Edit: Six months later this is less woody. I still don’t love it and the wood still seems too prominent to me, but it is in a better place than it was in January. Perhaps another six months will help the oak integrate further, but I’m happy that it is trending in the right direction. (New bottle and score added to original review).

Jan 2023: Incredibly woody, as if someone misread the recipe and added 20 pounds of oak chips instead of 20 ounces. The 2018 version of this (N.77 I think) was well balanced with a racy flintiness that drew comparisons to Chablis. This tastes like it was fermented in the trunk of a pine tree.

Glad it wasn't just me LOL

2014 Woodlands Margaret Margaret River Red Bordeaux Blend
Positive development over the past two years and plenty of road ahead. Lovely bouquet that puts the Cab just slightly out front of the other grapes. The palate is smooth but still has some tension and vibrancy. Eight hours after opening and the final glass was the best. I’d love to have a few more

Less fruit and less vanilla than the bottles drunk younger. Still a good wine. Drink soon.
