I think these are getting sweeter? Just a couple bottles left from a case, and we are getting farther away from Perrieres, and closer to Aubert? Kind of kidding, but kind of not. Maybe it's all that energy charged OR Chard I've been drinkin of late. Anyway...this is still top notch Meursault here! Sappy orchard fruits, with a drizzle of honey and sprinkled sea salt...SUCH pretty lime/white flower blossom florals...chalky crushed limestone...little more toasted marshmallow...precise and beaming with fresh juiced citrus...dry extract...very broad and mouth filling...even a little oily viscosity. I mean this wine is LOADED with flavor and Meursault-ness...I just wish it had a tad bit more Perrieres and less sweetness...but nitpicking I guess. Would love to try this one in 20 more years!

Last bottle of three purchased last year...ALL have been brilliantly bright and shiny gold with green...little reduction funk, crunchy minerals and salty dry extract...sea air...tart and creamy fruit...really drinks CHABLIS! Love it!

PnP...nice and LONG DIAM 30...13% happy juice...this is very bright and zippy right out the gate...summer crisp peach and apple fruits...little wafts of reduction smoke, white flowers, lemon zest...the fruit is SO pure and crystalline...there is a salty crushed minerality that is very pleasing...lick of salt before a lemon squeeze...really goes long and deep, then a puckering dryness and white pepper spice slaps you in the face finish...WOW...lot of energy and tastiness in this wine...should drink well for 10+, but mine won't last that long!

Can't believe I've almost gone through a case of these and haven't made a note on one? The wine is GORGEOUS! 2017 is the new 2014...little riper than the 14, but has the electric energy...loaded with sappy orchard fruits...apricot marmalade, butter sauteed green apples...super refreshing lemon tarts...showing some GC richness, yet sea breeze air lifts it up nicely...all the classics of a wonderful Chablis...crushed oyster shell, salty sea air, little iodine, chalky limestone...and my personal favs of spearmint wax and dry extract. I just can't ask for a better wine for the money when I want to "Chablis"!

VINTAGE 2010 Dinner (Galletto Ristorante, Modesto Ca.): Didn't spend too much time with this one...got a velvet smooth mouthful of dark blackberry fruit, dry fine tannin, ton of black olive tapenade, not much pepper spice...some va heat noticed...backwoods smoke, garrigue. Seems pretty mellow and monolithic right now...maybe more time will awaken. Didn't help the 10 Rayas was in the room as well.

VINTAGE 2010 Dinner (Galletto Ristorante, Modesto Ca.): Well, this was the oddball dud in the tasting. Fruit was rich and sweet candied orange, brown butter sauteed peach, some nice floral spices...white flowers...but had a creamed corn and asparagus thing going on...and it was paired next to the 10 Marcassin Marcassin, and made it stand out like a sore thumb. Too many great wines on this night, and this was kicked to the curb.

VINTAGE 2010 Dinner (Galletto Ristorante, Modesto Ca.): Love me some Marcassin! Sometimes you need a little wood spice in your life! After drinking all those Chablis and Burgs, I do miss drinking these. The 10 is wonderful! Rich and full of butter sauteed apples and apricots...lemon squeeze, citrus oil, pineapple, lifts it nicely. SO much complexities of smoked vanilla bean, toasted campfire marshmallows, butterscotch spice...plenty crushed rock minerality...flint strike...all well in balance, and a delectable mouthful of goodness!

VINTAGE 2010 Dinner (Galletto Ristorante, Modesto Ca.): This was up there with the Vatan as the most intriguing wine to drink. Slight heat at first, but air integrated it nicely to this WAXY pitted orchard fruit of goodness! Wonderful texture...more subtle than power...brightened with lemon squeeze and pineapple cut...apricot marmalade, honey, nice dry salt rock salinity...pretty blossom florals...age has brought out some lovely antique wax and lanolin oil...but plenty freshness and lift...really dug it as it got warmer in the glass. Liked it better than the 10 Rayas Rouge! Blend of 50-50 Clairette and Grenache Blanc.

