Corked.

Changed note to no rating to keep the whiners happy. it seems rating a corked wine is somehow inappropriate. Whatever. Amateurs. Some winemakers have a lot of corked wines and others (Rousseau,Vogue, for example) never do.

If I could magically remove the taint this would be a good bottle in the 90s but IT ISN’T. It is near undrinkable … thus low score. The winemaker contributed to this problem as it obviously left the winery with some sort of taint. So THIS BOTTLE has a low score.

This is why I can rarely be bothered to post notes.

10/20/23, 8:05 PM - Some jackass (rkliu) who has reviewed 18 lousy wines thought a “corked” note was irrelevant. Buddy, you need to give your head a shake. You think I’m “ruining” cellar tracker. That’s a laugh.

I can admit I’m lazy but I find corked and pre-moxed notes to be very useful.

    10/21/23, 4:37 PM - It’s always a good bottle. :)

I probably post one note for every 100 bottles I taste. Can’t handle the back seat driving and chirping. Over time I’ve realized that I can only take ratings with a grain of salt as there are a lot of people posting with very different levels of knowledge and experience.

I tasted through about 150 bottles a few weeks ago in Italy. It was fun.

The most memorable were the elegant ones … soldera, Montevertine and Stella di Campalto. Montevertine is a smoking deal and I’m glad it remains on almost nobody’s radar. Oops.

10/21/23, 4:56 PM - I’m going to be an adult and accept the criticism. I was having a grumpy night. I also prefer to
comply with the rules and realize I should pay attention to them. I’m gonna make up for the shoddy poggione with a bachelet charmes 2015. Infanticide but who cares.

10/21/23, 7:02 PM - Just posted TN. Very challenging to buy in my market. I’d buy a case a year if someone would sell it to me.

Corked. Again. Omg, Get it together. The corked ratio is far too high here.

For north of $1,000 per bottle, corked should not be an issue.

2/5/22, 12:08 PM - They were 225 Cdn on release. Straight from agent to my very cold cellar. My conclusion is tainted / corked from winery. Something went wrong with a batch. Other giacosa were fine.

2/6/22, 3:20 PM - Sman, tried an experiment with the remainder of the wine and crumpled up a lot of plastic wrap in a decanter and poured the wine over. Sealed tight and left for 24 hours. Next night the cork taint was gone and the wine was fine. I’ve tried this may times before and it has never worked but this time… success.

Opulent, powerful, full-bodied, dense and intense, this incredibly rich wine offers mouth-coating layers of ripe, lush, smoke and tobacco infused dark red and black fruits. What makes this wine great is that with all its power, you also find balance, elegance, harmony and layers of complexity. The expansive finish, with its ripe fruits, tobacco leaf, smoke, barbecue and oceanic minerality holds you captive for over 60 seconds! This will age for at least 3-4 decades with ease. The wine blends 56% Merlot, 37.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6.5% Cabernet Franc, 14.6 ABV.

LIN—E—AR as all getup. White lemon pith, white stone fruit, chalk, and some salt rock. A straight-laced L7 that has absolutely zero interest in being anything but a wallflower on the palate dance floor. There is no beginning, middle, or end. It just “is” in the mouth. Near flavorless right now, with a $7 Sutter Home White Zinfandel depth that barely has enough concentration or intensity to motivate even an ADHD 3 year old to get out of bed. Hold this for 4-5+ years and hope the “fruit” holds out. 83-85? points.

My girl liked it more than me, stating, “It’s kinda like the Trader Joe’s screwcap Pinot Grigio we used earlier to cook the pasta with.” Yes honey... exactly. So.... ya. That.

3/8/20, 3:32 PM - So nice of you to call me an Illuminati. Very thoughtful.

I should probably just zip it as I’m generally too lazy to contribute notes.

I agree with you that young Chablis can be so razor sharp they give nothing. Problem with Fevre is they suddenly fall of a cliff and become premoxed right before the time they round out and are at their best. The 05 generally all went that way.

  • jpbach13C commented:

3/8/20, 4:09 PM - The fevre premox issue has been shocking. It can impact only 1 of 3 bottles from the same case or all of them. Any fevre bottle shift into premox is not gradual. It’s very abrupt. Very concerning.

You got me all fired up. I’m opening a Fevre tonight!

  • jpbach13C commented:

3/8/20, 4:16 PM - Ok. Just opened a bottle and it’s a beast. Gonna leave the glass alone for an hour to see what happens. I need a dozen or so shucked oysters.

  • jpbach13C commented:

3/8/20, 8:27 PM - Showing very little on the nose but great structure and intensity. It’s all there. My guess is it will take a few years to come out of its shell.

Apple, oxidative, good body, a "interesting wine"

Opened at 11am drinking at 7pm

Unique, good for wine nerds not for people who wanna drink wine

As my wife says "if your grandma's gold 1973 drapes had a taste this would be it"
