I’ve been a Quilceda fan for years. Their modern style wines consistently exhibit finesse, power and delicious fruit. If I was to have one criticism, sometimes they lack a bit in complexity or representation of terroir. That said, I’ve never not enjoyed one of their wines. The 2014 QC Palengat is no exception yo this general description. Bottom line: These guys and gals are pros!

This is one of the most flavorful, complex and balanced CDPs I’ve ever tasted. Give it at least an hour to show itself before diving into it’s layers of dark fruit, spices, meat drippings and potpourri of aromas. The finish lingers for minutes!

Simply good Sauv Blanc with nice acidity, a bit of brine and prominent blood orange notes. Dissipates a bit quickly. I would enjoy w a light salad with - well - sliced oranges.

Tasted again and still a great wine - strawberry on the nose, candied cherries and background spice on the pallet- a bit more intensity than when previously tasted. Glad to have enjoyed this one over the years.

I can see why reviews are all over the board on this one. A beastly Sangiovese! Old world for sure with ample saddle leather and compost. More of a steak wine not a drink alone. You gotta be into to this stuff to like it.

Floral notes, stone fruit, syrupy texture a bit surprising for a Sancere, but very pleasant. Nice acidity and minerality. The finish lingers 45 seconds.

Pronounced dark berry and floral aromas, bright, youthful and zesty fruit - very dry cedary on the finish. Not really a quaffer. Recommend with a fatty protein.

Not the punch of Cali Cabs but nice expression of the Italian/US collaboration, although maybe a dichotomy to some. Earthy tones and fruit - pleasant wine.

Wonderful dark berry and stewed plumb aromas. Jammy Zin goodness with a bit of spice. We visited this winery and were challenged by the winemaker yo find a better Zin on our tasting tour of Lodi. We did not. So far I’ve bought 2 cases and shared much of it as gifts for Christmas.

Visited the winery years ago and have enjoyed the wines over the years. Honey suckle, sauted apple and pear show up in this wine. Good acidity - one of the better Oregon Chards I’ve had.

Wonderful citrus with oak emerging in the glass with aeration. No reason to age this wine. Definitely a drink now, but be sure to allow time to open up before drinking.

I’ve never read nor experienced such disparity in a wine. Parker panned it with an 86. Cellar tracker tasters are all over the board with it. I’ll tell you that while it’s got some rough edges and tannic attitude at first, the fruits do come out after much aeration, but it’s not got much length, which leads me to an overall mediocre score. So give it air. In fact it was better the next day, but still not a great wine.

Tasted out of the bottle and over an hour and a half. Cedar, macerated cherry, espresso, w a long finish. Very elegant. The influence of a top Bordeau producer comes through. Terrific. Don’t make the mistake of judging this wine without aeration.

It's been a little over 2 years since I last drank this beauty, but this time instead of drinking a 750ml with my wife on vacation at the White Barn in Maine, we drank a magnum bottle with good friends over a spectacular Christmas brunch at Palmetto in Charleston. Velvety smooth with earthy Old World nuances and luscious fruit, this Chave is not as full bodied as you might expect from a Hermitage, but that's fine here. I particularly enjoyed the subtle spice, which you like to see in Rhone wines. Very balanced. I still score it the same for the many of same reasons as previously stated, too, and our table of 6 in Charleston raved about it!

Enjoyed this wine with friends at Halls Chop House in Charleston, SC. Everyone loved it - very well balanced with soft tannins and vibrant dark fruit. This medium to full bodied single vineyard wine is a crowd pleaser for sure. If it came from Napa, I have no doubt it would cost at least twice a much. Stock up. Enjoy now.

Been drinking these wines since late 90s vintages. While I would agree with most of the flavors described here, it’s a bit dry and astringent for me. I say wait for better days.

Poured this wine through an aerator. It is drinking beautifully, probably the most hedonistic wine I've tasted in a few years. Rich dark fruit with just the right touches of spice and cigar box - not earthy or funky at all - well balanced with a long finish. I've drunk this wine previously and it was very good, but not this good. Don't see how it can get better.

My original note dated Oct 12 2017: “Lacks length. Closed and soft but pleasurable. Definitely wait and hope on this one.” I gave it a 92 and felt neutral about it. However, a month later I took a chance and decanted the wine for 6 hours before serving to guests at an Italian themed dinner party. Much better! The closed edges opened nicely with a bouquet of spice box, velvety fruit filled mouthfeel, and a supple long finish that lingered for 45 seconds or more. Yes, this is a case of triple infanticide I do not regret. Please forgive!

If you are open to some garnet ass, and I mean in an Old Worldly good way, then grab this one. By ass I mean it's got that barnyardiness some can't get past. These are the folks I never invite over when serving big Bordeaux - a wine like this is a waste on them. This one offers layers of fruit, clove and the things we all love - oh, it just tastes good. The wine has a 30-40 second finish. Needs steak to really enjoy. Cranking up the grill, now.

This beauty is a study in contradiction. There's the nose of dark berry fruit and menthol which reminded me of the 85 Sassicaia I had the good fortune to enjoy 10 years ago. The mouth feel was a bit course at first, though, but 2 hours after decanting smoothed out a bit. Nonetheless, it's slightly rough edges artfully integrated with a fine balance of cherry and cedar the whole way. The skyscraper finish lasted a full 45 seconds right out of the bottle and 2 hours later. Very approachable now, this young brute should refine with age and head closer to perfection. Glad I have 5 more! It was terrific with Valentines lamb chops!

Terrific Cab Franc! Aeromatic. Really great approach. Blood orange, dark fruit, vanilla and spice box really make this a wine you won't want to keep your hands off. Lots of sediment though / so decant. Drinking at its best now.

You won't be able to keep your hands off this one. Think a slice of blackberry pie. There's also some anise, menthol, vanilla and a hint if clove that make this wine more complex. A sure bet crowd pleaser. I just bought a case!

Don't know if aging will help here. Seems about right. May soften rough edges. Overall good stuff.