VINTAGE 2010 Dinner (Galletto Ristorante, Modesto Ca.): This was decanted all day...darker and more sauvage, showing black cherry and Kirsch liqueur...some high toned blood orange acidity, dusty earth spice...the fruit not as "pretty" red as the 11 we had last month...still VERY intriguing complexities that kept coming with every sip! Wonderful perfume of florals of crushed berries...some white pepper spice, old leather...rhubarb and red licorice dryness...still has a lot of crushed rock and some tobacco...but that damn 2005 we had a few years ago still has me searching for that amazing red fruited elegance and haunting perfume...this 2010 seems more serious, and probably in need of many more years. Still, a true pleasure to drink one when you can!

VINTAGE 2010 Dinner (Galletto Ristorante, Modesto Ca.): This wine is GORGEOUS...and would normally be the standout on the table, but was bested by a couple Cali wines...the 10 Screaming Eagle and MacDonald! All three very similar...the PC was velvety smooth...dark berried fruit with dried concentration...creme de cassis, pencil lead, new leather, wood barrel spiced tannins...more new world with sweeter fruit, yet lovely licorice and graphite dryness...has that Bordeaux seamlessness, fine grained...super tasty and engaging. Loved it!

VINTAGE 2010 Dinner (Galletto Ristorante, Modesto Ca.): How good is this wine right now! SO rich and deep with flavor...the fruit is dark liqueured berry, creme de cassis, blueberry...very similar to the 2010 Screaming Eagle had next to it...rich soiled earth, graphite, licorice...integrated wood spice tannins, wonderful textured dryness...SO silky smooth and lush, yet a firm grip...great balance...violet florals, leather, mocha...endless complexities that were totally intoxicating! Seems to have a long life ahead. Just slightly bettered by the 100pt SE.

VINTAGE 2010 Dinner (Galletto Ristorante, Modesto Ca.): The most massive, loaded to the gills, SE I've ever had! Absolute perfection. The fruit is dark liqueuered berry, cassis...with mocha, leather, barrel smoke...wonderful graphite and licorice dryness...exotic dusty spices. Although massive, it still possesses a seamless plushness to the wine...a perfect balance...that classic SE finesse...SO much complexity and mind blowing joy! And scary to think it might even get better? Best SE I've ever had.

This wine was LOADED with exotics and crushed geology...huge citrus attack...ripe orchard and tropical fruits...banana skin ...exotics of quince paste, candied limes, lanolin wax, smoked herbs, wild honey...it was floral, it was salty, chalky...electric and SO fascinating! Was consensus white wotn, and my wotn in a company of a lot of great wines!

VINTAGE 2010 Dinner (Galletto Ristorante, Modesto Ca.): Cellared since release, splash decanted then open in bottle for 4hrs. What a treat to drink this unicorn! First off...14yr old Ca. SB...and it was fresh as a daisy! GORGEOUS nose of spring flowers, lemongrass exotics, little petrol...it had a softness that was very intriguing...lemon chiffon...plenty youthful sour tarts, but really low on acidity...not a lot of cut, but by no means lessened the wine. Exotic and tropical...gooseberry, white peach/flower...has that waxiness and salted minerals...a really calm and impeccably balanced, well made wine. Drank at peak form all night! A true pleasure.

decanted for a couple hours, inky extracted purple crushed fruit…SO plush and smooth for such a big wine, ala Petite Sirah, yet there is a tart cherry skin freshness that lifts the wine…gorgeous violet florals, tar reduction nuance, licorice…drinks well now, but better days to come.

One thing this wine tells me…I’m not scared of this vintage AT ALL! At least at Chez Rav! Gorgeous ripe orchard pitted fruits with a little tropical flare…some under ripe tartness at first, but air rounded it out nicely…super saline ocean air, crushed limestone, honey drizzled limes…wonderful Chablis florals, crisp and vibrant with energy…dry extract finish for days! Could drink this all day!

Last bottle a year or so was starting to show some mushroom and ox on the nose, but the wine tasted wonderful. This bottle smells just like the bangin bottle I had in 2019! FRESH and floral spring flowers, lime blossom, cold mint lemongrass tea, crushed rocks, little lanolin...WOW WOW WOW! In the mouth...has that Vatan geological party going on...salty limes, pineapple, gooseberry...exotic and energized with CUT and tart freshness! So floral and beaming with brightness...that salty minerality is crazy! I really don't see any age notes in this...maybe that lanolin note, and the perfect integration...every sip is just mind blowing good! LOVE IT!

