Medium lemon color. Medium intensity aroma characteristics of green apple, lemon, lime, wet stone, and bread dough. Dry, high acidity, medium alcohol, medium body and a medium finish. Very good quality.

4/14/24, 5:31 PM - I first discovered this producer last year when I was able to snag a few bottles of the and was able to snag a few bottles of the Bodegas Los Bermejos Listan Negro Rosado Brut Nature. So this year, I made sure to sng some of these bottles as well - great note on this wine - thank you.

2012 Cascina Chicco Barolo Riserva Ginestra Nebbiolo
PnP; ready if not fully mature. This producer can be heavy-handed at times; a bit too modern for many tastes, including my own. However, these early versions of Barolo Cru seem to be in a much more classic mold. I recently opened a 2010, and now this 2012, and both showed a pale, clear garnet as opposed to anything deep red/dark. The nose (for both) was just lovely, with textbook aromas of fruit front and center, and any notion of too much oak are unfounded, at least for these two examples. I have three left that I'll drink in the coming ten years. This is an elegant, medium-bodied wine with very fine, ripe tannins, that's approaching a tertiary stage, but clearly not there yet. Having served this at cellar temp, the 14,5% abv was totally integrated. A nice surprise. recommended

2006 Fattoria di Fèlsina Berardenga Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia Chianti Classico DOCG Sangiovese
PnP. The last of a case purchased just after release. Still managing decent freshness with a pleasant med/med+ body and an admixture of secondary and tertiary aromas and flavors. Elegant with a nice kiss of soil in each glass; a bit monochrome at times. Still some (solid) years ahead. 13,5% abv. In its current state, it's recommended

2021 Granville Pinot Noir Louie Dundee Hills

Tasted through the entire Granville 2021 Pinot Noir lineup. I don't have time to leave reviews for all of them but I thought I would at least summarize the tasting and leave a review for the one wine that took the crown. No surprise it's the Louie,as this is the Winemaker's best wine every year.

Incredible depth, richness, balance and structure on this world-class wine. Notes of black currant, black cherry, mocha, dried herbs, wet minerals, baking spice, and barrel toast - everything in check, everything in flawless harmony.

Built for the long haul, This is a wine whose peak is years away still. My guess would be somewhere around 2030 where it will then hold a 15-year plateau, easily.

One of the gratifying things of having become a fan of the label early is watching Jackson hone his skill set. Every year, he makes the best wines he's ever made, because he just continues to build upon his knowledge base and experience level and applies the many intentional strategies that he picks up along the way.

On top of all that, 2021 was just a phenomenal vintage, so this really is a special wine, And truly the whole lineup was superb so if you're looking at one of the other 2021 single vineyard Pinot Noirs, Just know that you have a superb wine in your hands. There was definitely some experiential differences between each bottling as you would expect, but not in a way which was like this one's better than that one or this one was a better success than the other. More just that this one expresses that terroir differently than this one expresses that terroir etc

The Holstein was super plush and friendly. The Eichler was pretty tannic and stout. The Koosah was bright red and lifted and pretty. And the Old Vine had this incredible complex minerality, along with a more savory bend to it.

Then the Louie came along with all of its big decadent dark rich characteristics That in my opinion just serves the house style the best. I don't always choose the biggest darkest richest Pinit in a lineup just because it's hedonistic. In fact I will often choose a more elegant bottling as a favorite. But in this case, Louie just really expresses what Jackson is trying to say best I think.

Drink 2030-2045

12/21/23, 5:21 PM - Jack - such a great review, thank you! I tried the Koosah Chard and Holstein Pinot in April and just tried the Louie and O’della and promptly joined the club. I wish I could have tasted the evolution, but just glad to be here!

On Tuesday, October 24th, I had my first Sine Qua Non. Wanted something special for the gift of Summer temps in my backyard smack in the middle of a Northern Illinois Autumn. Decanted 7 hours.

Should have instead slowly sipped this wine in my non-existent, mahogany-paneled, rare-book-filled study at midnight with the sounds of a crackling fire and distant thunder that would inevitably grow closer. Alone, brooding over the Devil’s Deal that tantalized untold success and revenge against my enemies but knowing the price I would pay at the end would be monstrous unless I had set up my chess pieces well enough to double cross him.

So, if I ever find myself in this situation, it’s nice to know I don’t have to worry about what I should drink.

This is some f^&%* serious wine. Opaque and dark, black fruit, pepper, leather, herbs and big doses of tapenade. It’s a charcuterie board without the cheese and fig jam. It’s ponderous without clunky weight. It doesn’t let up—no peace to be had when drinking this. To me, a rating is not the point with this one because of the intensity of the experience, but I do see ratings as something to guide rather than an actual grade. I’d give it a 94 last night while consuming and a 98 while dreaming about it (yep, I really did) and contemplating it this morning. Ergo, a 96. Whew.

2020 LaLù Langhe Nebbiolo Langhe DOC
Very good - but it needed to unfold before it revealed its full self. I didn't really care for this in the first 30-45 minutes, as I found it a bit foursquare, too fruity, and lacking structure. That all changed, and continued to change at the one hour open mark, when the acidity really took control of the conversation and the zeal of the youthful fruit relaxed and moved more in balance and harmony. In the end, I really appreciated the wine, and its craftsmanship. Tasted side-by-side with the 2020 Ca di Press Langhe Nebbiolo, the latter was my preferred wine in the first 30 minutes, though by the final sip, that preference had completely reversed. Lovely wine, and easily highly recommended. A good future here; with this bottling, and the producer.

Coravin. 2 hours in the glass prior to tasting (and it needed the time); aromatic, black cherry, minerals, tons of spices; palate is medium bodied, medium 14.5% alcohol, medium-plus vibrant acidity, red and black cherries, lovely fruit, youthful but with some spice character, well integrated; finish is medium-plus length. Really lovely, perhaps a bit darker fruited than Le Trame typically is, though I haven't yet tasted the 2019 Le Trame. High quality, and everything I expect from a Tuscan Sangiovese. 93+

I must say I am a bit partial to this one. We visited the Château yesterday and Emeline Borie (daughter of the owners) showed us around. She has been the must gracious and Humble host thus far on our trip through Bordeaux. IMHO, GPL deserves to move up from its current 5th growth classification. Now that’s out of the way, the 2015 is still quite young. Dusty tannins round out an excellent mouthfeel. Fresh and a bit tart red and black fruits. Accessible now only with food, or feel free to hold for 30 years+ if cellared properly. Great QPR.
There are many excellent places to choose from In Pauillac, but I will make every effort to come back here if given another chance. Hold
