Order placed today for more Bevan wine.
Opened one to celebrate
The nose swells from the glass like a smoke on the water.
First sip, black ink, dry, the tannins cling to your teeth.
Concentrated flavors but ballance and seriously tasty.
With all the big scores Bevan gets, amazing how this lowly 95 pointer, makes 95 points smoking hot.
This wine has the sex appeal of a young tartlet being bad, and its so good.

6/7/16, 6:30 PM - Thanks for the feedback! I ended up buying most of mine. Hopefully will show nicely with some time in the bottle. Super excited to try the Curmudgeon again.

Day 1: not much of a nose, but the first taste out of the bottle was interesting (in a good way). Orange peel, asian spice, and tart red fruit. An hour or two later, it was smooth, dark red fruits, silky and remind a medium finish. I thought is was great.

Day 2: This is an amazing wine. Fully integrated and so silly and smooth. Lots of bold, ripe fruit (red) and no longer has the orange peel flavor nor baking spices (first night there was a hint of cinnamon). Long finish and really enjoyable. First night was a 90-1 and second night was a 94.

I would slow ox this for 2-3 hours or place in a decanter for at least one. I see no reason to wait on these as they are so enjoyable now.

What a find! Looking forward to more from this new producer.

12/22/15, 2:53 AM - I just left it out in the counter. I think that a two hour decant will do the same. Personally, I enjoy seeing how the wine evolves. If you decant, then you have the opportunity to try it along the way. Enjoy!

Birthday Dinner; 8/29/2015-8/30/2015: I opened this hoping that it would be my Pinot for the night after the Cirq that I opened was too young. It was opened for 3 hours after removing a glass to allow for a better slo-ox. It was still tight and somewhat hot. I am sure that with more time it would have come around, but I could not wait any longer. It is still a great wine, but I would let it rest for another year or two.

8/31/15, 7:11 AM - Agreed - this has been great for me too in the past, but this time was tight and needed more time to "open." Unfortunately, I did not have time to wait. Plus, it is a Mike Smith wine, so you have to trust that it is special. The Kanzler was amazing from the PnP. I wish that I had more. I opened a 2012 Treehouse Vineyard Cirq. I had reached out to Michael Brown, who suggested a 2 hour decant. I just opened it, removed a glass, and let is slow - ox. I did retry the Cirq last night, and I never thought that could tell the difference between a 20-40 dollar pinot and something at this price point ($100). However, it was not in the flavors, but the finesse. It is a truly amazing wine, but needs a year or two or some time in the decanter.

If you are going to drink this soon, please decant or open for at least an hour. We took this to a restaurant and it took almost an hour to open up. Once it did it was blueberry, chocolate, and citrus. Some vanilla and cream too. Great wine. Not sure that this has many more years in it.

5/31/15, 7:51 AM - Totally agree, but not sure this has much more of peak drinking beyond 2-3 years. Any recent favorites that you have had?

Popped and poured from cellar temp. Lots of red fruit. Very easy to drink. Disappeared quickly. Flavors are primary at this point. Will give next bottle some air time to see what other flavors are present.

2/23/15, 3:53 PM - I had done the same. It is a much different, and I think better, wine if consummed at room temp. let me know what you think.

Great wine. Red and black fruit up front and minerals and cocoa in the middle. Not a big fruit bomb, very well balanced. I think that this is drinking well now.

Great wine - great long finish, smooth and great bold fruit (blackberry, some blueberry) and subtle smoke/cocoa. Easily the WOTN.
