I think this is one of the best of the 2016 vintage for Loring. Strong and distinctive flavor profile with cranberries and rose petal. Very flavorful and fresh. This is really shining now and should be really good over the next couple of years.

Nicely balanced Cali Pinot! Light to medium body and structure. Ready to drink now.

I really liked this, much better than the previous two vintages. The value is incredible. I think the additional vineyards that Brian pulls in that are not found in the Sta. Rita Hills blend actually adds depth, and I liked this every bit as much as the Sta. Rita Hills blend.

2013 Beckmen Vineyards Barrel Select Cuvée Santa Ynez Valley Grenache Blend, Grenache (view label images)

Maybe this has entered its 'dumb' phase or the bottle was slightly flawed. It didn't get a lot of fruit, had a very earthly / mineral flavor profile which is unusual for Beckmen. It's my last bottle, so I won't get a chance to taste again - but I previously rated this a 93 so there's something going on with this bottle.

This is fabulous. Cherry and vanilla notes, well balanced. Well done! Cali Pinot at its best, and a great value. 92-93

Really opened up after a couple hours. I get some pine on the nose - maybe cedar. Complex, great finish, we really enjoyed this. Great value!

Solid Burgundy. Had a bottle in a restaurant in Beaune. Great value. Light, good balance, and nice structure. Leather, earth, spice on the nose. Ripe bing cherry on the palate. Solid finish. Great value - we paid 25 Euros in a restaurant.

The nose is very floral, with some stewed black fruit and baking spices mixed in. Fruit forward and new world in approach, making it drinkable now. Yet it has an acidic backbone and enough structure to give it the complexity to go the distance. I really like this Syrah, maybe even better than their Colson Canyon from the same vintage, which I find to be a bit on the acidic side (at least for now).

Solid Grenache from Beckmen. A little less structure than previous vintages. More approachable now vs. cellaring, but will benefit from waiting for a few more years.

This is a surprisingly good Syrah from a merlot specialist. A gem in their portfolio.

My opinion of this wine is still the same after some aging. Lightweight compared to past vintages. Sunstone has really gone downhill since the 2012 vintage.

This aged pretty well and got better. Acidity mellowed out and much more harmonious.

Well balanced high quality chardonnay - Cali style with good acidity and malo combination. Weighty mouthfeel, melon, vanilla, caramelized peaches - you know, what you'd expect from this style and quality. The finish is long and slightly astringent which balances the round / fruity profile of this wine. Well done!

I like this a bit better than the Kessler-Haak and the Boekenoogen single vineyard releases from this vintage. It's a bit more concentrated and flavorful, with cherries emerging on the palate as opposed to cranberries. Smooth, well-balanced, and good mouthfeel. Minimal oak.

Delicate for Sta. Rita Hills, more so than in previous vintages. Cranberry and rose petals on the palate. Well balanced and smooth.

Slightly less acidic compared to 2015. I think this is still an "off" year for Loring, but not as "off" as 2015. The string of drought years really took its toll, and a hot summer really affected the hang time. Overall this has good balance and good value, but the complexity is lacking compared to prior vintages.

Much lighter in body and less complex than typical Beckmen Syrahs. More approachable now vs. having the complexity and structure that makes them long term holds. It's a nice experiment but I hope that Steve sticks to his tried and true style.

This a white blend - lightly oaked (if at all). I'm not sure what's in it but it reminds me of a Sauv Blanc or Chablis style Chardonnay - with an acidic, mineral flavor profile. Decent value for the price.

I think you either love or hate this style of Chardonnay. For me, it epitomizes the full oak, full malo style with waves of vanilla and caramelized apple and pears hitting the palate. Well done, and great value.

Lighter in body / concentration compared to other Syrahs from this region, but still solid. Good balance. Vanilla, spice, dark fruit. Very approachable now. It's got some structure but not enough to go the distance. Drink in the next few years.

My wife picked this up in a grocery store in Sun Valley over Christmas. I was a little suspicious, but was pleasantly surprised when we opened it. It's a rock solid Syrah, showing all the classic Syrah characteristics. A little jammy, but not overly so, some pepper, tar, stewed black fruits. It's got some heat and a decent amount of structure on it. Good complexity. It's still young and could go for another 5 - 7 years at least. Well done and a solid value! 92-93

True to form, savory flavor profile with leather, tar, forest floor, and spice. Great boquet and finish. Still a lot of structure left on this and I’d say this will go for another 10 years or more.

There's not a lot of structure to this, but it's unique and very tasty. Great mouthfeel for a Pinot, but it's not overly extracted. Bursting with flavor, with rose petal and cranberries dominating the palate.

Fairly extracted, fruit forward style cab that packs a lot of heat. Not overly complex, but the quality is great. It's approachable now and has some aging potential (however not all the way to 2040 that the winemaker suggests). At a $65 retail price, it competes in a packed space. My feeling is that there are better values out there, but nevertheless this wine is solid.

I recommend an 1-2 hour decant on this. It was pretty tight upon opening, and after a couple of hours it all came together into a rather complex cab.

Thick, concentrated, complex. Great mouthfeel and structure. Warm climate style but I don’t feel that it is jammy. Great value. This one will go the distance - only starting to develop. I’ll wait a couple years before opening my next bottle.

Crazy good. The bouquet is bursting with aromas of fruit and spice. The palate is consistent - great fruit profile, but it is delicate and restrained with oak highlights that don't overwhelm the palate. At about $35 a bottle this is a great value - highly recommended Sta. Rita Hills Pinot! 93+

Blind tasted. This is a dark cherry colored wine, medium concentration and viscosity. The nose is young with aromas of bright red fruit. Alcohol is present on the nose but it's not over the top. The nose is clean and aromatic. Good balance on the palate – acidity, fruit, and heat harmonize well. The body is medium, and complexity is high. Finish is long. This is a high quality Pinot. Tannins are minimal, but with some decent acidity this could go for another couple of years. Well done. 93+

This is drinking really nicely. Still has some tanic grip and could go another 3 - 4 years but to me it’s peaking. Great complexity, structure, and mouthfeel. Classic Australian Syrah - jammy, sweet, but great structure. Bummed this is my last bottle.

I feel like this is somewhat lighter, more delicate than in previous vintages. Although it's a bordeaux style blend, it's not the meaty, complex wine that it used to be. The winemaker seems to be preferring lighter bodied, more natural wines lately using 100% neutral oak. Still good, but at $65 retail the value is really questionable and not a style that I prefer.

Not a big fan of this. For a GSM it is thin, simple, and disjointed. It's 73% Grenache, so I'd expect more heat, fruit, and structure, but none of this shows up. Maybe this needs some time to come together, maybe it's the style, but for ~ $40 - $50 this is not a good value at all.

This is developing well. Great complexity and balance between fruit and tannic structure. A lot of heat and spice. This will continue to get better and possibly be at its peak in about 3-4 years. Dark, extracted, and full bodied for what is mainly a Grenache.

Balanced Chardonnay - restrained compared to the typical Cali Chardonnay. Not naked, unoaked, or anything like that, but slightly on the acidic side of the equation. The oak is there but definitely takes a back seat. Not sure about the $40 price tag - but I'll chalk this up to a style preference thing, as others might find it exactly what they are looking for.

Very acidic - atypical of past vintages and Tensley Syrahs in general. I would hold this for a while - maybe it will calm down in a few years.