Decanted for sediment, 14.2 abv(yay!) This wine has always been an acid bomb, not really drinkable, and last had a bottle 12yrs ago...it was brilliant! This bottle is the last in the cellar...showing a gorgeous cloudy cran cherry with slight orange rim color...nose of classic Alban tar reduction, crushed cherries/plums, dusty white pepper, menthol tobacco leaves, leather and old cellar. Captivating and inviting nose! SUPER alive and tart with that cranberry acidity...but well integrated with the meaty, sweet and liqueured cherry/raspberry/cranberry fruit...really red berried laser focused. Age has brought on some finesse...complexities like on the nose...love the menthol and leather...tart pucker of cherry sour tarts...and the nuanced integration of the earthy Alban tar...beautiful florals and smoky wood spice...but MAN...that tartness is wild! I dig this!

A late night grab off the list, just a brief decant before we all dug in. Needs WAY more air, and time! Jammed with crushed rocks and minerals...the pretty red berry, kirsch, rhubarb fruits had a hard time showing all its glory. Still signs of greatness...that translucent, sexy red color...floral and spicy nose of licorice, dried cherries/oranges, flowers, white pepper...super lifting blood orange acidity...little thin with all that crushed rock, vintage...and just a tad bit of heat which went in and out as white pepper and alc. You can tell how classy and singular this wine is...just needs more time or big air to really shine. A real treat when you get to try one none-the-less. +pts

It's been awhile since I've had a GC Leflaive, and a young version at that. Really looking forward to trying this one and it was a beauty! First nose..."DAMN SON...is this an Oregon Chard" I jokingly called out. Beautifully clean match strike reduction with a hit of citrus, dried candied fruits, caramel corn...Mmmmmm Leflaive! So rich and intense with flavor, yet there was this crispness and weightlessness to it. Bright and energized lemon/tangerine citrus squeeze...tropical grilled pineapple, sauteed apples...again with all great chards for me...that dry extract, the white flower, crushed rock minerality...salty and waxy...such purity and balance...elegantly full bodied. I just loved it! Wish I could put this in my current tuesday weekly rotation! ;-)

This was the nose of the night! GORGEOUS berry pie, mult colored cracked peppercorns, flower florals galore! On the palate however...MAN did this thing just want to put its head down and go straight as an arrow! Tight and not wanting to peacock at all! I don't believe we decanted this?...but we should have. Drank on it for 6+hrs(24 other wines to drink too) and I do believe some said it started giving up some grip by the end of the night. Just loaded with El Capitan granite minerality and laser beam acidity. From what I did get was killer liqueured crushed berry fruits, saline olive, blood iron, smoked cherry wood exotics, that friggin pepper and florals...such pureness and exotics...I just kept wanting it to explode and blow the doors off...I had it potential wotn, but it just wouldn't. Potential for perfection...I just hope I can try it again when it's ready to party! +++pts

Open in bottle for 7hrs, decanted for 20min...once it got going, this wine was humming all night! Little darker with deeper exotics that need more age to release...needed some coaxing and all that air time...super smooth and seamless with ripe crushed dark cherry and strawberry...blackberry...lively vein of cherry skin sours...deep and intoxicating with damp forest, earthy mushroom, leather, coffee...together with the sandalwood/oak barrel spice exotics and dried flower florals...every swirl and whiff would bring out more complexities and intrigues... just exudes pure class! Had with the 2020 as well, and that one is shut down and in need of sleep. 2012 has more room to roam for sure! +pts

Awwww Don't you just love it when you open an aged white Burg and your first whiff from the bottle is all fresh sea breeze and lemons! This wine is drinking amazing right now! Open in bottle for 7hrs, with a 20min decant...GORGEOUS shimmering gold and green color...some sea funk, lemon blossom, tropical wax fruit, iodine, chalky limestone nose...initially the bright citrus acidity was very prominent and somewhat piercing...but it creamed up nicely to GC weight class and everything just cuddled cozy together romantically! Perfectly ripe orchard fruits with energized citrus...the classic Rav waxiness and slight spearmint...chalky crushed oyster shells and powdery limestone...dry extract and exotic florals for days...I just LOVE the feel in these wines! Also had with it the 15 MdT which drank classic and even keel...slight rounded...and the 14 Monts Mains which started out tight and coiled, but that sucker gained and gained with that 14 vintage big block and almost bested the Blanchot! Wines like no other...LOVE them!

