Love the nose roses and cherry blossoms and old world style, light body, full and robust taste beyond its eight. Cherry, iron and flint, with slit dusty tannin.

Hold 4 more years

This isn't my cup of tea at all. The vanilla heaviness and low acidity made it feel overripe and cloggy to me.

Edit: Better after several days yet nondescript.
  • Skrutt (Formerly RotHead) commented:

10/14/23, 2:58 PM - Haha, funny you should say that, because I often choose between cloggy and sticky, the former being somehow heavier and obstructed, though, yes like a clogged drain. ”Viscous” would be the a similar but positive word.

This is a big step down from Beckers more illustrious cuvee's thin, poor taste, little nose and to honest a waste of money, they do themselves no good by putting wines like this on the market when theyare capable of so much better.

3/30/23, 1:44 AM - ”There is a whole world of wine out there”, we sometimes hear. Now I’m thinking it should be taken literally. For if this is a bad wine there must be another Earth nearby with extraterrestrially good wine. Congrats on finding it.

There we go. A long airing relaxes the wine and eliminates the fizzy impression that in my view does nothing but stand in the way of the proper flavours. Still a bit green though.

Decanted for a few hours, prepared some locally produced entrecôte and had a really good time. Some say 2019 is the best L-B ever made. I don’t know, but I DO know I love this stuff! 95p+ easily. I need more…

No detailed notes. Elegant yet intense, light and airy Auslese #06 with great balance already. Of course it's sweet, but it is nearly completely hidden by its minerality. Complex, deep and lingering palate. 5/13/19/10. 97-98 from the WA, 97 from Suckling, 18,5 from Vinum and 97 from me. Unbelievable stuff. For me ready to drink. -2050+

Took a bit of time to settle down - on the nose it was seductive from the outset, with buttery wood and clear fruit matching each other, but I found the taste a bit too bitter initially (sometwhat like putting perfume in your mouth although not quite as bad as that). This bitter impression subsided in a day or so: So inviting and soothing on the palate, it's at least 91 points!
  • Skrutt (Formerly RotHead) commented:

3/11/21, 4:58 AM - Yes, precisely. I’m not usually sensitive to bitterness but here I clearly liked the wine better after two days (which amounts to an involuntary decant).

  • Skrutt (Formerly RotHead) commented:

3/11/21, 7:55 AM - I also felt that the temperature should not be too low. I don’t want to encourage freshness in a wine like this, which I believe a low temp. does. I like the fruit to really pan out.

At B&B PP. Screw-cap. Drank over 2.5 hours.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aroimas of floral ripe stems, fresh dark red cherries, black cherries, smoky toasty wood, muddy earth. Developed.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium- alcohol (12.5%), sleek medium tannins, medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of peppery spices, ripe stems, dark red cherries, black cherries, savoury muddy undergrowth earth, rocky minerality, smoke. Long stemmy finish.
Very good quality. Very balanced New World Pinot. Whole bunch stems usage apparent. Early drinking style. Drinking well now already, no need for extended ageing.
A lot more enjoyable than the score suggests.
10 months in French oak barriques, one-third new.
Tolpuddle Vineyard is in Coal River Valley in Tasmania. Cool maritime climate.

The nose was dark and wild mix with of both sweet and savory spices, peppery herbs, hints of olive and black fruits. On the palate, I found soft, lifted textures, offset by mineral-infused black fruits, peppery spice, cooling herbal tones and slow mounting tannins. The finish was long with staining black fruits, minerals and spice, as resonating acids tingled on the senses, tapering off to reveal fine tannins.

This wine needs decanting and a significant period of being opened before its glorious barolo flavor will be manifest. Even with an hour post decanting the wine was drinkable but not interesting. After two days under vacuum its character had completely changed. It was bright, vivacious with a very fruit forward flavor. The color was dark red. The bouquet on opening the bottle was noticeable. It did not taste particularly tannic. I would suggest opening and decanting about a day before drinking. Our goal was not to let it sit for two days but that just happened. I would think that a day would be enough to let it open up.
  • Skrutt (Formerly RotHead) commented:

1/19/20, 1:45 AM - Interesting review! However, I do not understand the phrase ”under vacuum” in this context. Do you mean that the cork was put back? Actual vacuum wouldn’t be possible - or even desirable, right?

Both Bürklin-Wolf Riesling Trocken and Wachenheimer Riesling takes you to this page, so is it the same wine? I'm guessing the label has been changed to "Riesling Trocken" in recent years, while the wine remains identical. Can anyone confirm or set me straight?

Certainly a top quality NZ Pinot that seems to improve every year, but given the latest price increase ($50 as opposed to $43 for the 2011 vintage here in Norway) the list of good alternatives has expanded quite a bit. Ren och fin frukt med både jordgubbar och hallon. Hyfsat fin balans med lakrits i eftersmaken. Inte speciellt komplext men utan tvekan ett prisvärt vin

I really tried to give this one a chance. Opened and poured a glass, got industrial cleaners on nose and palate. Poured through the Vinturi into the decanter and swirled it a lot. Things barely got better. It tastes like industrial cleaner. There is no indication this is Pinot Noir. If there is any saving grace, a lot more swirling reveals a cherry, cranberry fruit with typical tannins, that is still swimming in cleaning fluid.

2/18/16, 12:19 PM - Industrial cleaner just doesn't cut it as a definable smell or taste. Are you referring to some added perfume or - which I find hard to imagine - a chemical detergent as such?

Needs 6-8 years. Great potential 92-95.

No complexity to speak of, but reasonably ripe and fresh red & black syrah fruit, liquorice and herbs - the nose well mirrored in the mouth. If you had this by the glass at a bistrot you probably would say "decent house wine". Might be a tad more interesting with some development, it seems to have enough stuffing and acidity to keep for a few years.

7/29/13, 4:06 PM - Time for a new vintage at our very own sb. I actually found 09s and 10s side by side today. This needs to stay below 100 crowns for me to buy it.
