this bottle relly sang today. color of a nice dark rather opaque purple. nose jumps from glass with ripe red fruit, no heat but a fullness to the nose. exotic incense and some semi sweet licorice. the mouthfeel is terrific. first a nice coating of lush red fruit. then red fruits, flower petals, bright spiciness (not too earthy or dull) and sweet round tannins make for a near perfect mid palate. the finish tapers a bit but still nice and long with just a touch of heat to finish.

this was the nicest bottle of pj flower i've had in a long while. really nice bubbles - small, consistent and abundant. the nose jumps a little from the glass with nice yellow fruit, yeast and flower. the palate is clean and coating. nice round fruit with dough and hazelnut. pleasing feel throughout. finish is not bad perhaps a tad short and thin.

enjoyed this. nice clear pinot color - a bit lighter than previous vintages? nose is full and loaded with bright, ripe fruits, spice and just-a-tad too much wood. the palate is big and has a broodiness to it - ?product of youngness? loaded with cherry and raspberry fruit. vanilla. nice flavor, but again too much, wood. blame it on infanticide. love the finish where not as much of the wood comes through. more fruit and vanilla and a certain smoothness to this finish

for 13 bucks, i could drink these again. both bottles with consistent notes. great color and a nose that is pleasant fruit and spice. mouthfeel is little light but not thin to point of fault. just not much heft. flavor profile consistent with the nose - nice bright, tangy fruit, spicebox (as others have noted) and very mild wood to enhance. overall a tad flat. finish is short but not offputting, just kind of fades without fanfare. overall, though, nice drinker at home.

nice drink with nice flavors and mouthfeel. some bacon, dark fruit (sl sweet) with subdued oak. palate is fairly round but lacking in oomph. finish is rather nice if a tad short. may last a few years. this was a pleasure to drink.

not much left, mostly fruit and still a little jammy at that. color faded and clarity missing. nose all black fruit but not very uplifting. palate still has some decent heft but not much complexity. little dry and some hollowing out mid palate. finish is not bad, but not good either. doesnt really keep you coming back. but not undrinkable which was a worry. many people liked it - even without knowing its age.

fairly consistent with my last note. not tasted blind. color and nose continue to be gorgeous. palate is approachable like last time. full fruit with little oak, spice and gamey character. lost some of the verve from a yea ago - more subtle this time around but still a full mouthfeel. finish still lacks a little but is long. overall just cant quite elevate this to outstanding but it is a great bottle of wine. no complaints here.

pleasantly surprised. nice color. nice nose of velvety dark fruits with a tad oak overpowering. nice mouthfeel but "safe." pretty good balance but short on complexity and appeal. i guess i was expecting bigger and more attention grabbing. finish is abrupt and not as smooth as palate might dictate.

this bottle was singing tonight. gorgeous color of light yellow and crystal clear. nose exploded from the glass with lovely yeast and yellow/green fruits. nice pear in here. the bubbles were beautifully consistent and never quit. the palate is explosive yet all encompassing. precision. first the mineral and acid but before that dominates the yeast and fruit come in for wonderful balance and complexity. just layers the palate. the finish is seamless and stretches a good long time. simply wonderful tonight.

slightly cloudy pale gold with just a hint of green. nice perfume and metal mix on the nose. palate is nice with a good balance of steely mineral and oak with supporting yellow and greem fruit. a tad out of balance is all. finish is nice and round if a bit short.

because cheryl and i once had a nice bottle of this tete (maybe the 90), i want to like it. however each and every bottle since then (? 10 or so) have never soared. this, unfortunately, was no exception. small bead that was inconsistent. rather dull on the nose with just a bit of nice fruit and dough. flat feeling on the palate but certainly not oxidized. just flat with some fruit, some dough, some yeast and minimal nutty character. not much integration at all. can i say boring. finish is soft and short. me thinks im finished with the pj's.

tasted with the Oil. decanted about two hours and opened in case the Oil didnt come around. glad i opened this. this wine was spectacular and singing on all cylinders. color was light violet to the rim. nose of fresh blue fruit, vanilla and some spice. palate was outstanding - full, complex, lush, coating and just downright a joy to experience. blue fruits in balance with oak and vanilla in balance with floral character - all with the underlying spice to round it out. seamless through the finish. just kept coming back for more. i need to source more of this. anyone? :)

interesting. my experience is akin to kemo sabe's. removed the wax and some of the top of the cork was wine stained. some concern. but cork came out nicely in one piece and smelled ok. decanted and a big wave of lushness jumped but with a little "funk" to it. hope this blows off. left alone for five hours. little taste - hmm i remember this being little bigger and more lush. back into bottle and off to the tasting. redecanted and then poured into everyones glass so they have it in front of them throughout the two hour tasting. boy did this come around. now its singing and the table agrees. great color with a little fade at edge. nose again jumps from glass with dark fruits, vanilla and that deep lush spice. palate is complex and big and lush and comfy coating all at same time. now i find some meat and blood reminiscent of the rhone. just ethereal on the palate. still a touch of heat that is felt especially on the finish. but boy did this come around and flex its muscles. yum.