Drank through a wonderful stash of the 2000 I purchased 15yrs ago, and this is the first go at a 2001. Gorgeous deep and shiny gold with green tinge color...little funky on the nose with reduction, frog pond, canned peaches, apricot marmalade, wood smoke, salty sea air. Some air did the trick...really rich and full bodied in the mouth...loaded with salt water taffy, sauteed apple, exotic honey butter...creamy, yet CUT and fresh with some lemon squeeze and green apple skin. As with the 2000, shows WONDERFUL dry extract and waxiness...crushed sea shell marine minerality...limestone...dried flower florals. This is definitely richer than those 2000's I had...showing more honey and oak, but still retains a Chablis sense...and in no way over the hill! SO satisfying and a true joy to drink. LUV me some aged La Chablisienne!

Intrigued by the HUGE scores these wines are getting, and my recent affinity for what's going on in the OR with Chardonnay...my first Tan Fruit wine, and my first thought was..why the hell put Chardonnay in a brown glassed bottle??? Already looks poxed! The wine, however, is far from poxed. Shows that wonderful bright and sappy pitted orchard fruits with a little tropical tinge...chalky minerality...salted limes/pineapple...classic dry extract...sugar cookie...not the reduction you find in others...some mint, dried honey, and pretty flower blossoms...but my initial impression with this wine compared to the Walter Scotts/Morgen Longs/Goodfellows is that it seems a little watered down? Has the same somewhat profile as the wines I've had from the others...but it just seems kind of mellow and dilute...not as expressive and "popping" as the others have shown to me. Still a joy to drink...very pleasing and showing OR Chard magic...but those darn 97-98 scores jaded me...and this particular bottle doesn't live up. Great wine...keep pricing around $40, and I'm a buyer! Change the glass color though...

From Joel's Library sale...decanted the sediment out and poured back in bottle...gorgeous nose of sweet cassis, cherries, mint, leather, humidor, old cellar dust. Very healthy looking with redberry prominent...still has a tannic/oak bite to it...dusty white pepper and oak barrel char...little heat poking out(14.5) but not off putting...the fruit is hanging in there...showing more zinberry than claret, which you see happen with quality aged zins...love the "rednesss" in this...raspberry cherry liqueur...licorice...really getting even more intense zin-ness with air...seems like it could go 30 more years no prob? LIKE it! Not the elegance I thought I would get with the age...still quite savage and rustic...but the flavors are fantastic...and it gives great pleasure knowing that the bottle went straight from the maker to my glass!

These are gorgeous wines! Starting with the color...shimmering gold with green tinge...nose of subtle reduction match strike, salted vanilla honey, sea air, fresh peach, apple pie. No spritz in this one, splash decanted...SO pure and crystalline with sappy orchard fruits...little tropical weight with some mango...creamy and waxy with killer texture...yet bright and energized with citrus sours and pineapple tingle...has that dry extract that I love...finishes long with spice and floral jasmine...smoked grey salt, with a fresh squeeze lemon hit. From the cool labels, the green glass bottles, and the DIAM closure...this is first class stuff all the way!

Lol...this wine is SO freakin interesting! Been 10+ years since I first had it, and now sadly my last bottle. This is totally a Chardonnay only John Alban, or Manfred Krankl, could make! Still reminds me of The Petition by SQN...hot buttered rum spice, rich and tropical pineapple and apricot...exotic spiced, Roussanne nuttiness...creamy and full bodied, yet there is a nice lifted lemon/grapefruit/tangerine squeeze of acidity that totally CUTS the richness beautifully. It was crazy high toned last time...age has mellowed it and integrated it well. LOVE the waxy texture and salty, smoky crushed limestone minerality...the Roussanne honey butter and nuttiness..if blind I would totally guess Roussanne. But that crazy citrus makes you think other varietals are in play here. Finishes long and creamy with smoky nuanced oak...buttered rum exotics...and super puckering sours...all so satisfying in a "drink something different" kind of way. LOVE THIS!

