Ruby with a hint of brick. On the nose, high toned and floral, with fruit aromas of fresh and dried cherry, rose petal, potpourri, and cinnamon. Also some licorice/anise. On the palate, the fruit is clean and fresh, all cherry and raspberry juice. There’s still some floral and spice elements, but much more fruit focused on the palate than on the nose. It’s medium-light in weight and has a very nice “cool” airy texture, like cotton. Nice juicy finish, with decent length and good acid. Very modest tannin. This is just a great, pure and simple red, very food friendly, easy to drink, well balanced, and no thought required. Very happy with it.

This was my first Argentinian Cab Franc. It did not disappoint. In personality, it was closer to a Loire Valley than a Napa Valley example. Dark garnet with a purple hue. Nose of blackberry, vanilla, earth, tobacco and a little and green pepper. Ripe, medium palate of blackberry and tobacco with pleasant salinity and refreshing acidity. Excellent length. Subtle vegetal note. Noticeable new oak. Sweet tannins. With a few years in the cellar, this wine will be even better.

I am not usually very big on Merlots (or Chilean wines, for that matter), but this is a stunner, particularly for the price. Pour it blind and you could fool your guests into thinking they are drinking a $100 Bordeaux. Complex at all levels. Deep red color with an intense, extremely enjoyable nose. On the palate, it is distinctively and impressively Merlot all the way, and in a good way. Though it has woodiness of a Merlot, the flavors are so intense that the elegant tannins nicely frame them, rather than detract. It is bone dry, but the earthy fruit stands out, nonetheless. Intense, smooth finish. This wine may not be for everyone, but for those who like a dry, flavorful red, this could be your favorite, and at a modest price.

big disappointment following media hype (WS 92). While almost anything in WS needs to be taken with a grain of salt, given their propensity to over-hype plonk (and under-hype great values), this is only marginally better than Columbia Crest's 2012 Grand Estates and that's nothing to be proud of.

The 2012 H3 blend 94% Cabernet, 4% Merlot and 2% Syrah. Even if I had consumed this entire bottle by myself, I doubt that I could have found any cab notes. Ok, the wine is not revolting, but you can do a heck of a lot better with some of the 2012 blends (Gnarly Head). This H3 is a waste of time, calories and money.

Violet purple, no sign of age. Starts out with American oak, dusty dark fruit. A couple of swirls later I get perfumed blackberry, green leaves, cream. Full bodied on the palate, viscous, milky malo tones, blackberry, good depth, still tannic. Clean finish. Very modern in style yet good quality, balanced and well tuned. Likable. Drink or keep

This was a wine club bottle. The Justin "regular" cab is a hit or miss depending on the year. This one left me wanting more. The fruit seemed very disjointed and the tannins were weak. It was young (maybe too young) but I wanted to decide if I wanted a couple cases as drinkers. Decided NO.
  • Merky_Waters commented:

8/15/14, 7:17 PM - from what i can tell, this is characteristic of the 2012 vintage. lush ripe fruit but lacking in tannic structure even for bottles twice this price. fun to drink young but i wouldn't be buying cases.

Silky, soft, elegant and refined, the wine is polished, fresh, round and ripe, plus it’s already delivering much of its charms.

A bit closed, or else an underwhelming nose. Dark fruits, cassis, a touch of graphite. Soft, well integrated tannins. My wife wants to add plum but I stand by cassis... Easy drinking. Good QPR, definitely. Maybe not quite enough acidity to be the BBQ and pizza wine we wanted for the night, but for a $10 glass, it's decent

paid $12. you can definitely do alot worse at this price point. the body is a little thin and the finish is a little short, but hey, at least it tastes like Bordeaux. nose of barnyard, and mostly red fruit. black cherry, and a little strawberry with time. tasty upfront with juicy apple skin like tannins but lacking a pronounced finish i'd take this over many Cali cabs at the price point.
  • Merky_Waters commented:

4/19/14, 10:16 PM - tasted this again alongside some tasty Bordeaux in the 25-30 price point. it was definitely more than half as good. bump my score up to 87. great cheap Bordeaux.

Dark ruby. Nose of ripe dark cherry, boysenberry, cedar wood and pipe tobacco. Palate enters with soft ripe fruit carried through with excellent minerally core and accentuated by some leather and dark bitter chocolate onthe midpalate. Amble acidity and primary in its fruit, this will last for some years. medium long balanced finish with good grip. Wonderfully balanced and it remains a very impressive bottling respective to its price range. Better than the 09. love it.
