Well past its prime, unfortunately…

2/16/23, 8:51 PM - More likely an off-bottle...those wines are built for long cellaring

A delicious wine. Expected very little and was surprised. Excellent body and color, good fruit. My only bottle sadly.

11/7/21, 7:22 PM - How can you expect very little when you are tasting one of the best Bordeaux wines in a top vintage

Was gibt es da noch zu ergänzen zu den bisherigen Notizen: sehr elegant, mit ein bisschen mehr Frucht und Kraft wäre das mein Traumwein.
  • Seb-HK commented:

    11/10/20, 7:58 PM - Dann wäre es ein Pauillac oder Saint-Estephe :)

Decanted 45 minutes. This is ready to go now with saddle leather, earth, dark fruit, nutmeg. A simple but delicious St. Julien.
  • Seb-HK commented:

10/30/20, 8:45 AM - Agree with your tasting note, not bad at all for a second label! It's a Saint-Julien though not Pauillac ;)

The wine is getting be more lovely on the second hour. Sweet nose with cherry, sweet fruits, and hints of cigar box. The palate is great, it makes me feel like eating a delicious cream cake with sweet cherry jam on top. I will definately buy at least half if I find it in HK.

9/5/17, 1:13 AM - Thanks for the review, do you think it still has many years of life ahead?

Just found out Wine High Club is selling the 2001 vintage for 720 HKD (1500ml - magnum format) might be worth trying !

Last year I tasted a great wine with plum, chocolate, black berries and coulis of red berries. Now, all of that was converted to mainly expensive black berry and cherry jam.. Very very disappointing after a year of cellaring...
  • Seb-HK commented:

5/3/17, 7:35 PM - Probably starting to close down a little after a very easy drinking "fruit bomb"stage

A tension and clarity that's more classic Leflaive in style, albeit with a divergent ripe yellow fruit profile. Some sulfur notes evident. Firm, mouthwatering profile with ample backbone. Really a very good wine.
  • Seb-HK commented:

4/23/17, 6:44 PM - Thanks for your review! could you explain what you mean by sulfur notes? What is the characteristic smell? thanks!

Final glasses after several corvine samples over 2 months. Absolutely no sign of any additional development or ageing. Very similar note to previous one:
Deep garnet colour.
Clean nose, pronounced flavours of dark fruit (cassis, damson), floral (violet), other (pencil lead), oak (smoke, clove), tertiary (cedar, cigar box), dried fruit (fig, prune).
Dry palate, medium (+) acidity, medium alcohol, medium body, medium (+) tannins, fine, a little dry, medium (+) flavours of cassis, damson, violet, pencil lead, smoke, cedar, prune. Long finish.
Outstanding, classic St Julien, drinking very nicely now, but with a long life ahead - it has the concentration of fruit, the acidity and tannins to continue to develop further tertiary complexity.
  • Seb-HK commented:

3/30/17, 8:35 PM - Thanks for the review but this is a Saint Julien, not a Pauillac :)

Dark color. Sweet bouquet - not so typical haut Medoc?
Long after taste, also sweet. Where do the sweetness come from?
But not so typical haut Medoc, I think?
  • Seb-HK commented:

3/1/17, 1:42 AM - 2009 is a very good vintage in Bordeaux but an unusual too, quite modern style because hot weather that year, grapes were very ripe that year

Drank alongside 2004 Grand Puy Lacoste and learned the difference between Pauillac and Grave. Both good examples of each. The Olivier is probably more complex: described as cherry coke by one guest.
  • Seb-HK commented:

4/29/14, 10:02 PM - Thanks for the comment except that GPL is Pauillac and not Saint Julien ;)