Well that didn’t last long…so much for aging these out a bunch of years…2018’s all gone! Drinkin my last bottle now…I keep chasing that amazing nose from the first bottle, but I was never able to get there in these others. Might be slumbering…more muted and showing more green hay bale. Palate is tight as well…probably will open up in a few hours but I’m thirsty. Still has wonderful Zin-ness…gorgeously silky and red fruited…exotic spices and florals…just not “popping” like it did right out the gate! Hold these…I’ll look for them at auction in 5yrs.

Bitter sweet...my last 2010. These Borg's are SO Chambolle satisfying on the cheap...it's too bad they aren't produced anymore. The 10 is still gorgeous...pretty cloudy redberry color...looks like fresh pressed fruit! Silky translucent laciness fruits of cranberry, cherry, and wild strawberry...some bright and tart blood orange sours...more integrated sous bois...not as "dirty" as last bottle...just KILLER pretties of raspberry jam, cherry blossom, tilled strawberry fields, red licorice...everything is SO subtle and elegant...not the most complex or showboat kind of wine...just a relax and simple living wine! Tasty and easy drinkin...just love um!

Shows a wonderful purity and subtlety…I’d drink this all day long if I could!

Big fan of these wines back in the day...this 06 has always been very high toned, tart, and stemmy. Today...it's INTERESTING! Has that raspberry puree tartness...very youthful looking and brightness...chocolate covered cherries, wintergreen tobacco leaf, licorice dryness...yet there is this intriguing "aged wine" sous bois-ness that plays mind games with the seemingly youthful fruit? That's really the only excitement, as the fruit drys out quickly and gets stemmy, and there really is not much complexity...but that interplay of youth and age is very interesting...and makes the wine worth my attention. I think these wines are better served in their youth imo...but I am by far no expert in Argentinian Malbec.

I've had this bottle in the cellar for 15yrs, looks like it was part of the 1986 Napa valley Wine Auction (lot #243) and I know nothing else about it. Saw some seepage coming from the bottle, so decided to open it. The cork was totally saturated and mushroomed...smelled of tca? Not a good start! Decanted the wine...garnet colored with definite aged orange rim...no tca on the nose...very tertiary with sous bois earth, mushroom, and tobacco wrapper...some cherry and decayed strawberry...very nice mulled wine spice and some mint. Fruit is savory and still alive, yet shows it's age...soft silky texture with very little structure left...some nice tobacco and cedar dust spice...old cellar mustiness...some faint cranberry orange sours...not the most pleasing flavors to me...seems to be showing its age...and a wine that wasn't made to age in the first place. More intriguing than good...some others who like aged wine might like it better than me.

I LOVE these wines from Turley...the Hayne is so distinct with its elegance and floral/spiced perfumed red fruited goodness! This 19 is still quite young and showing some heat...they tend to become more elegant and balanced with age...very punchy tart and fresh crushed, candied liqueur red fruits...big kick of white pepper spice, red licorice dryness...pretty perfumed florals of dried flowers, cinnamon stick and xmas fruit cake...shows a silky smooth texture with some youthful tannic spice poking out...this will all integrated nicely with more age. Not as open as it could be right now...little mute in the mid p...needs another couple years imo...but should be a beauty around the 10yr mark. Turley Zin's are my comfort food wines like a good mac-n-cheese...the Hayne just gourmets it up with some shaved truffles! +pts

Silky smooth and bright raspberry, cherry, boysenberry fruits...not as high toned and spicy with volcanic dirt as the 14 was...creamy and more subdued...subtle pepper spice, smoked meat, leather, garrigue...that wonderful crushed volcanic rock and saline minerality...red licorice dryness...really creamy and in CdR mode...easy drinkin and totally crushable! And LOVE that this is a current release from the winery!

Been 11yrs since my last crack at this one...very pretty red raspberry, orange rim color...dusty old cellar oak spice, plum liqueur, kirsch, dried flowers, licorice, leather, slight heat nose. Ripe fruit/vintage for sure...showing some Port-like intensity and elevated abv...yet there is plenty of blood orange and cherry skin sour acidity to lift and brighten...has wonderful dried berry fruits...tar and white pepper spice. Drinks polished and nicely integrated, then you get the Italian pucker and dryness on the finish. Florals of an Italian harvest...Super tasty with a Tuscan steak!
