A real surprise, even for a seasoned Rhône amateur. Massive, jammy red fruit, paired with exuberant sweet spices, plum, chocolate and port wine notes. Full bodied, deep, extracted. A hedonist bottle that easily drinks by iteself, but would pair well with gem, a Tajine or a lamb shank. Drink now and over the coming 3-5 years.

Straightforward CC, with the typical herbal, liquorice and tomato-blossom perfumes framing young, fresh red berry aromas. Price-quality ratio still OK. Worthwhile tasting the Riserva (2015), with a similar aromatic spectrum, but benefitting from more mature red berries, toffee, chocolate and roast aromas, resulting in a distincltly more complex wine. The price-quality ratio is also still OK, but let me insisit that a furher unabated increase of Italian wine prices (as observed in recent years) will sooner or later backfire!

Very elegant and complex, blending honey, vanilla, flint and delicate floral notes, underpinned by the right dose of cask aromas.

Still a pleasant and versatile white Graves, but much lighter than in past good vintages. Exotic fruit paired with quince, rhubarb and a fresh, mineral ending, but less aromatic intensity and more acidity. My ratings in the past were higher .. never change a winning team.

Alas my last bottle. Fully matured, this expressive and dense Corbières confirms the potential of wines from the South West. Dark and intense palate of cassis, licorice, dried fruit, garrigue, toast aromas, cocoa, framed by charming sweetness and exotic spices, with a fresh, long finish. Drink now and over the coming 2 years.

Really a shame, because behind the cork taste we found a wonderful, fully developed Lagune. Seems like this fellow finally wakes up.

Classic Bordeaux nose, black fruit, vanilla, tobacco, ink. Medium bodied in the mouth, mature fruit, tobacco, hints of chocoloate. Evolved positively over last two years, but I still miss aromatic intensity - something I often note for 1995 left banks. I remain optimistic and will revisit in another two years, which is little time by Pontet's standards.

Second bottle of my case, two years after a first test. Nicely evolving and in line with great expectations about this excellent vintage. The nose is opening - fresh fruit and a menthol touch. Medium bodied, well structured, with lots of fresh, concentrated fruit, leather, liquorice, with a herbal and mentholic finish. Just about to enter its drinking window, so don't rush!

Cherry, cassis, cedar, herbal notes and tar in the nose. Medium to full bodied, dense and complex in the mouth: mature red berries, leather, liquorice, cinnamon, menthol, pine, with an etherial finish. Although this wine has lost a bit of its exuberance and concentration of earlier bottles it still provides a sensual drinking experience. Drink now and over the next 2 years

Atypical Amarone, lacking the phenolic/portwine "boost" provided by pre-drying some of the grapes. Also already in decline, with overmaturation amd madeira tones. Very mature red berries, toast, plum, pepper, garrigue.

This youthful and fresh Syrah is less expressive than typical for SA syrahs. Some may criticize this, I appreciate this bottle's food pairing flexibility. Crispy red berries, menthol, bell pepper notes and some spices in the background. I will give it another 2 years to round some edges.

Much Bourgogne typicity, charming bouquet with strawberry, raspberry, and floral notes. Medium bodied, elegant palate, with fresh but mature red berries, subtle cedar, cocoa, plum and vanilla notes, with a fresh menthol finish. Still early to judge, but I expect this bottle to further improve over the coming 5 years.

If you look for a reason to buy a classic, almost old school Bordeaux and patiently endure two decades of patience - then here it is. In perfect shape, just entering its drinking window, but built for another 20 years. Elegant, perfectly balance and complex, with smooth, ripe, creamy cassis, leather, tobacco, chocolate, toffee, cedar, walnut. Tannins still present in the background, but nicely mingeling with phenolic notes and cedar, promising perfect (further) ageing.

The finish is a bit short, but that won't stain an overall enjoyable drinking experience. Drink now and over the next 3-5 years.

If all of my bottles were "climaxing" like this I would be a happy man. Impeccable, subtle nose of lavish, noble leather, cedar, tobacco. Medium to full bodied on the palate, subtle, complex, elegant. Mature cassis and raspberries, tobacco, plum, cedar, leather, nicely contrasted by roasty notes and phenolic sweetness. Amused to read experts recommending "drink after 7 years". Complete nonsense.

Deep coloured, almost black. Intense, powerful nose, of very ripe cassis, garrigue, tar and ink. Full bodied on the palate, dominated by mature black berries, figs, liquorie, ink, tar, rosemary, tea, roast and forest floor aromas. Impressing density, but choose your food paring wisely to balance this muscle wine. Drink now and over the coming 3 years.
