Just going over the hill.

8/8/21, 7:21 PM - Did you decant it for a few hours?

8/8/21, 8:33 PM - Hmm ok. Usually I agree with your that you don't want to give very old wines too much air, but in the case of old Piedmonte wines I have found they really need time. I have found that most of them need a minimum of 5 hours, and many times longer. But there is quite a bit of bottle variation and then of course storage and shipping conditions during the cellaring period.

95 points
I found this to be really sensational. Hints of apple, lemon, creme, mint, spice, with chalkiness and good intensity. This got better and better with more time in the glass, making me believe this wine still have many good years ahead of it. My last glass of the wine, about three hours after the bottle was opened was my favorite. It maybe doesn't have the power or super rich intensity of the Batard or Montrachet, but it has a good mix of intensity and elegance to it that is very appealing. As previous reviewer mentions, it is bottles like these that makes one forgive the sins of the premox problem in burgundy.

3/3/15, 9:43 AM - I had the '92 Ruchottes once about 3-4 years ago and it was spectacular, one of the great 1er cru white burgundies from the 90s decade. We had it next to the '95 Niellon Vergers and it wasn't even close, although the Niellon was a great wine in its own right. But this '02 Ruchottes may get there in few years. It will be an interesting evolution to watch, assuming I can keep my hands off my few remaining bottles.