had this alongside the 06. decanted for 4-5 hours. unfortunately, like the 06, this did not show so well. color dark to the rim. nose a tad more giving with some nice fruit and vanilla. the palate again subdued and rather closed despite the decant and time in glass. jsut tough to coax any lushness and balance out of this. better on the back palate where it all started to blossom but then vanishes. perhaps a hint of whats to come in few years. again, like the 06, a question of dumb phase comes to mind. finish was short and tough to come back to. score includes a few points of future promise.

nothing like i remember or wrote about in last note. decanted 4-5 hours. color was dark to the rim. nose expressive but underwhelming - dark fruits, tar, a little heat. palate not giving at all. almost retiscent. tried to coax something out of it. finally found some dark fruit and perhaps little spice but overall not very giving. no lushness, no wow. wonder if in dumb phase. rather angular on the palate. finish is short and fails to stimulate and pleasure. i think this is a well made wine and hope that it opens down the road, but tonight not so much. my score is inclusive of 6-8 points of future potential.

a behemoth of a pinot with outstanding balance and flavor. medium color with a nose of darker red fruits and vanilla and spice. on the palate: no spritz here. a serious pinot. nice attack of red fruit wrapped in vanilla. big structure and coats the palate - a good thing. nice grip. heat is there but not overpowering - just a how do you do hello. could have kept this on my palate for a long time - love the expansiveness of this wine. the finish is long and here is found a little more of the heat that sneaks up on you and brings some imbalance.

does anyone else get the spritz in these auberts? can almost smell it and certainly feel it on the tongue. while not off putting it is a different palate feel. this was up against a marcassin for comparison. nice red fruit is definitely there. little acid imbalance felt mostly on the palate. heat is there as well. touch of spice but lost a little. maybe i am trying to say this wine was awkward tonight. finish ok but not memorable.

nice golden color. i didnt really pick up the greenish tint that i sometimes get from PM. nice nose of mineral and yellow fruit - apple, pear. little weak on the palate and seemed a tad "thin" with fruit and some heat. oak is present and not quite in balance. finish little short overall.

mostly consistent with my previous note. love the xpression of fruit and oak character in this wine. fruits are big and lush, but in this bottle lacking just a bit of acid for balance. the mineral is there but a little more hidden than i remember. the oak character is really nice - butterscotch, vanilla and coconut. no real heat either. finish is rather lush and long.

table and i liked this. nice soft bubbles and fine mousse. nice balance of fruit, think apple and pear, with yeast and dough. lighter style on the palate and could have been a little bigger and more lush for me. nice even finish if perhaps a little simple.

non blind. initially served too cold - right out of the ice bath. no way to evaluate at that time. after warming significantly, this really opened up. floral and gourd-like fruit that really showed thru on the nose and palate. nice and viscous on the palate with really nice mouthfeel. finishes with some lemon oil and honeysuckle. i think needs some time to come around a bit more and will be better.

non blind. decanted for 6+ hours prior to pour. dark to the core, as expected. nose jumps for the bottle, decanter and glass. huge but not hot. great dark fruits with a cocoa and spice all evident. really nice start on the palate. dark fruits again with nice cigar and chocolate. little hot but not overpowering. but as this progresses through the mouth, it becomes disjointed and a little wacky/out of balance. a little wacky is not unusual for sqn (and maybe adds to the allure), but the balance is an issue with this bottle especially mid palate. gains some structure back on the finish. given others' notes, wonder if this is offish bottle. overall not terrible, but in context of previous sqn and current notes, this bottle did not live up to expectations.

one bottle slightly off i think. the other was not bad but was hoping for better from this house. nose was a little non-giving and "stale" without much oomph. the palate is well rounded but just no wow. nice bubbles, nice fruit, nice yeasty, nice, nice and nice. but the man who bags my groceries is nice, very nice in fact. i wanted more than nice from this bottle. maybe lacking in acid which might have brought this up a little. finish is better than average and does keep you coming back.

