- Ruby color - Great mature wine. Leathery, sour cherries, rose water. Super rich, very long Finish. Just doing great.

7/31/13, 5:56 AM - I'd say it is pretty far along - no drying from the tannins, secondary flavours are rich, acidity is under control. I've opened 4 bottles recently - 3 of them were at the front end of a long peak (drinking well but with several years left), one was past its prime.

If I had 2 I'd open 1 in the next 12 months, then the second in 3-4 years.

I'm usually a fan of still ports but this wine was outclassed significantly by the 05 L'aventure "estate cuvee" we had alongside. Despite the obvious varietal and technical components of these wines, this Dao seemed insipid by comparison, with more confection and less nuance (the nose was entirely oaked, and the vanilla components in the palate were more towards cloying than refined). Still always fascinating to have still port, but much better wines and half the cost.
