Tasted after a 3 1/2 hour decant. With a plan to drink over 4 days.
Medium ruby in colour with a garnet hue.
Lovely aromas of sweet tobacco, floral & black fruit.
On the palate, medium bodied black fruit, black cherry kirsch/blackberry, leather, slightly floral, a noticeable petrol/tar undertone, high acidity, high slightly angular tannins with a long finish to pepper, tobacco/chocolate.
This is fantastic wine with infinite aging/improvement potential!

7/8/22, 2:27 PM - chablis28 : sorry for delayed reply. Had lunch today with a friend who has a place in Canmore. We brainstormed and here’s suggestions.
Meals in Canmore Tapas is #1, also recommended Iron Goat & Murrieta's.
Golf courses, there’s multiple. Stewart Creek & Silvertip & the Canmore Muni. Nearby of course, Banff Springs & Kananaskis. Tough to get tee times, start now.
A walk along the Bow River in Canmore is lovely, and the Grassi Lakes hike is great.
Tons of hikes in Banff Park, recommended Johnson Canyon, Lake Louise Tea House & the Sunshine Gondola up to the alpine meadows, better be a nice day though.
Kananaskis hike recommended, Widow Maker Trail from Canoe Meadows.
    Have fun in Canmore!

Back to the Brunello. Night #2 tasted really good still, mostly black cherry kirsch & leather. Night #3 my palate was in no condition to evaluate.
The wine is very approachable on day #1 with a long decant. I bought 2 more bottles to age. Enjoy this wine!

Tasted after a 45 minute decant.
Medium ruby in colour with a distinct garnet hue and somewhat restrained aromas of earthy minerality.
On the palate, medium bodied red fruit, dried strawberry, dried red cherry, slightly herbal, a dusty minerality, medium acidity, medium soft tannins & a long finish to black pepper.
The acidity balances the tannins, seems a little lacking in fruit, but a definite expression of minerality & terroir.
Not sure if this needed to be consumed younger, or if it needs more cellar time?

5/12/22, 8:49 PM - It wasn’t bad, just disappointing. After recent reviews my expectations were high. It just wasn’t there for me. If the heel of this bottle tomorrow changes my opinion, I’ll amend my review. And I’ve still got one bottle left, who knows, bottle variation?

Tasted after a 2 1/2 hour decant.
Indicated blend is 60% Monastrell, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon & 10% Syrah.
Dark ruby in colour with lovely aromas of sweet black fruit, background oak, sweet earth & somewhat herbal/floral.
On the palate, full bodied black fruit, blackberry, cassis, blueberry, well integrated oak, herbal & earthiness with high acidity & high silky tannins.
Finish is long to black pepper & crushed gravel.
This is tasty, balanced, excellent wine!
Still lovely deep, rich flavour on night #3.

11/14/21, 12:13 PM - Thanks alohashirt for the recommendation on the 2019, unfortunately it’s not yet available in our part of the world. I’ve got a couple of bottles of the 2018, which I understand isn’t great, but I haven’t tried yet.

Tasted after a two hour decant.
Dark, opaque ruby in colour with aromas of pleasant herbal/vegetal, slightly earthy/oaky sweet black fruit & a hint of cured meat.
On the palate, full bodied black fruit, tart blackberry/boysenberry/blueberry, cassis, slightly herbal & earthy, smoked meat, with well integrated oak and medium acidity & high soft tannins. The finish is long to pepper & a crushed gravel sort of minerality.
This is lovely, balanced, complex wine that has displayed definite progress since my prior tasting.
The heel of the bottle still tastes great on night #2.

9/10/21, 7:30 PM - Thanks Killer, the flavour of the fruit in this Syrah is excellent, not a fruit bomb, but elegant & tasty. Cellar time definitely added.
BTW, I purchased a Chapoutier Hermitage Blanc earlier this year based on your tasting notes. Thanks again

Pale lemon in colour with somewhat restrained aromas of floral/blossoms & wet gravel. On the palate, bold flavours of citrus/lime/lemon, unripe stone fruit, blossoms, chalky minerality with medium lively acidity that transitions into a long spicy finish ending in a slightly oily mouthfeel.
This is complex & interesting wine at a very reasonable price point.

    2/28/21, 10:19 AM - You’re welcome.
I hadn’t tried Viognier before & this really opened my eyes.
If you try & like the Yalumba, an Okanagan winery called Black Hills makes a lovely Viognier. Cheers

Medium to dark ruby in colour with restrained aromas of black fruit & subtle oak/earth.
On the palate, medium bodied black fruit, tart black cherry, blackberry, background oak/cedar, high acidity, low-medium soft tannins & a medium to long finish ending in spice/pepper.
Nice bright cherry wine, but the 15.5% ABV is noticeable.

2/19/21, 6:38 PM - My wife enjoyed more than I did.
I was hoping for a bit more of a rustic style.
This wine came from the Opimian Society.

I agree with 12/30/2020 - CDT LIKES THIS WINE: description except I think it's a little young and will improve and add complexity with a little more age so I'm going to hold mine a while.
  • CDT commented:

1/18/21, 2:42 PM - Interesting, I hope you are correct. Could be bottle variation too. I’ve got one more bottle slated for consumption next year. Time will tell!

    Typo on points rating?

12/15/20, 1:03 PM - Makes more sense now.
I just purchased that wine yesterday on a friend’s recommendation and was disappointed to see the first review come in at 76.
I’m not a big Viogner fan so we’ll see.
