Offered by the glass at Cree Wine Co., Clinton NJ. I've got poor detail for this note, but must document that this was by far the best pairing for the shrimp tempura/yellowtail/mango sushi roll made by guest chefs from Ryujin. Brought home more bottles to take with me to Ryujin itself asap!

5/6/22, 11:19 AM - I have absolutely taken this wine to Ryujin before and can confirm it's an excellent pick. Cheers!

Sadly, my last bottle of a case. Pure silk, and classic Bordeaux profile.

Fantastic. I could smell this indefinitely. Garnet to ruby color with some bricking. Aromas of dark and dark red fruits, wet soil, lavender, clove, anise, rosemary, coconut, and graphite, and with a little time, dry leaves, coffee, and tobacco as well. Medium body and acid, long finish, with very consistent flavors, maybe pushing more to the red fruit and red hot candy side.

What a gem from a region I most definitely don't associate with cabernet sauvignon, but from which Shaw Vineyard seems to be busting its own beat. Well done. Respect. Will be back soon to pick up more.

Decanted ~4 hours and re-corked in bottle to bring to a wine dinner. Even at that point, the wine was tight as a clam and didn't get much love at the table. But the following day - wow - the wine finally softened up to allow the beautiful fruit to come through. Pure red and blue fruits, tasty oak, creamy mouthfeel and medium + finish. I really regret not having more of this.

8/7/16, 5:42 AM - I rarely if ever have left over wine, but I brought this bottle to a wine dinner where far too many bottles were brought....hence the leftovers

Composite cork, fairly light ruby color with a slight hint of tawny. For sale pricing, hard to complain. But even after a few hours decant, the wine only seemed to open up to a fairly simple and straightforward red fruit profile, very easy drinking, and seems like a "drink now." Will be curious on my other 2 bottles after a little bit of time in the cellar. Good news is this was a hit at a family dinner due to the approachability.

3/19/16, 12:43 PM - Coupe, good question. It's clearly not a bad wine for $14, but I didn't find it very interesting. Probably worth the extra $2 to get the Chenas on sale...

Popped bottle open for a few hours, then recorked and stashed in the fridge for the next day, without any prior tastes. This was very old-school and soft upon entry but still quite tannic on the finish. Good with food and fairly complex, but a bit disjointed overall - perhaps in an odd spot, or my recorking experiment did not do it justice.
  • wirelesswine commented:

7/21/15, 8:07 AM - It was purely by chance. I had opened it but had too many other wines opened that evening and never got to this one, so I recorked for the next day. I generally do not like wines the following day, once opened.

I detected the faintest hint of spritz, otherwise seemed fairly simple. Will hold judgement for next bottle.

9/29/14, 5:30 PM - Interesting question - I never even thought that Brett could have that effect. There was definitely some earthiness, but not the funk that I would normally equate with Brett....so if there was, I'd say it would have been minimal. I'll try to pay more attention on my next bottle.

Super tart and very true to the raspberry character. Great with a wide variety of desserts.

Some very slight frizzante at first, which was a bit concerning, but it did dissipate after about 30 minutes. After that, just lots of big red berry fruit. A bit too sweet, and I'm hoping that the initial fizz was an isolated incident.

1/3/14, 8:22 AM - I've definitely had this happen to me recently with a few wines that I've bought multiples of (one most recently being a Walter Hansel Pinot) and every bottle I bought showed the same thing. Let's hope that's not the case here.

Expected this to be similar to the 2007 Larkmead based on similarities seen in tasting notes and ratings but I found the '06 to be far inferior with less fruit, a bit less body and excessive oakiness and drying tannins. To be fair I did pop and pour and it did improve a bit after open for a couple of hours but it never reached up to what I recall from the 2007. Perhaps the 2006 will improve with more time in bottle to integrate and mellow out as it's admittedly still very young but then the 2007 was a newborn ... Oh what a difference a year can make!
  • wirelesswine commented:

7/31/10, 8:08 AM - I've found the same thing with this wine - it's not just the year of age that's making the difference, it's the vintage - the '06's are definitely tougher and not drinking as early as even some '07's. I think they'll need a lot of time in bottle...or as much time as you can resist opening it!
