Call it an off-bottle if you must, but in its fourth day not much more than musky strawberries and high acidity. Wait, and now some inky leather and charred pepper. Starting to suggest sherry-like sandalwood. Hmm…fifth day would have been the charm? Out of patience, so won’t know. With fifteen more years, maybe, this particular bottle might have become the kind of “haunted marquis,” gothic wine that mature Rioja drinkers like. (No oak whatsoever, by the way.) Imagining such, I’ll enjoy this last glass the most.

No, no, no: getting meatier, inkier, gamey-er. Gamey darker fruits now. Okay, NOW we’ve got a nice wine here! Redemption. Beauty. Truth.

Finally, then: lean, sinewy, gamey, delightfully “sherried” savory dark fruit, with a body all Rioja. This is wonderful stuff. Time to break out midnight olives and crackers and ham slices. Mwah!

Cellar for a few decades if you’re into necro.

5/31/21, 5:50 AM - "Ready to drink" if you're going to have a tart snort of it off the pop on day one and then get back to it four days later. Maybe I'd decant it until it got closer to where it ended up for me. Before then, really, this wasn't very good. (And then it was.)

If you're now drinking and enjoying 70's and 60's Rioja, you could probably have put the bottle I had away for 30 more years to have given yourself similar pleasures this midcentury. Other notes here don't seem to mention the acidity and the tartness that were my experience of this wine for its first 3-4 days, however. Don't know anything about your bottles or your palate. Yours could well be ready for you. Dunno.

Ugh, petrol, green, earth, herbaceous, unripe, wet, slightly jubey cherry under this. It's acidic and bitter on the palate with green tannic grip that dries the gums and it finishes with a little ripe cherry. Nah.

My second of this producer's offerings, and another outstanding bottle. I think I'm just helpless against this intensity of juicy, tangy acidity and these rich apricot and browned orchard fruit flavors with this viscosity and sweetness. And how clean this is, too. Absolutely fabulous dessert wine.

Pale green in the glass. Pretty restrained on the nose with citrus notes and minerality being the only notes I can recognize. High acidity, medium alcohol. Bit bitter on the finish.
