Opened a 2nd bottle after the first corked one. Decanted for an hour before really digging in. This had powerful, vibrant aromatics right from the start. Dark currant, plum, cedar, cigar box; very seductive. Same fruit came through on the palate. Great textures on the very long finish. Still plenty of underlying structure to allow for future aging, but in a really tasty spot right now.

Dark cherry and crushed berry. Subtle spice and darker floral tones. The word "muddled" came up, but in a good way. More of a savory character than I expected. Attractive earth elements coming out.

A lovely mix of baked red apple, candied ginger, and lime peel. Full of energy with fine bubbles. Lengthy, vibrant finish. Simply delicious, but unfortunately my last bottle.

Opened and decanted an hour before serving and then drank over 2 hours. Lots of dark berry and cherry on the nose with intense purple floral as well. The more it opened up, some brown spice (most clove) came out too. Much darker fruit than I anticipated based on the 2008 vintage in general. The same berry/cherry fruit came through on the palate as well with a good mineral core to it. The fine ground spice note came though in the midpalate and carried through on the very long finish. Really quite delicious, but plenty of stuffing to go awhile longer.

Opened and decanted 3 hours before serving. Very aromatic right from the start. Dark cherry and currant with lovely cedar notes and lead pencil as well. Classic Pauillac. Fruit forward on the palate with good density. A very long, almost seamless finish. In a lovely spot now (at least with the decant), but no rush. Plenty of life left ahead of it.

Opened, decanted and tried over an eight hour time period. Started really showing well around six hours and at eight was really great. Red currant and plum notes with a large dose of lead pencil. Nice minerality all throughout and a great burst of acidity on the finish. Refreshing and energetic. Fine tannins. Pretty delicious overall.

Opened, not decanted and drank over 2.5hrs. A wonderful mix of red berry fruit and finely ground brown spices on both the nose and palate. Great freshness and acidity all throughout. Still has structure and tannins to allow for further aging, but in a nice window currently. Very tasty.

Opened, not decanted and drank over 2.5hrs. Very reserved at first; only showing faint glimpses of black fruit. After 45 minutes or so it began to open up some, but overall stayed quite compacted all evening. Very dark berry fruit with some faint Asian spice hints. Firm palate. I'll try to let the rest age in the cellar a few more years; perhaps a decade for the Musigny itself.

At the winery from a bottle that was decanted 1 hour prior to tasting. 55% Cabernet, 30% Merlot, 15% Petite Verdot. Most plush and giving of all the wines tried today. It does have some grip to the backend, but not overly tannic. Red and black cherry, blackberry with some dark chocolate hints and a bit of new leather. Very long, balanced finish.

At the estate from a bottle that had been decanted 5 hours prior. 98% Cabernet, 1% Merlot, 1% Petite Verdot. Less giving aromatically than the King's Row, but still showed wonderful ripe red and black berry fruit and some subtle spice. Well structured and showing a firm mineral backbone. Long, powerful finish with vibrant acidity. A very delicious wine and built for the cellar.

At the estate from a bottle that had been decanted 5 hours prior to tasting. 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 6% Petite Verdot. Aromas of ripe dark red and black berry fruit came from the glass along with graphite, damp earth and some subtle wood spice. Very concentrated on the palate with a rich, plush texture. Fine tannin with a long, seamless finish.

Opened, but not decanted roughly an hour before serving. "Wow" right from the start. An incredibly seductive mix of crushed red raspberry, black cherry and tremendous brown baking spices. The same berry/cherry fruit comes through on the well textured palate which kept gaining in weight as the night went on. Great acidity with a very long finish. A real treat tonight. While no doubt it will continue to hold, I don't see it getting much better than it is now.

From bottle at the winery with the owner, Manuel. This was bottled 22 days prior. Dark red/black berry and currant on the nose. Deep floral and earth/rock notes too. Extremely dense and powerful, but not at all heavy. Full bodied with great textures and a very long, gripping finish. Superfine tannins. The most striking thing to me is how fresh and energetic the wine stays while showing all that ripe fruit. Fantastic!

From bottle at the estate with the owner, Manuel. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the older vines of the estate. This showed a lot of kinship to the Encosta, but with a lot more intensity and depth. Dark crushed berries with fantastic minerality. Well structured palate with great acidity all throughout. Very long finish. Overall great wine and one to put in the cellar for awhile.

From bottle at the winery with the owner, Manuel. This was bottled 22 days prior. Fantastic ripeness and freshness of fruit. Black raspberry and currant was bursting from the glass as it was being poured. Great mouth filling texture and ripe fruit, but while staying in balance with great acidity and minerality. A very long finish.

At the estate with the owner, Manuel. Deep, rich dark berry on the nose and palate. Cigar ash with notes of crushed rock too. Forward, but quite balanced on the palate. Great texture and length where the minerality reappears. A delicious wine. 2% Petite Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon.

It's been a little while since I've tried this one and this bottle has not lost any of the freshness of vibrancy I remember so well from early on. Juicy lemon and lime with a touch of custard coming through. Lots of wet stone coming through. Great energy in the palate with a long finish. Unfortunately my last bottle of the 07.

Popped, poured and drank over an hour or so. So much power here. Aromatics were a mix of red and blue berry fruit with darker floral and some firm earth. Palate was a bit tight and showing its mineral structure, but still gave up some pretty fruit flavors. Very densely packed wine and in need of a decant or more time in the cellar.

From bottle at the estate. This wine is made in 100% concrete egg with the last 3 weeks in neutral oak. Vibrant citrus right from the start with the focus being pink grapefruit and some lemon curd. Fishes out on the palate nicely while staying quite zippy. Lovely texture and length.

New Year's Eve 2014 (My house): Opened and decanted about 90 minutes before serving. After the stellar performance of the 01 Amoureuses last weekend, I decided it was time to check back in on this one. Sappy dark red/ black raspberry on the nose and palate with deep, intense floral (violets). Densely packed fruit and floral on the palate with only faint hints of spice coming through. A long powerful finish. Clearly lots in reserve with a long life ahead. If served blind, I would have guessed from a much younger and riper vintage.
