So tight. Another 2015 I regretted opening. The quality is there but I think this needs many years. Dark black cherry sour cherry hints of vanilla and a wall of mouth drying tannins. Will be a 93 or 94 one day. Not a plump fat soft merlot by any means but rather a dark stern cab franc seeming wine today.

This cant be a 2009. So serious and tight, not a fruit bomb at all. Earthy and savory, not a whole lot fruit, but what is there is dark. I would have said 2006 or 2008. I thoro enjoyed this, but it needed a long decant and even then it wasn't eager to please. I would say years and years from peak. Good value here.

5/20/20, 2:52 PM - No doubt but I thought the 2009 vintage might overshadow producer style. It did not in this case. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

2006 Pax Syrah Cuvée Keltie North Coast

Paxs 2006 are really special. This wine at 14.1 booze shares with the majik and Kobler density and liveliness. You wouldn't peg them as new world nor 12 years old. This one is floral, more beef blood and cherry. I liked the others way more but this is solid and probably a top syrah in the states.

I've had more than my fair share of the 2007 bdx because I found a bunch on crazy sales. Most have outperformed my expectations and their reviews. This one is a great example. Might be one of the best I've had. Definitely classic pauillac flavors of cedar and graphite and even some mint. It isn't lacking in body, but I suppose the oak is a bit high. Great wine for a great price, particularly since my rich friend says the older vintages aren't even worth it (as this chateau has really upped their game in the past 5-10 years).

1/12/17, 7:12 AM - I decanted it just an hour or so. Seemed to work just fine.

Had over 3 days. This is a good zin. Historic vineyard. Fruit forward. Low acid. Dark berries. Full bodied. Not overdone. Pepper and spice and blackberry. I think others do this vineyard better but nothing wrong with this incarnation.

11/27/15, 7:38 AM - I can only speak to this bottle which was stored upright at room temperature by a friend. It was her bottle, after all. That said, it didnt change over the three days. I personally wouldn't lay it down for much longer, but I like the powerful fruit of zin and I don't mind tannins.

Amazingly light. Hard to believe this from Napa, let alone CA. This is the anti-Rombauer. High acid, low alc, light bodied. Great food wine. Old school. Great value. Would love to see this in ten years.

I enjoy this producer's rose, but this 375ml Brut Reserve was a disappointment. It tasted like a good apple cider. Light green apple flavors. Nothing more nor is there anything inviting you into the wine. One dimensional. Nice but clearly not outstanding.

4/11/14, 1:22 PM - Whaaaaaat? I see this was on New Year's Eve. Maybe that affected your score. Hehe. Anyway, I love the Rose and the Brut. I have another bottle here I'm going to try soon. I will let you know.

Nice blend. Drinking well. Probably best qpr in the guigal lot after the CdR. Old world spice and leather. Very good.

3/1/14, 9:35 AM - I'm sure your window is fine. I just wanted to go through a bunch of rhones as ive got a france trip planned. I was just pleasantly surprised by this bottle when comparing it to other guigals that are way more expensive.
