drop. Some sediments. It has the potential to age another ten or twenty years. Always my secure comfort within Pomerol.

Femenino. Delicado. A punto de quebrarse en nariz pero todavía dando lo mejor de sí misma. Aromas a violetas, cárnicos, maduros, florales.

Evolving nicely... again, nose perfumed of lavender, cedar, anise, coffee... integrated now more than ever... plum, blueberry, anise, a little bittersweet chocolate... full bodied, sweet ripe tannins. Not overly ripe nor cloying. Ultra long on the finish. Just delicious.

Medium bodied, forward, early drinking style with a focus on dark red fruits and freshness which makes this great for tasting, while waiting for vintages like 2005, 2009 and 2010 to come around.

Full bodied, rich, concentrated and showing good intensity, the nose pops with smoke, licorice, cocoa and ripe black and blue fruits. There is a vibrant, fresh, polished center of juicy, sweet, black and dark red fruits that really shines. This has really improved since bottling and is one of the top Pomerol's of the vintage. For a wine of this quality from Pomerol, it's a steal in the marketplace!

The perfect example of classic, California Cabernet Sauvignon at its best. Sweet, fresh, red and black fruits, complex aromatics and a long, sweet, supple, round finish that leaves you with fruit and freshness. This is showing great today and could get even better. For a wine this good, I think it's still selling for a song.
