Very odd with super intense cherry and slightly tart boysenberry flavors with some inky licorice thrown in. I think it needs a few more years to both mellow and expand but was fun now with tons of aerating.

Inky black red color, dense almost licorice flavor but surprisingly smooth and long dark fruit finish with hints of mineral and smoke. Drinks great now

Drinks exceptionally well at this age for a tempranillo, which has aged into a smokey, complex, meaty red but with surprising distinct red and black berry fruits and a hint of that spicy-smoky berry from the 15% gratiano in it. Its my oldest Bodegas in the cellar but its an age worthy marvel. Medium finish though its quite balanced. Drink now.

Wine has picked up mineral and blue fruit flavors, almost petite sirrah like with nice beam of pencil lead in the finish.

the half bottle I drank the next day was much more open flavorful. So it can age some more, but quite nice now with aeration

What stands out in this wine is the pleasant and overt smokiness and balanced oakiness. Im guessing the Tempranillo has the fleshy notes, but the graciano is adding this wonderful natural dark fruit and oak-smokiness to round it out. Its 2013 and tastes perfect now.

The picpouls are really coming along in California. The vines (since TC introduced them from France a few years back) are getting age and making very interesting, fleshy and spicy rich wines. This reminded me of a bright yet rich and spicy viognier. Excellent example.

Great flavors of strawberry and cherry cola with earthy-minerals worked in. Fine balance too. Drink now or soon.

After reading on the wineries site that this vintage is ready I opened and poured: Great balance of dark and red berry fruit with very slight smokiness that tasted the same and was full bodied. Finish was smooth, long and complex with nothing feeling over ripe or over aged. Felt ripe and fleshy with almost a baked strawberry flavor mixed well with light forest floor notes. But do drink in the next year or 2.

Really impressive syrah and petite syrah blend: Very vivid spicy strawberry and rich velvety tannins made for a full bodied, round and smooth finish too. It had just the right amount of smoke and earthy tea to balance the fruit out.

Drinking exceptionally well. Could even have a couple more years to go. The nose is sweetly oaky, complex, forest and mushroom, maybe a tad slaughter house... But the flavors are red cab fruit, red currant and continued flavors of smoke and pencil lead that you got in the nose as well. Beautifully long finish. Its the 5 Bordaux varietals but it just says "paso robles" so I assume they barrel selected the best to blend.

This last bottle got lost in the cellar. Intense nose of oak, smoke, earth, foresty notes but on the pallet... wow: all of the good funky stuff in the nose but ALSO blue and red fruit still there to balance it out. Very smooth and balanced long finish. Some red currant in the dense earthy-complex notes make the wine really sing. My spouse served it blind at first and I thought it was a Chateau Montellena but one of the better bottles because of the fruit and balance. Stunning end to a great winery (for me, and my cellar). Drink now.

This wine opens up nicely after a day in the refrigerator, partially drank. Its was a bit too simple on opening but day 2 the spicier flavors came out with an intriguing saline quality and texture.

Everything I'd hope for in a petite syrah with that Tobin twist of extra oak and smokey extract. Works well in the Petite. Its still just this side of jammy so the bright beam of fruit is still intense.

A crowd pleaser in the TJames style of full bodied, rich, oaky-smoky reds. Has a nice beam of red fruit too.

Simply amazing: Super smooth and refined, just a small bit of velvety tannins but the red fruits over blue dominate (quite surprised) this mostly mourvedre blend GSM. Warm strawberry and cooked pie cherry with lurking forest floor and spices way beneath. Very fragrant on opening and still got better over 3 hours. Drinks perfect now, would be a fun stunner comparing French Rhones to this and it will be fine over 2 years, probably more.

Very, very light red wine in color and texture. It easily could have been the twin of a deeply colored rose from the same area. But still pretty, though the light fruit had a tawny, almost cognac quality and flavor. I assume if I look up the year it was a difficult one for this varietal in that area and this is the best they could make from this 2016 vintage.

Lots of good things in this wine except for a mid pallet lively dance on the tongue but then it smoothes out again in the finish. Great nose, super nice flavors of smooth mendo-strawberry on the entry. So overall, pretty good, was probably better a 1-2 years ago.

Big nose of pie cherry and cinnamon, but the flavors are more strawberry compote as is typical of Santa Maria. Full body, long finish, really great bottle.

Its was quite neutral right at popping, so I corked it overnight and it finally opened up. It has light melon flavors, very mild spice too but the texture was full and viscous though the mild in taste. It might get more complex in a couple years but its lovely now.

Sour pie cherry dominates, about too sour. But the SRH smokey notes are pleasant. I think a couple more years in the bottle is needed.

Very good example of Wente chardonnay grapes but balanced with a lot of honey and citrus with the classic fig and nuttiness from Wente's in the SMV area. Would have improved for a couple of years too.

THE most buttery oaky wine I've ever had. Most Tobins have toasty oak that is well matched with fruit intensity but this Syrah is an oddball... a tasty oddball for sure, but once you get past the nose of warm, sweet oak, then the buttery oak on entry, the syrah spice and red fruits come thru and a very nice finish. I wonder if this was just the wines from this barrel or if all this bottling has it, but thanks for pleasant quaff.

I held it too long, way past its window. Fruit is gone, a pleasant light mouthfeel that turned a bid acid in the finish. Very musky and woody, dead rose notes in the nose. Almost good, if it had some more complexity or slight fruit left in the tea-like finish.

Drinks great now, should hold and even improve over 2 more years. Nice balance of burgundian complexity mixed with baked cherry fruit and an underlying smokiness throughout. Finish is a bit lively but it smoothed out after an hour.

Very fragrant at first opening. Taking on bricky color at this age. After 2 hour open to air, a big spicy nose turns into gobs of cinnamon spiced baked pie cherry flavors that are very rich and smooth. Some chinese five-spic too but overall less red fruit and more rich spice in the mouth. Great finish. It will probably hold but I think its at its peak and should be drunk now or it will just become lighter and thinner. Same for larger formats, enjoy now IMO

Perfect balance with fully resolved tannins that let the mineral, pencil lead and yes! light dark cherry flavor thru. Only a light hint of the spicy oak pops up in the finish but overall its blended in. Wine tastes years younger and only the balance and smooth finish hint at a well aged wine. The cork like most older SO's broke in the bottles with a cork-screw and needed an atzu-fork opener to get out.

Viscous wine, dense purple red color but nose, taste and finish is very refined and balanced. Lots of mineral and river rock on the nose. Flavors of mineral, pencil lead, red and blue fruit with a beam of violets and velvety tannins. Quite the surprise in this cab, malbec, pet Verdot, franc and merlot blend.

a bit over 50% tempranillo, then gratziano with grenach and can't recall the last tiny bit, but doesn't drink like a typical fleshy, ripe tempranillo since the smoky-earthy dark berry fruit from the gratziano and spicy grenach are dominant in a very pleasing way. Very balanced with a smooth finish and should age well for a few more years but is really fun to drink now

Unique for a zin at any price but pretty good that its their economy wine. Very earthy and extracted fruit. Tasted years older than it is because of the earth, mocha and tar flavor that gave it lots of added dimensions. Had to look twice that its a 2015 and not older.

Drinks fine now. Has a decidedly high extract, almost late-harvest zinfandel quality about it more than grenach. Very intense beam of red and blue fruit with a smokey-fruity drive that eventually reveals some rhone like spice. A bit atypical for grenach but a wonderful drinking experience. Should age well too.
