Floral and honeyed notes on the nose, with lemon as well. A fruity, demi-sec sweet body, with a tang of lemony acidity to keep it lively. Went great with apple and blue cheese stuffed pork chops.

A generous nose of cherries and tobacco. A pleasing, fruity body that finishes with good energy and typicity. After an hour, however, the structure starts to fall apart. More of a dinner party quaffing wine, not for long-term cellaring...drink up and enjoy!

Been a long time returning to this one…Violets, blueberries and dry forest brambles on the nose. A very concentrated body of sweet, red fruits and a backbone that drives into a long finish that is not tannic but very, very mineral.

A representative lighter-style chianti. A nose of cherries, light tobacco and leather. The body is smooth, balanced, more on the lightly acidic side, and easy drinking, still with light tannins on the finish.

Red qnd blue fruits on the nose; leather, too. A very pleasing, round fruit forward body with a very balanced finish - the tannins, acidity (mild) and minerality all in good order. A little tar on the finish.

Apple, lime, beeswax and a stemmy note on the nose. After some air and after warming up - the body has nice, plush fruit. The finish ends with a significant, lemony bite.

A slightly reserved nose - honey, apple, floral. But the initial sip - Wow - a veritable full-on fruit explosion! Nothing light or airy (or dry) about this wine. Apples, pears, Mandarin oranges in a strong-arm balance with honeyed sweetness, acidic backbone and strong minerality. Maybe it was the interaction with my body chemistry, but the harmony and intensity were amazing. A wine that jolted me out of my holiday preoccupations...and put a smile on my face...

Not the most extravagant nose, but ample enough: pencil shavings, creme de cassis, baking spices and some red fruit hints. A medium weight body revealed amazing refinement and finesse and an oh-so smooth palate and finish. Still some grip present in the silky tannins - went great with a tender, medium-rare filet mignon...

Blackberries, leather, clove and tobacco on the nose. A savory, medium-weight body that leads to smooth finish. A leaner wine, more of a lighter Bordeaux in style - pulled off nicely. Ready to drink now, especially with a juicy steak...

Definite browning of the color in the glass, with some cloudiness. Both ruby and tawny flavors on the nose and palate, weak finish. Waited too long on this one.

Tasted alongside a 2015 pinot from the Loire valley (Domaine Delaporte Silex) - strikingly similar wines - this wine had more of a cola and black cherry nose, and the tobacco-like tannins on finish of this wine have not had enough time to soften. I would definitely be interested to re-visit this wine in 5 years...could see a higher score.

I must admit - having never heard of this wine, I checked the cellartracker notes on this wine before ordering it at Herbsaint in New Orleans, although I'm usually a fan of all things Loire valley-related. I immediately realized how spot-on Karoline.Phillips was in her tasting note - Kudos!

I appreciated elderflower very prominently on the nose, as well as the pear and the smokiness. The body revealed juicy pear, and well-balanced acidity. The finish, in my opinion, was the highlight - super long with lingering minerality. Really enjoyed this one.

Violets, black and blue fruits and espresso on the nose. A concentrated, rich body with a soft, but definite structure. Very modern, California-like styling, but the Bordeaux pedigree is not at all hidden. In a great place right now, with gentle cedary tannins on the finish, just enough to hold up to filet mignon kebabs with a chimichurri garnish. Thinking 2008 is a somewhat underrated year for Bordeaux...

Grapefruit and melon on the nose. The palate evolves markedly as the wine warms up and gets more air - quite unassuming at first, it later opens up to lychee fruit and a strong resemblance to- “An Italian Côtes du Rhône blanc with a mildly lemony finish.”

I don’t usually comment on a wine’s color, but this wine is much brighter-colored than most Zins. There’s a Cabernet-like nose of black fruit, cassis, and just a hint of baking spice. A round body of generous, but really overly sweet fruit. I only imagined pepper on the finish…

Black and blue fruits, primarily sweet plum, on a generous nose. A round, fruity body with soft corky-oak tannins. While very clean and fresh, a bit of a shorter finish. A wine made to drink now, I doubt cellering longer would be of any benefit.

A very pleasant, easy-drinking wine.

Generous blackcurrant nose, with minimal oak. Fruit forward, round finish, mild tannins. Another well made Spanish wine that tastes like a decent California red, for half the price...

...however, there's hardly any Spanish typicity to be found...

At first, a very reticent nose, but after decanting for an hour, it opened up nicely. Strong blackfruit, cassis, cedar and mushroom cellar on a pretty typical Bordeaux nose. A very, very new world body - plump, round and fruit forward with red fruit joining in with the black fruit. Still structured, with a hint of tannins present on the finish. Still in its prime drinking window. So far, I’ve been pleased with all my 08’s…

"Good stuff!" said my wife...and most will agree wholeheartedly, if you like black fruit, savory flavors, layers of structure and a dark experience. Still very much Bordeaux-like. Ever-so-slightly starting to lose energy, with the alcohol tamed and tannins fully integrated. Would no longer wait on this vintage.

A strong nose of cassis, baking spices and a little ripe strawberry. A plush body, better served slightly warm, with fine velvety structure but drinking very easily right now. Savory, not sweet, with cherry and pepper on the finish.

More fruit than oak on the nose, primarily blackcurrant. A plush, pleasing round body and finish. Very new world. Bland, unfortunately. Not much of a backbone, nor do I anticipate it improving any more with age.

There's wonderful fruit peeking out, but sort of trapped in a burgundian style. Like Marilyn Monroe in the clothes of a near-anorexic fashion model...the result is somewhat disjointed...

Enjoyed over a whole evening...initially a funky nose with wet forest floor dominating, with hints of ripe strawberry and black cherry. After an hour in the glass...much more of the classic pencil shavings, with fresher-tasting ripe red strawberries and hints of floral perfume. A medium weight body, not so structured on the initial mouthfeel, but still plenty of dry tannins on the finish. Good minerality, but the finish is light on its feet (i.e. “great finesse.”) Went well with rare filets, after a few more years - pork, veal, fowl - all could pair well with this wine.
Spirits
A blended rye whiskey, with 20% corn whiskey as part of the total. 45% alcohol. Burnt toffee, cherry kirsch and a decidedly floral component to the nose. A robust body and quite the peppery finish. In my opinion - their flagship!

More balanced than previous years: Vanilla, lemon, and crisp apricot on the fruity nose. A seamless, smooth body of ripe fruit leading to a long finish with a hint of butter. Very nice!
