Red
2013 Giacomo Conterno Barbera d'Alba Vigna Francia

Deep color indeed, rich, full body, tannic grip, prominent fruit, black cherry/black raspberry, some oak, chunks of sediment on the cork and the bottom of the bottle, very impressive Barbera on its own, or with food (sausage and meatballs and Sullivan Street bread).

1/22/24, 11:32 AM - I don't have experience in how this wine develops over a longer time period, but I think to enjoy the fruit and the sense of maturity, it's tasting great now. I have another bottle of the 2013 that I'll try in the next year.

Red
2013 Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Santa Cruz Mountains

Mature, rounded, elegant bordeaux blend, sourced from Ridge Monte Bello vineyard. 75% cab, 20% merlot, the rest petit verdot & cab franc, 13.8% alc. Length, finesse, elegance, nothing overdone or out of proportion. Perfect match with home-cooked creekstone fillet mignon and spinach ravioli.
Have been buying and cellaring 2 btls of the Monte Bellos from the winery for more than a dozen years (haven't tried one yet), but the Ridge cabernet sauvignon estate bottlings give a great indication of the quality and style.

2/22/21, 8:48 AM - Started collecting Ridge Monte Bello with 2 bottles of the 2007 from the winery, same order annually through present.

Red
2017 Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée Red Rhone Blend

Crushable fruit-driven Chateauneuf-du-Pape, with light tannins, that is drinking well and highly enjoyable now. 80% grenache, 6% syrah, 4% mourvedre & 10% mixed other varietals, dark color, but neither over-extracted on the palate or high alcohol. Did not decant. Great to taste in its youthful period.

2/20/21, 4:08 PM - 2017, but am sure the 2018 will be worth seeking out (as are the 2015 and 2016)

Red
2015 Jean Foillard Morgon Côte du Py Gamay

Brilliant, translucent, gem-like, magenta in the glass, with a slight tint of amber near the rim. Fully present and alive, with tart, ripe fruit, and a certain electricity. Profoundly burgundian. Great value, and great with food. 92/93.

8/10/20, 1:19 PM - I had it with boneless chicken thighs in a tomato / garlic sauce, and it worked great. Would also work well with pates, duck rillettes, roasted or rotisserie chicken, or a simple grilled leaner-cut steak, such as hanger steak. But most notably, it is one red wine that is an ideal match with a lot of cheeses, including soft cows-milk cheese (Camembert, brie, black truffle brie), Comte, aged Gouda.