heavier than i thought given the blanc de blancs, but i have not had this house before. nose is rich but imbalanced a little with tart fruit. not a lot of yeast/dough character. nuttiness and tart acid on palate with almost still wine quality. dont think it was off bottle as both bottles were fairly identical in taste. finish is big - as expected - and the better part of this wine for me. not bad just less my style i guess.

what is it about champagne from magnum? always seems to be better. this bottle was lovely. great finesse on the bubbles and mousse. nose of fruits/dough and little nuttiness. palate sensational with a nice soft caressing feel. tropical fruits and apples intermixed with enough dough and oak to round them out and tame the acid. full palate. finishes with a flourish.

non blind. nice colr and nose of stone and steel with hints of oak and vanilla. mouthfeels is burgundian to me with predominacne of stoney character with nice yellow fruit and acid. mouthfeel tells all as this seemed a bit out of balance. while the fruit is there, the tartness and stoney minerality dominate. not much oak character tonight - missing some buttery, vanilla character. finish is shorter than i'd like but very good none the less. too young? decant?

non blind to me at end of evening with foie. from half bottle. classic sauterne to my palate with orange and honey. not in your face like some mr k and kracher. more refined and elegant - which, of course, it should be. i dont drink a lot of sauterne, but this tasted young with just a touch of tightness and an edge that needs to flesh out. wonderful now but i suspect that this will markedly improve with more time. although it was nice tonight with foie and honeyed brioche.

non blind to me. wow again. big bold and wonderful from the start. but the real treat was that it kept getting better throughout the night. amazing color and blend of black and purple. nose jumps at you with fruit, chocolate and velvety tannins. palate is lush and pleasing from the front to the back. layers the tongue with black fruits in perfect ripeness, chocolate coffee, sweet tannins and a luxurious that never quits. seamless to back palate and finish. lingers and keeps you coming back for more.

non blind to me. fabulous tonight. dark in color but seemingly not as dark as the sqn bottlings. nose jumps from the decanter and glass. dark fruits but lively not brooding. palate is lush and refined in a way. still a big wine but more feminine and elegant than i would have thought at this young age. chocolate, black fruits, anise all nice coat the palate. wood is certainly there with tannins but refined and in decent balance. finish is wonderfully long and luxurious. perhaps still an edginess that should integrate as time goes on. i think this will get better.

non blind to me. wonderful wine, just not up to the marcassin vineyard pinot...yet? gorgeous color. aromas of nice bright ripe fruit - black berry, black cherry and bhint of blueberry. palate follows with very big expression of fruit but nicely balanced with flower and wood and tannins. a nice package even at this young age. downside is slight expression of tomato essence which i didnt find in the marc vineyard. certainly a detracter at this point. hope it goes away with time. finish is wonderful and has nice length.

love this still. still bright color to rim. clean and full aroma of cherry and blue fruits, high mountain air with a touch of cinnamon spice. the palate again shows a little zip on the tongue and then spreads evenly thorughout the palate - just enough to coat without being too suffocating. really nice cherry and blueberry with cedar and floral undertones. little bit of cinnamon type spice. nice soft tannins. the finish has faded just a tad but lingers long enough to pull you back for another taste. so sad - my last bottle.

non blind and only my second encounter with this winery. lovely clarity in the glass. nose of mineral, acid, lemon. palate is dominated (?to a fault) with acidic fruit and brazen minerality. missing roundness for sure. kept waiting for the balance to appear but it never did. finish was as expected and shorter than should have been. hopeful that this will come around. i am not against non creamy, burgundian style chard, i just think this (or any wine) should have balance, and this didn't.

12 bottles of 02 cabs present. all of us knew what was there, but no one knew the order/flights etc. i decanted this about six hours prior to start of the dinner/tasting. big wine right out of the glass. big full nose of dark fruits, choc, coffee and oak (but not overpowering oak.) the mouth feel is huge with a touch of heat/astringency at tip of tongue. then on the palate this sings. perception of sweet that i attribute to the wonderful ripe black and dark blue fruit mixing with the chocolate. the oak and tannins are peresent but wonderfully integrated for the most part. seamless into the back palate and thru to the finish, which seems to last forever. this did not make my top three tonight and finished tied for seventh overall from the group. (bond st eden, les pavots and maya were 1,2,3 for the group)

easily the best young, new release marcassin that i've eveer tasted. nose just lifts from the glass. sweet cherry cola, lavender. the palate is already very complete with a wonderful interplay of fruits (cherry, blueberry), sweet wood and bright floral. wonderful palate, totally encompassing like a warm blanket. hard to find a rough edge on this. finish is longer than expected for a baby. while there is some complexity to this wine overall, perhaps the only downfall is its youth - just doesnt quite have the depth that it will acquire as it ages.
