Nice wine. Drinkable as soon as it was opened. I'd drink it again, but I am unsure it's worth the price.

Vinturi aerated and decanted for 60 min. Dark red/purple. Wet earth, sweet berries with some savory notes and heat on the nose. Medium-full bodied, with a spicy mouthfeel, no noticeable heat. Tannins restrained. Layers of cassis, cherry and plum with savory notes peeking through. Long fruit and spice finish. A nice wine that is in a good drinking window now with backbone to improve further. So much better than the recent disappointing 2011 Beaucastel but at this point not yet as good as the stellar 09 Mas de Boislauzon Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée du Quet.

I’m wondering based on some of the notes here from good tasters whether this was an off bottle. PnP, non blind, this showed roasted and pruney. Everything about the hot vintage on full display and feels like it’s about to fall apart. I couldn’t finish a glass.

4/7/21, 12:15 PM - FWIW, I've had 3 bottles in a temperature controlled cellar for a while now and coincidentally just opened the first a few a few days ago. It exceeded my already high expectations. On that basis you do seem to have an off bottle, oxidized?, or that perhaps got cooked at some point in its life. Not being able to finish a glass is pretty damning.

Decanted for about 2 hours. Very dark purple purple with a honeycomb sweetness and chocolate nose. No noticeable heat even with the 17.5% alcohol. Very smooth with nice black berry fruits and hints of truffle and rosemary on the palate. A long peppery finish completes this fantastic wine which totally blew away a 2009 Ch Beaucastle CdP tasted alongside.
