(at - Restaurant Tafelspitz – Dusseldorf) A bit deeper and a bit spicier than the Donnhoff. Also, very youthful in character – needs time to come together but there is some very good stuffing. (91+?)

Beautiful dark fruits and floral notes in the nose.
Black cherries, plum, mocha and some smoked aromas on the palate. Very complex body with great structure and stiff tannins - not too heavy, just perfect.
It is aged for 14 month in French barriques.
It is just my second vintage of this wine after trying the 2009 a few years ago. I rated the 2009 with 91 points but the 2010 is even better! It is perfect now but will gain complexity over the next couple years and will be perfect around 2021.
Great price tag for this quality too in my opinion. If you see it in a restaurant or a wine store give it a try! Just 2,200 cases produced in 2010.

3/22/19, 2:24 AM - Since double magnums need a little more time I would suggest opening it somewhere between 2022-2030. But as always, if you want to drink it, just open it whenever you want and give it some air. I always decant larger bottles in regular decanter so that they get more air. Cheers

Maybe the lowest score I have given on CT. On the first night it was undrinkable. On the second night it was a tad better, but still not good. Tasted like the house cab at TGI Friday’s. Another 80s steakhouse wine that just isn’t very good.
  • DrZett commented:

2/9/19, 3:03 PM - Actually 87 is a pretty high note for a wine, maybe you should reconsider your rating and lower it. I totally like the wine btw.

Once more 2016 proofs to me that it was one of the greatest vintages in the last decade on the left bank. Beautiful red fruits and cassis notes. Firm but elegant tannins, great structure and a long finish. Definitely one of the best 2016 Bordeaux buys.

Amazing right now. Great mineral notes, perfect sweetness and interesting fruit and some little aging notes. Honey, melon, ripe lychee and some toffee on the palate. Very precise acidity on the palate, medium-long finish. Just beautiful in the moment but could easily last another 10 years.

5/10/18, 1:59 AM - Good question and to be honest i had to look it up since I always try to avoid these wines. The "Kammerpreismünze" on the neck of the bottle does still exist. It is organized by the individual German states (Bundesländer). It is more used for wines in the low price segment and in my opinion it says nothing about the quality of the wines. If you're looking for good German producers take a look in here: - you nearly never go wrong with these producers.

Wow - just beautiful! Lots of dark berries and cherries, very fruity and mouthwatering, tannins still present but nicely integrated. Feels way younger than 50 years - simply astonishing.

No, I didn't decant it - I'm very cautious when it comes to older vintages and decanting. I simply let it in the open bottle for about 30-40min before drinking it. Drank it over an hour - was getting more and more beautiful. I got my bottle from a wine auction - bottle variation are a big factor when it comes to 50 year old wines.

2/14/18, 11:39 PM - @trouts10 I love some decent Brett in a wine, it may give it more depth and complexity but when there is nothing more left than Brett it is an off bottle and not enjoyable - flawed. It seems that you don't know, what you're talking about.

Very concentrated but slightly coarse. Some quite grating tannins and there's a slightly vegetal / stale element to the fruit. Hopefully a bad bottle as I've two more.
  • DrZett commented:

7/10/17, 8:43 AM - Must have been a bad bottle. All my bottles were great so far although i would wait at least 5 more years before opening the next one.

Nothing spectacular here. It's an "ok" Champagne but that's all. A little too pricey in my opinion.
  • DrZett commented:

7/2/17, 1:56 PM - I guess you're right Rolf. I'm not a big Champagne drinker and these were the only bubbles we had in the fridge when some friends were surprising us with their visit. Will probably get better in the future.

Anderson's CVV Cabernet Sauvignon has long been one of my favorites: Top tier in quality and very age-worthy, but without a 3-digit price tag to match. I bought a case of the the highly acclaimed 2007 vintage years ago. It has been stored under ideal climate-controlled conditions.

Having read glowing reviews, I figured it was time to try it. Over the past week, we drank 3 bottles. They were decanted about 2 hours beforehand and served at cellar temperature. All 3 bottles had good ullage and vibrant ruby color without any appreciable browning. None showed any cork taint or other inherent flaws.

Unfortunately, all 3 bottles disappointed equally. They lacked the full-bodied richness and smooth finish I expected. While drinkable, it was clear that they were already beyond their peak by at least a couple of years. All 3 bottles also threw off considerable sediment, not surprising as I don't think this wine is filtered or fined.

I would have loved to chime in with a 94 or 95 points score, but even my 89 points score is generous.

What happened? I bought the wine online. Was it "damaged" (unbeknownst to me) in shipment? Was there a bad batch from the winery? One thing is for certain: It doesn't taste anywhere near up to expectations, not gas it aged gracefully.

Dry blackberry & blueberry. Spicy woody aftertaste.

A little powerless and boring, i was disappointed. Don't know if this will get better in the future. Bad cost-quality ratio.
  • DrZett commented:

1/2/16, 12:02 PM - Yes might be, although it didn't taste like it had any of the usual errors. Unfortunately it was my first and last bottle of the 1995.
