The canonical (IMHO) Sauv Blanc to pair with pasta and homemade pesto (and a grilled chicken breast.)

Paired better than expected with a somewhat spicy homemade green curry Thai stir-fry.

On the nose, it's almost a baked goods kind of note, like some kind of fruit-filled pastry brushed with melted butter. The dark berries continue on the palate, with soft tannins and a fairly short finish. Great QPR for what I paid for it (< $10 / bottle).

Previous vintages of this have frequently been our go-to for spicy Asian carryout food - Chinese, Thai, Indian. This year's model has still got it.

Worked quite well with a dinner of red beans and rice, and was better still just drinking afterwards.

According to the "wine guy" at our Trader Joe's, this is Bogle juice, which is what sold us on trying a bottle. Be that as it may, I'm not impressed. It tastes somewhat sour/harsh ... not disjointed, but not smooth, either. Just ... meh, There are any number of $6-10 bottles we buy at TJ's that feel like they're "punching above their weight class". This is not one of them; it tastes like a $7 wine. I can't bring myself to say "I don't like it", but there's also very little chance we're buying it again.

Just sweet enough to be a killer match with fairly spicy carryout Chinese.

Great QPR. Need to buy a couple more bottles and let them hang for a while.

Very much a canonical Marlborough Sauv Blanc, and an exceptional value. A good pairing for the first batch of pesto with basil from our garden.

Jammy, showing its youth but still luscious. Massively great value.
Paired well with pork chops.
Will definitely buy more and try to lay a couple of bottles down for a while.

Still very surprisingly drinkable, even for being on the downside. Paired not poorly with some hoppin' john left over from New Years Day.
(And yes, a BUTTLOAD of schmutz ... glad I decanted it through a screen!)

Decided to make this the wine to ring in the new year with. Not disappointed. :-)
Very funky, yeasty, earthy nose. Almost manure-like. But on the tongue it's crisp and apple-y, just a fun and very sippable bubbly.

My last bottle. Glad I finished it off now ... it definitely felt like it's on the backside. Not nearly undrinkable yet, but also not what it was almost two years ago.
If you're still holding ... DRINK NOW.

Decanted only about a half-hour before dinner, and did not use the Vinturi. I was not initially impressed. Tasted ... "tight", and just not in balance.
Now, two-plus hours later, MUCH improved. There's a vegetal note on the nose, but it's a subdued and smoothed-out version of what it originally was. Very enjoyable just drinking at this point.
I've got one more bottle of this left ... will definitely remember to prep it much further out next time.
(I also have to say that I agree with smileBD's comments about the VALUE of this Bell wine vs. its price. I'm not sorry I decided to drop out of their wine club a couple years ago.)

It's changed since I last posted on it in 2016, but not for the worse. Getting very much a whiskey note, particularly on the palate, now (which is fine by me.)
Once again, it paired nicely with chicken ... although this time it was carryout from Popeye's. :-P

Got another bottle of this recently in a Twisted Oak "mystery case" sale. It is still everything it was the last time I reviewed it, three years ago.

Until last week, I forgot that I had bought another bottle of this about a year ago. :-)
I was a little worried that it might be a little tired, or even completely gone, given both the suggested drinking window, and the fact that the cork was a little crunchy when I popped it. No worries! This is still a big, solid, luscious wine. My comments from 6 1/2 years ago still apply, but also this time there was a STRONG cedar note when I decanted it, that carried over into the glass.
Sadly, I'm pretty sure I don't have yetanother bottle of this lovely wine in hiding somewhere else ...

Also $3.99 at my (Kettering, OH) Trader Joe's. The wine dude there described it as tasting like a $7 or $8 bottle, and that seems about right ... definitely brings to mind several wines at that price point that we buy regularly from TJ's. Slightly sweet and very straightforward, but highly drinkable. I'll probably grab a couple more bottles before they run out.

As a (relatively) cheap last-of-the-night glass/bottle, it's more than serviceable. A little on the sweet side, very easy drinker. Could be from anywhere ... I've had similarly-priced wines with a similar taste profile from California, Columbia Valley ...

Three years later, and my second (and, sadly, last) bottle of this is still drinking exceptionally well. Big woodsy-earthy-smoky nose, subdued, mellow tannins, and that cherry cola. Just lovely.

DRINK NOW!!! This is my last bottle, and it's definitely starting to slide away. Far from undrinkable, but also not what it was originally.

I would strongly suggest that this vintage is well into the DRINK NOW phase of its life. We finished our last bottle tonight ... it was still quite drinkable, but definitely not what it used to be. (I don't regret it being the last.)

22 months later, it's seeming somewhat more opened up and approachable. Again, decanted through the Vinturi. The tannins are very present, but not feeling massive to me. Kind of a SweetTart note on the back end. FWIW, my wife, on first tasting, said, "This is Twisted Oak, right?" And yeah, it does give a vibe like their juice frequently does.
