Elegant Dr. Pepper. Overall this is a medium-rich Cali Pinot that has tension and energy to balance its fullness. It’s still tightly wound and I found it loosened some with air.

Almost black in color, matching the bramble nose. I get a little campfire and some vegetal notes. Palette is smooth and silky with nice acid. More energy than most QC. Feels properly right bank.
At the tail end of primary.

Faux passion fruit and guava candy you get at the end of a meal at a Chinese restaurant. Young and tannic. Easily one of my favorite Turley vineyards.

Very savory showing. Aromatic herbs. Meat pie. Blood. Some of the tannin you’d expect from Howell. None of the fire you get with Dragon.

Light bodied, which this Mendocino site doesn’t always seem to produce. Extremely fresh. Sour cherries. Perfumed. Juicy acid.

Rich, full, jammy. Reminds me of the blueberry compote I had tonight with cheesecake. Fortunately is balanced by characteristic Paso acidity.

Like a light black iced tea in color. The nose is straightup dark toffee. Nuts. Someone’s cooking orange marmalade far off in the kitchen. Rich mouthfeel with plenty of remaining acid. Time to begin building a cellar of Sauternes!

Medium in body and color. Rounder everywhere than some 100% Gamays consumed just prior. Feels as though the three composite grapes equally shine. Truly three badasses (“chingones”).

Very Raj+Sashi in that this is pure French, summoned from New World. Very Chablis at first. With decanting and temperature White Burg appears. Both with a drop more fruit than their old world counterpoints. Very enjoyable already and I’d venture this will age beautifully for a decade+.

If you like younger, primary QC, give this a 4-5 hour decant and this is ready to go.

‘12 vintage. Drinking beautifully. Prior notes of “grilled grape jam” absolutely apply. I kinda expected it to be bigger than it is, but I won’t go so far as to say it’s fading. I have, let’s say, such BIG expectations for Bevan wines that I sometimes expect it to be more flamboyant and opulent than it is or ever was.

Similar to another ‘97 consumed in this summer, this is very tired. Paired to Beef Wellington via Alinea to go (thanks, COVID-19). Wish I had an older Bdx instead.

Strikingly out of balance and especially so for a 6 year old Pinot. Overt oak as you’d expect from Napa cab. Acid and fruit don’t match.

Wow. Powerful, lacy dark fruits set over a firm tannic background. There’s a lot to like now and I think the best is to come.

To me, New world sauv blanc is fine, new on a hot day, but generally unremarkable. Aesthete is the exception to the rule. Excellent grass, melon, pineapple, citrus balance.

An old gewurz-dominant field blend, that comes across especially perfumed and seemingly with a pinch of residual sugar. Simple yet abundantly interesting, and between the sweetness and nice acid backbone, this was a great partner to spicy curries. I enjoy Bedrock’s rendition more than Carlisle’s.

Vertical tasting. Here is the ‘16, drunk alongside the ‘17. The fruit is significantly more pronounced in the ‘16, along with the caramel characteristic, while the acid and minerality are softener.

A chard to pair with Tex mex. Just the right balance of clean fruit, piercing acid, fresh minerality, and light oak treatment.

“Piss” yellow color. Faint bubbles of effervescence. Burnt salted caramel nose. Candied lemon/lime. Distinctly front- and mid-palette loaded. Lemon curd. Very long finish. Excellent freshness for a 10 year old. Quite good, though Aubert is comparable with half the age.

Young, even seemingly so after 4 hours of decant. On the sweet end of savory. Dark flowers, ripe plums, sweet spices, smoke.

My first white stones. Interesting typicity that’s unfamiliar to me. Unlike any chard I’ve had. For my taste this is best slightly below cellar temp. There’s a lot going on. When too cold, the lemon/lime aspect overwhelmed the rest of it.

Wow, you can tell this had some big fruit in its youth...because it’s still prominent. Nose has faded to a sour/candied cherry. Lively acidity wraps dark red fruits, figs, black cherry liquor. Nuts. Looooooong finish. Reminds me of a tawny. Definitely several years left in this old gal, which is wild.

I’m not very experienced with Condrieu, but knowing what younger stuff offers, this feels past its prime. There’s a sherbet nose and a very full butterscotch nose. That’s about it.

Give this a long decant. I found it quite closed after a few hours of slow ox. Barely any nose. Rigid, grippy tannins. I’ve found Beaucastel best at >15 years old.

I expected their Viognier to be atypical and bright but this is like Chernobyl in your mouth acidity. Give the 2018 at least another year or two.
