Confirmed my impressions of the earlier bottle. Lovely wine. Waves of yummy blue and blackberry. Nicely judged wood spice. I think the best young Tondonia I’ve tasted.

The last of a case, and drunk with La Migoua of the same vintage, also the last of a case. La Tourtine has a higher percentage of Mourvedre (maybe 80%) and about about 10% each of Cinsault and Grenache, plus a dash of Syrah. This was lighter in colour, red fading to orange with a hint of brown, and initially more reticent on the nose. Like the Migoua, it evolved massively over several hours, and more than once I was questioning whether I'd poured the wrong wine into the wrong glass. (I hadn't.) Ultimately, I preferred the precision in the Tourtine, its fresheness and its subtle blend of black cherry, frangipani, citric peel, and apples maybe just turning to cider. One could very easily have called it as a Barolo. These impressions on the nose translated very nicely onto the palate, and there was just the right amount of acidity to sear the flavours into the memory. Such a great privilege to try these two cuvees side by side in their 20th year.

    1/29/18, 1:20 PM - Excellent, I'll be round yours in 10 mins...

Actually, I am still smarting from having missed your Tempier tasting last year.

By the way: Happy New Year!

2/1/18, 11:25 PM - Thanks Violistus. Redders and I are members of the same wine tasting club in South West England and he led our Tempier tasting last year. He's long been a huge fan of the wines. Being in a club is a great way of getting to taste great wines that one doesn't have in one's own cellar

I felt that this was in an in-betweeny stage. The nose was fragrant and had developed an attractive sweetness of berry fruit and violets, but that sweetness hadn't yet translated onto the somewhat austere palate. Maybe, with the 2004s, it never will. We shall see.

9/23/17, 2:37 AM - yeah, i'd give it another few years

This was nice but rather foursquare / one-dimensional. Heavy. More a (good) varietal Viognier than a Condrieu, from which I would expect extra class

From memory. Bright mid red. Classic lifted nose. beautifully perfumed but not too much. Intense but elegant on palate with great length. In a good spot now but will last.

Red
1999 Château Haut-Brion Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend
Beautifully poised, attractively "glossy" wine. Very classy. 13%

Best bottle yet. Really fine grained cote rotie character, good depth of fruit and plenty of personality. Excellent balance and mid length finish. Based on this bottle hitting a good spot now.
