Don't be put off by the label! Check this out:

From 2014
Still very tannic from the bottle, and finishes with a powerful cassis finish. Good structure and body. I would lay this down for a couple more years

From 2018
Ripe red fruit, fresh leather, licorice and baking spice (clove?) in the nose. Medium body, but “dense” flavor a of cassis syrup, black licorice, damp cellar, mulch and fresh tobacco. Long finish of cassis and leather. Wow.

From 2019
This is fantastic after a few years of age. Aroma of barnyard, olive brine and dark fruit. Flavor of fresh cigar tobacco. Medium body, smooth and elegant. Finishes with fresh tobacco, brown sugar and dark cherry candy. Wonderful.

Wow people really overrate this one. Weak and thin. Nothing bad about it, but nothing good either. Finished bottle by cooking with it.

P&P as a test bottle for a few just purchased. I was initially excited about finding a Costco hidden gem, but there's not much here to write home about. Decent color in glass, faint whiff of typical Bordeaux and weak red fruit on the pour. Through 3 hours of glass-time, there was no evolution as it came across thin and never had any character. Retested on 2nd day with no improvement. While this is very early for proper assessment, I feel that the source dumped some juice on Costco and doubt it will be anything special. I returned the purchase (love Costco''s return policy).

2/26/17, 11:39 AM - Wow, I do it with any problem... show receipt and they happily take half drank bottles. It's a great way to try something new... if it's good, I'll buy a bunch more... if not, I get my money back. It's also a great way to secure their discounted/quick selling small lots of high end wine that roll through once in while. Buy a case and try one to see of it's good. If not, whole purchase goes back. You do need to be careful, as their transit/storage isn't always the best. I've seen some wines that were clearly overheated.

I've had a few of Cam's "pedigree" 2013 Lots now after letting them settle and it seems that most of these "infants" are following a similar trend... open and a bit messy immediately after P&P... then they pull back into themselves. Lot 599 runs the same, but on steroids. It poured as pitch black/deep purple opaque ink and came out to play, with some blueberry, dark cherry, & boysenberry (black licorice?) that lingered from mid palate through medium finish. Re-corked and tried 2nd & into 3rd night... totally shut down & tight as a drum with big tannins that obliterated the initial fruit I experienced. Wow, this thing is a massive monolithic monster right now! It reminds me of Lot 545 last year that was tight/closed at p&p (which is now friendly & delicious) and could even pass as a young Howell Mtn. Time will tell if & how the tannins integrate. The way I see it, sitting on wine waiting to release at the right time is not Cam's business model and I believe that with most of his "high end" stock, we're given the unique opportunity to buy futures (without barrel scores). As such, I'm giving it 89 now and believe there's big potential for this be 93+, putting it as one of Cam's best offerings... but, how long will it take?

11/15/15, 6:23 PM - Right there with you... Cam can't sit on these... puts them out well before most would even think of... easily 1 or two hold for most. I'm liking 599 & 597 the most so far... 598 seemed a little over done. Just opened 600 tonight... much more approachable so far.

Meh... was looking for a lot more in this bottle, considering it's proximity to Petrus. Maybe I over decanted (2 hours) but, there wasn't much of anything "exciting" about this.
  • Nerve4Verve commented:

12/15/14, 4:53 PM - Thanks Purple Tooth... I'm just starting my "journey" of Bordeaux and having fun testing/stretching my palate. I agree on 2010... hard to screw up. I thought 2 hours would be enough to kick-start this to life but, there was no evolution in the glass either and I wrote off the bottle. Maybe I didn't give this enough decant to start with... hmm could try another. Any ideas without breaking the bank on a Petrus? ;-)
