2019 Aubert Chardonnay CIX Estate Vineyard Sonoma Coast
Decanted two (2) hours. Displays intense aromas of apple, pear, lemon meringue, roasted nuts & warm brioche. Wonderful texture. An array of ripe orchard and citrus fruit flavors are united with notes of honeysuckle and marzipan placed upon mineral base. Well balanced, viscosity is leveled with active acidity that leads to long even finish. Just entering its drinking window and should reward well through the decade and beyond.

12/15/23, 7:18 AM - Thanks! Just noted that I'm on my tenth vintage drinking Aubert's wines and have to say it's been a magical ride. The wines are special and their evolution is just a joy to follow.

Wish I knew how to judge Chardonnay. This is really good, but can’t judge properly. Can’t give a score, but glad I had this.

Totally saturated cork under wax cap but perfectly intact and easily extracted. Totally transparent and almost watery faded damask colour… looks much older than a 1994. Nose is immediately high lifted piano notes of bitter orange marmalade but mellows within 2 hours in the glass into soft, perfumed musk, dried spices and rich dried red plums fruit. Palate is sharp, tart bitter orange marmalade with high acidity and light but very dry tannins but which segue into a cranberry sharpness but with a counterpoint of rounded confit plum and less dry than earlier. Really multi-dimensional and contemplative on the long, resonant finale. Gorgeous. No rush if you have this in your cellar but is fully open for business.93+

White
2015 Schäfer-Fröhlich Felseneck Riesling Kabinett Nahe
Fantastic classical riesling - just a hint of petrol on the nose to start, quickly replaced by beautiful lemony, white floral aromas. Backed up by the palate with some additional green apple flavors, great acidity that keeps the sweet fruit in check. Fantastic - I wish I had more.

As I sit here right now..... surely there isn’t a better producer pound for pound than Robert Chevillon. The only reason these wines haven’t gone to the stratosphere is the appellation of which there are no Grand Cru’s. This is the last bastion of Burgundy for as I write this the masses will come, eventually,as they realise the Rousseau’s, Roumier’s and even Raveneau’s are all out of reach. All the while the master of Nuits and Burgundy has gone under the radar.... for this Domaine is the equal or better of the aforementioned.

The palate has weight, and yet paradoxically remains light. There’s feathery tannins, and this sublime middle palate. The finish carries on for what seems like a very long time. Plum sauce, cranberries, stone, chalk, plumeria and lemon chicken. The body is full, with a lot of energy and tension. This shows so much care and transparency, with sooo much verve and stability. This sticks. Drink 2024 - 2036.

    Cheers.

Rosé
2020 Domaine Tempier Bandol Rosé Mourvèdre Blend, Mourvèdre
Same as last note, getting some hoppy Simcoe feel to it: Densely packed with loads of oily citrus, melon rind and tart red fruits on the nose, very expressive. Med bodied, acid forward, showing off that tangy-dank citrus/bergamot on the entry, moving to more melon rind and strawberry on the finish. Almost tannic in the mouth. This is great fresh, but has a long life ahead of it.

Very seductive sweetness, intermixed with spices. Very good intensity and focus, with touch of high class oak perfume. Loaded with darker fruits.rounded and elegant on the palate. It grows and grows, with just a touch of tannic grip suffered the young stage, and very nice depth, powerful long finish that still displays sense of restraint. A very very good wine .

2016 Domaine Huet Vouvray Demi-Sec Le Haut-Lieu Chenin Blanc
Takes some time to open up. Subdued aromas of quince, apricot, honey and lime zest. Layers of ripe fruit are offset with uplifting bright acidity. Richly textured and cloying. Surrounds the palate providing long clinging finish. Good now but should show much better with some time. Re-visit this in 3-5 years or beyond.

Been a while since my last visit with this one. Several changes worthy of note. Golden straw in color with distinct aromas of red apple, gooseberry, baking spice, white flowers and slight hint of petrol. Soft velvet-like texture on the palate with vibrant acidity that held up after consuming over an entire week. Long mouth coating finish. Delicious now and should be very interesting down the road.

2013 La Paulee, New York; 3/12/2013-3/14/2013: Deeply flavored, excellent balance, and a long finish. This is flat out gorgeous, too bad it can't be found here in the U.S.

A bit tight out of the gate, but all its charms became evident by the second night. Rich, lemon custard, light florals, and a pat of butter on the nose. The oak is very much dialed back, letting plenty of citrus fruit and minerality come to the fore, with everything well structured and balanced and delineated. No roundness or flabbiness here, but no angularity or austerity either. Superb!
